large portion dry wanton mee
Smile 2012-06-13

i went to old pontian at bukit panjang shopping mall for dinner. This outlet, unlike the lot one’s outlet, is way much quieter. I went during the dinner time and there were plenty of seats available. I ordered their wanton noodles in dry form and large portion. The portion is indeed a lot. The serving of the noodles is increased for the large one as compared to the small portion. The amount of wanton is similar, two soup wantons and two fried ones. For the wantons, it is pretty small, so you cannot really taste the meat, but it was indeed delicious.

dry wanton noodles
Smile 2012-04-26

I had dinner at bukit panjang plaza the other day. The food selection was pretty good. But I settled for something more pocket friendly – old pontian. I ordered their dry wanton noodles. They had two sizes, large or small. I opted for the small one cos my appetite was not too big that day. But on normal occasion, I think the large size is just right cos the portion of the small one was pretty miserable. In the dish, there were two kinds of wanton, two fried ones and two soup ones. The soup ones tasted really nice, probably because the soup was really tasty. I like the sauce that they added to the noodles, it is some black sauce, sweetish saltish. The fried wanton was very crunchy, a contrast to the soup wanton. the noodles was very crunchy too, not overcooked! the char siew was rather thinly sliced but they gave quite alot.

a filling bowl of ipoh hor fun
Smile 2012-04-19

This old pontian outlet is not as crowded as the other branches I been to. I went there with my sister and we both ordered their ipoh hor fun. Their ipoh hor fun only got one size unlike their wanton noodles where you can choose either small or large. Their ipoh hor fun is really good, their gravy is the thick dark kind. It is very tasty. Their hor fun is so smooth and chewy. It is good perfectly and went well with the gravy. They are very generous with their ingredients, a lot of shredded chicken and a lot of vegetables. The chicken add flavour to the hor fun, making it tastier and more wholesome. As a whole it was rather filling!

Pontian Popiah
Smile 2011-06-01

I was looking for some snacks as I passed by Bukit Panjang while going home. Saw Pontian cafe and decided to order their popiah as I tried the one at choa chu kang and was not bad.

The quality was pretty much the same. The skin was not soggy and the fillings were generous. It is quite light in taste and feels healthy with the amount of vegetables.

Nice noodles in a cramped up store.
Smile 2010-11-14

Have been eating at this store frequently, and my only complain is the limited seating available. The store is so small and it is really a challenge walking to the inner most table.

Back to the food.

Wanton noodle - The texture of noodles is "Q", and well cooked. Both fried and boiled dumplings are provided so you get to try both. Char siew is tender and has a tinge of sweetness. Gravy is generous. Chilli can be rather spicy.

Popiah - A little dissappointed as I don't really find it nice. It is not too wet, but does not taste so outstanding to call for a recommendation.

Ipoh horfun - Very standard fare.

Just go for the wanton noodles.
