I know this restaurant when I googled 'the best lobster in Singapore', and after I took away the Chinese restaurants, it's this one.  It's not easy to find another restaurant of similar which could prepare grill lobsters as they do, keeping the lobsters still moist and tender, I.e. Not overlooked.  The lobsters they picked are always very meaty. This time I tried its lobster rolls, and it's even better!  Packed with brioche with its sweet taste matched nicely with the lobster meats with mayonnaise, and they chose mainly the meat in the claws which are more tender and juicy. The mix of meat and bread is just right, not excessive meat which would fall from the brioche. Also don't forget to tip the staff for their great service.  They don't charge 10% service fee. continue reading

For the full review, click here:http://www.chubbybotakkoala.com/2015/05/the-market-grill.htmlA Steakhouse with No Reservation Please!! The first time I heard about this, this statement really sticks. Of course, Aston's has been practising this policy, but we are talking about different class of steakhouse altogether here. So intrigues by it, we decided to give it a try after a quick browse of their menu online. The Market Grill ('TMG') is the brainchild of Executive Chef Colin West, whose kitchen stints include Les Amis, Le Saint Julien, Braise and Swiss Grill. The collaboration with Loh Lik Peng's Unlisted Collection Group even proves further that we will be expecting a quality meal. We rocked up about 8PM and we were lucky that we manage to get a seat. The last table at the back, however we did not mind at all. We got to see the pit master working the grill and preparing the food. Starter was Lobster Bisque ($25), Frog Leg ($24) and 1/2 doz Pacific Oyster ($18). The fresh Pacific Oyster was huge, juicy, firm yet slippery. Although there was the vinaigrette dressing, I still prefer mine with a squirt of lemon juice. The Lobster Bisque is not part of the actual menu, instead it was in the Chef's Recommendation Board Menu. Robust, creamy with bitter taste at the end. They put the Gruyère cheese, croutons and butter on the side for you to add based on your preference. Frog Legs are cooked with garlic and butter. It was so much bigger compare to the frog leg that I normally had in my frog porridge, almost to the size of the leg of a mini spring chicken. While the legs are covered with garlic and other herbs, the taste was not overpowering. The meat is springy, succulent and tasty. I would not order this but LD insisted. Good choice dear. For salad, we had Better Than Classic Caesar ($16). A bold declaration but it does delivery in taste. Using mini Romaine, it was quartered and crunchy. Each of the ingredients are well coated in the dressing and bind the croutons and cheese well. We ask them not to include the quail egg, as it was not our thing. The spiced rub chicken breast is average and the salad is just fine without it. Of course dining in The Market Grill, you must try the steak. We had Wagyu Chuck Rib – 600 gram ($72), with sides sautéed field mushroom ($11) and mash potatoes ($8). The chuck rib was quite thick, served on a wooden plank and cut to a few slices. We asked for medium rare, but it turn out to be medium. However, the meat is tender and succulent, especially the cut in the middle. Seasoning on the meat was the humble salt with sweet caramelised onions on top. Yum Yum The mashed potatoes was thick, solid and goes well with the meat. Unfortunately the garlic on the sautéed mushroom was just to overpowering and missing the buttery flavour. We personally feel that sautéed mushroom and garlic just does not goes hand in hand. Butter, salt and pepper are good enough. We decided to skip the desserts as we were stuffed. Service in TMG is excellent. It is casual, friendly and attentive just like atmosphere in TMG. The décor is simple with industrial flair. It is no fuss steakhouse where the food are the stars here. Overall, the food, the service and the atmosphere is just great. I like the bold concept of taking no reservation. It just show the management have the utter confidence in the product. Kudos to them. We'll definitely come back to try the CW burgers. Cheers!! continue reading

photos and more here: http://andmorefood.wordpress.com/2013/06/12/the-market-grill-tanjong-pagar/the food was delicious, the ambience cosy – I only wished the prices were a little less on the high side.let’s start with the obvious. obscure location, check; portlandish aspirations, check; old-school that never happened here, check. and yet, this place is endearing – the tables aren’t too cramped, there’s just the right amount of people for a pleasant hum in the air, and I have a soft spot for great design, even if it has vaunted provenance in a school of thought I don’t belong to.to cut to the short of it – there are far too many reviews about this place – the food was fantastic. we had the lobster (of course we did), and while rather small – the flesh was sweet and succulent, dripping with delicious seafoody brine. but even better than the lobster, was the dreamy cut of bavette at medium-rare - it came pink and juicy and tender and beefy. and with silky caramelized onions, and a petite jug of complexly savoury gravy – this was truly silence-inspiring.we finished with their rum banana pockets. this was the weakest dish – the pastry a little too thick and oily, though at least the bananas were satisfyingly soft.we came (somewhat) for the lobster, but we’ll return for the beef. they have a real charcoal grill and the cooking truly is expert. and the place is gorgeous and intimate, pretensions aside. we had a surly indian waiter – not hipster cool but genuinely unpleasant – which marred the experience somewhat, but the other female waitresses were friendly and pleasan. come here for beef (I have hopes for their other grilled meats), then go elsewhere for dessert. but really,in all, well-deserving of the hype. continue reading

Please see http://thehungrybunnie.blogspot.com for more food reviewsThe New-York-styled bistro composes of industrial chic sensibilities, but it doesn't detract from the fact that the 30-odd seating restaurant is really space-constrained. It reminds me of a very cramped version of Open Door Policy. I call it a one-bump place. One bump is all it takes to hit another diner along the short narrow alleyway of the restaurant. This is not the place for large gatherings. The space limitations is exacerbated by the fact that The Market Grill does not accept reservations. We left early for lunch, crossing our fingers the entire walk over from the office. Fortunately for us, we managed to score seats for the 4 of us. Unfortunately for us, these were the counter seats right in front of the open kitchen. We all got a 2-in-1 deal, a FOC steam facial to go with our meal. You fill your tummy and open your pores at the same time!We had:1) CW Portobello ($22) comprising one of the juiciest hand-formed chuck beef patties ever, is layered with creamed portobello chunks, crisp bacon, and refreshingly crisp lettuce. The toasted sesame seed buns serve as fluffy bookends. This was just mindblowingly delicious. BEST portobello burger ever. 2) CW Blue Cheese ($22). Here, the robust burger utilises pungent blue cheese, salty bacon and a burnt onion marmalade to accentuate the flavour of the beef, while a walnut raisin bun lends a rich nutty sweetness. For blue cheese aficionados, this was a perfect balance of savoury and sweet. This was just dripping with awesome juices. You'll be licking your fingers clean off3) Lamb Rack ($39), dry-rubbed with an American-styled secret-recipe spice mix for maximum flavour, was succulent, tender and fresh, with nary a gamey scent or taste. And grilled to a smoky perfection. All while retaining incredible moisture. Mushy grilled bell peppers, potato mash, and drizzling of lamb jus completed this commendable creation continue reading

Market Grill is a little restaurant tucked away in a corner along Telok Ayer street. The place is really really SMALL and there are very limited seats (and they don't do reservation) so go early if you can. I tried their beef burger and it is very normal. Seriously, there is nothing memorable about it. I didn't even think it was all that good. The patty was quite thin and you have more mushroom and bacon more than anything else. I prefer the BK burger over this as it doesn't cost as much and taste better. continue reading
