Thai food for Dinner
Smile 2013-05-14

First time trying Thai Food for dinner. I was thinking of using it to guage whether I can adapt to the food in Thailand should I decided to tour Thailand.

Thai Express Menu cover page, an elephant as their symbol! ;)

Sa-nook Thai Honey Chicken. The chicken was well glazed with honey sauced.

Sa-nook Red Tom Yam Fish Soup. The tom yam soup was good. However, the fish slices were too little. sad

Both set meals come with Green curry chicken balls and Coconut milk sago with Thai Red Attap Seed. The green curry chicken balls was yummy, it was mashed into something like potata and deep fried into a ball. I like their dessert best. One of the best as compared to all the desserts that I have eaten. The coconut milk wasnt overwhelming. Yums!

Will try more of their dishes. smile

One of the better outlets
Smile 2013-04-17

I'm a big fan of ThaiExpress but I realise that there is a difference in standards when you compare outlets in terms of service and food. They should really do something about this inconsistency...

Anyway, I love the CityLink outlet because it's usually quite quiet and cosy. The staff are pretty attentive (although they are a tad bit slow in refilling water) and the food is a lot better compared to the other outlets at Plaza Sing and Marina Square.

We ordered the prawn cakes for our appetiser. Piping hot and super tasty, these were fantastic and went really well with the accompanying chilli dip.

I had pad thai for a change and requested for chicken pad thai instead. Not too oily - just right!

Lastly, the same ol' dessert that's always a hit and miss - the mango sticky rice. I think they make a pretty decent one at ThaiExpress, but at some outlets... you get the drift. This time, it was pretty all right. I asked for extra coconut sauce (they tend to be a bit stingy about it) and they were quite generous with it. Cute presentation - reminded me of an Angry Bird haha.

prawn paste fried rice with seafood.

you know the thing i love about thai express is that it's fast food but served in such elegant porcelain it hardly feels like a grab and go place but more of a casual laidback dining area.

now this i expected to be sorely pungent.

and i was looking for something strong on flavour to kickstart my nose again after the madness of flu.

And this was it!

seafood was fresh with the crystal prawns and the rice was full on flavour.

i ate my plate clean. smile

Thai express is a good choice if you're looking for affordable thai food.

We had to wait quite awhile for seats during the peak hours of dinner time but if you're a small group, waiting time should be less than 20mins. We were served quite promptly by the staff as soon as we sat down but they were relatively slow with the refilling of plain water though, probably because there's alot of customers.

Had rice with black pepper chicken and thai stir fried seafood kway teow with my friend. The black pepper chicken I had was disappointing as the chicken had too much pepper to the extent I was choking on it. The portion of the seafood kway teow was quite little but it was nice, just the right taste.

   seafood kway teow

   black pepper chicken

Overall, my suggestion is to choose a dish with the recommended sign.

This is a dish of beef meat with rice! Not only that there's onion to enhance the taste with the meaty, nuts topped on top for crunchy taste, cucumbers by the side to refresh overall food! And not forgetting the yummy sauce they provide by the plate together with a piece of small lime! (:
It is reasonably affordable for a restaurant eatery with good looking appearance plus yummy food!

Cheap and fast

Food's not super authentic or fantastic but at least it's cheap and fast.

We had:

1) Kanom Pang Na Kung ($6.90) minced prawn paste on crispy toast served with sweet Thai chili sauce. I liked this. The prawn mince was flavourful and possessed a chunky and somewhat chewy texture, which balanced out the crisp of the base toast

2) Kung Kamkram Phat Mee Phuket ($14.90) Phuket-style Thai bee hoon with Thai river prawn, available only on the promotional menu, super letdown. The noodles were limpid and the prawns were mushy and overcooked

3) Poo Phat Pong Kari ($10.90) of curried soft shell crab with eggs fared better. The gravy was luxuriously creamy, eggy and richly spicy.

thai honey chicken rice
Smile 2012-07-10

I ordered the thai honey chicken rice from thai express. The honey chicken is indeed so delicious. The chicken is slightly fried on the outside. Inside the meat is so tender and juicy. the sauce they used to marinate the chicken is so delicious. It is slightly on the sweet side yet it is not too sweet. It goes absolutely well with the rice. this sweet and sour sauce is pretty unique, have not tasted something like this elsewhere.

Nice thai food
Smile 2012-07-03

We hadn't eaten at a Thai Express for a while. Last week, looking for something to eat whilst at Jurong Point we found a row of restaurants under a glass roof several floor above. It was nice and light and felt like eating outdoors but with aircon!

We had some of the set meal deals which provided 3 courses of food at a bargain price. We had the crispy prawn fried rice set and the green curry set and tom yum fish set which included salad and a dessert. Everything was fresh and fragrant and delicious. The crispy pancake tasted great but wasnt very crispy.

Overall it was tasty, efficient service and very reasonably priced.

This is the Pad Si Ew Neua, Thai stir-fried kway teow with beef.
I find overall is nice because there's still tomato by the side which they tried to make not so oily, but originally it is kind of oily because of the amount of oil they put in to cook..
The appearance looks nice too, therefore overall is average.
The amount of beef is quite alot too, so kind of worth it..

Yummms

My friend’s Bangkok chicken rice portion was so huge, it is like they gave her half a chicken. She gave me a couple of pieces and yet she still cannot finish. The sauce that goes with it taste really good too. Our favourite is the tom yum seafood soup, the seafood they used are really fresh and very generous portion. The soup is very spicy just the way I love it.

as for the spicy fish set comes with a mushroom salad and two small pieces of watermelon . the fish was crispy and topped with spicy chilli was so shiok .

the chicken curry naan come with prata for u to dip in the sauce . the chicken was tender but the gravy was a bit too thick .

the menu have a wide variety of foods and desserts and the price seem reasonable

bangkok chicken is a must order
Smile 2012-03-14

i went to thai express with a couple of friends. It has been quite a long while since I set foot into this thai restaurant. I ordered their Bangkok chicken. It was so delicious. the chicken was so gigantic and there were many pieces as well. their chicken is fried until the skin is very crispy and fragrant, the meat is so tender and juicy. I especially like their chilli dip, it is on the sour side, went to well with the chicken that I had to ask for another serving of the dip. I strongly recommend this Bangkok chicken, you will not regret!

thai style fried rice

Tasted more or less like the normal seafood fried rice,
nothing special. It tastes better If you eat it together with the special sauce they provided.
the tom yum soup very flavourful,
you can taste the pice as the spiciness is slowly buring up your throat.
Haha. Thumbs up for Thai Express

the pineapple rice was not as nice as i expected it to turn out, the rice was very dry and we had to keep adding the tom yum soup to make it easier to eat. however, the seafood found in the rice was very fresh, the squid and prawn were very crunchy, well that compensated for the dryness of the rice i guess. but i think the tom yum soup really go well with the pineapple rice, so if u intend to stop by thai express, find a friend to share these both set meal.

My friend, a regular to most Thai Ex outlets, knew how the service was like which I was partly impressed. She said to me even the waitress here are all the same like the other one I frequently go, serving us casually and treat us like a friend, not as a king customer, which I dont mind and the waitress was kind and playful. Whatever I requested she immediately fetched it out.

The place wasn't full as there were only about 5 tables filled in this weekday night.

The main course, drink and dessert costed about $12. I ordered the thai fried rice, and it comes with a yam like coconut dessert and spring rolls.

The rice portion and how its fried is well done, and I immediately scarved it down. The spring rolls were quite hot as well from the fry. It was a good combination and I was longing for more rice as the chicken bits were already fried together into one rice portion.

The coconut dessert was a plus as it was a more authentic thai style. But then talk about the calories of the coconut, oh boy! tongue Whoever doesnt like coconut must kind of avoid this as it is very, very thick!
