Chanced upon Sushi Express @ Tampines 1 and I was fairly satisfied with the overall dining experience. Each table is allowed a dining duration of 40 mins, a concept quite common in Japan and hence we were quickly led to our seats despite it being full house (lunch hour). Each plate costs $1.50 btw! At first glance there seems to be a wide array of food choices though the choices are actually limited. The sushi is generally satisfactory, somewhat like a better version of the supermarket sushi, though at a much affordable pricetag! Sushi Express offers complimentary green tea, in fact it is self-served (and free-flow), and this greatly enhances the low price factor!Besides sushi, Sushi Express also offers, however limited, an array of desserts namely their mochi, pudding, cheesecake and a few others. The sashimi and their other delicacies are fairly tasteful, though its quality has highly superseded its price. So no complaints, given its great price! Their olysters are definitely a must-try! Albeit a longer wait for certain food items, have patience guys!Generally a satisfactory meal, and the total bill came up to about 30 bucks, inclu service charges and GST, pleasantly surprised yet delighted. Today is the first day of Sushi Express opening at Tampines One.No chawanmushi only miso soup available. They serve hygienic tea bags and wasabi sachets.Limited to only 50 minutes of feasting the sushi. It's like finding oneself fighting for food since everyone are surrounded with a shared conveyor belt. The prices are very reasonable and affordable to students. All the items are priced at only S$1.00 from today until Friday. The normal price is S$1.50 per plate. We have never visited any outlet of Sushi Express before and since we happened to be at Cold Storage for our grocery shopping, my husband and I decided to try this outlet since there were still seats available. We are small eaters. In total we paid S$13.00++ for thirteen plates of sushi.Hamaguri Clam Nigiri SushiThe sushi was resh and succulent.Kasunoko (Yellow Herring Roe)They were crunchy and salty with lots yellow roe chunks.Mock AbaloneThough its not the genuine abalone, the taste is similar to fresh abalone. When consumed raw, the aromas of the sea are enjoyed along with a very crunchy flavour.Surf ClamThe surf clam was crunchy and fresh.Tako - OctopusLightly marinated tentacle. The meat was tough unlike fresh ones which are crunchy.Royal Size ScallopThe giant scallop was indeed value for money. I could taste the freshness of the seafood flavour.Which is the highlight of this sushi meal.We were far away from the kitchen area therefore we did not get the first dibs of some other varieties of sushi.By the time we left the place, there were about 30 to 40 people outside the restaurant.Drop by to Sushi Express if you like their sushi. The promotion for S$1.00 each plate is valid until this coming Friday. continue reading
