Salmon

It been a few years back since I tried so decided to step in again...

Was with my few friends for dinner, we waited around half an hour for our food to arrive...The good thing is that the food always arrive all together at the same time!!

Must order, Claypot Dried Chilli Frog Leg!! It was well executed!! The frog meat was well marinated and well coated with immense flavors of spiciness and sweetness...So delectable...The reason for ordering this is to add the sauce from
Claypot Dried Chilli Frog Leg and the frog leg into this!! It will transform into the best plain porridge ever...

To tag along the porridge, ordered the raw salmon & Claypot Liver...

Raw Salmon kinda of downgrading...In the earlier years, the freshness n appetizing touch on this dish is undeniable! Thinly sliced raw fish coupled with fried onions n sliced chilli n ginger with a drizzle of sesame n soy but sadly now is not as freshness even there's bones in it...careful when you have it...

Claypot Liver was delicious...It was tender and fragrant having absorbed the sauce...Adding the sauce to the Plain Porridge made it even more aromatic!!!

Shiokolicious!!!mad

Frog Porridge
Just OK 2013-04-09

Recommended by my friend who works in Chinatown, this Frog Porridge is along the main road so it's quite easy to spot. Coming out from the MRT at Chinatown, turn right and walk straight and you'll come across this eatery.

We ordered one Claypot Frog to share. It look a while for the food to come, but it come steaming hot! Be sure to order drinks while waiting or consider ordering a side-dish or two from other vendors.

The sauce looks dark in the picture but it's not overly salty. The pieces could have been more tender though, but it could be because the wait was long or because we were hungry, the dish was finished rather quickly!

Might want to go there early as the seats are taken up quickly.

Porridge
Smile 2013-04-06

This food centre surely has many popular local foods here. However I should say Tiong Shian Porridge stall has one of the longest waiting queues during meals' hour. First time buying their porridge and it took me around fifteen minutes before my turn is up. First mouthful of it really surprise me. The porridge texture is very smooth and not too watery. Lots of sliced pork meat are added in it which are tender and juicy. The fried spring onions also added that extra fragrant to it too.

The crowds at the stall tells that food quality should be top notch but i dun seem quite convinced with my latest visit there. The place has expanded to include the unit at the other end of the shop house as well (the ci car section) and i was seated there. Proceeded to the front counter to place my order, mixed porridge, small raw fish and a braised toufu. Waited for a good 15 minutes before my food was served. After the 1st few mouths, it just came across to me the standard is no longer as before. The raw fish was pathetic in quantity and lack the usual strong flavoring mix. The square braised toufu thoug looks tempting in presentation but lacks punch is the taste department, unable to distinguish it from any equivalent which i can buy at maybe just 3/4 of the price. The only part of this porridge i still like is the fried intestine that was added. This visit only makes me miss the redhill porridge even more

where long queue indeed is for good food.

Porridge in Town

As most of the places have closed for the day, decides to come here to eat.
Claypot Frog porridge( small $8.00 ) : Served in a small claypot. A number of pieces of frog inside and well seasoned.
Raw Fish ( Small $4.20 ) : Thinly sliced and fresh. With a bit of lime juice, it tastes great with the ginger slices.
Fried Hoon Chang ( $6.00 ) : Very very crispy and hard. Tastes more like the crispy pig skin, but actually is pig's spare parts.

Shiok Claypot Frog Leg and Porridge!
Smile 2013-01-28

Tiong Shian Porridge has been around for a long time. It is located at a coffee shop which is just a stone throw away from Chinatown MRT Station, along New Bridge Road.

Tiong Shian Porridge specialises in serving porridge and also claypot frog leg porridge.

Went there on two different occasions. During the first occasion, we arrived during dinner time and this place was filled to the brim! We ordered and waited for close to half an hour before the food arrived.

The Plain Porridge is so cheap! Just $0.60 for such a big bowl of porridge! Cheap and good!

I had already mixed up the Raw Fish with the sauce, hence this unsightly picture. This picture does not do this dish any justice. Looks quite appetising right? Well....it was awesome! The fish was very fresh with no fishy smell. Saw that most tables ordered this item too. For $3.70 this dish is very certainty worth it. A must try dish!

The Dried Chilli Frog Leg was delicious. Right amount of spiciness and the frog leg was well cooked. It was tender and fragrant having absorbed the sauce. Adding the sauce to the Plain Porridge made it even more aromatic! Shiokolicious!

I have never tried claypot Dried Chilli Fish Head before. I was quite surprised that the chilli fish head was so delicious. Well, maybe part of the reason was because I quite like fish head (to me anything with bones, tend to be nicer; more tender) . Moreover, the sauce was so aromatic, similar to the sauce from the Dried Chilli Frog Leg.

On the second occasion, I also patronised the place for dinner. This time I went slightly earlier at 6pm. The place was similar packed! Hence, yet again, we waited half an hour.

Any guess what this is?

Well, it is not plain porridge.

It is Century Egg Porridge! There seems to be a lack of flavour in the porridge. Porridge is quite smooth. Moreover, the century egg was of good quality.

This time we ordered the Frog with Ginger Onion. The sauce this time was sweet and salty, not spicy with a distinct ginger fragrant. Shiok, but I still prefer the Dried Chilli Frog Leg.

Mix the sauce from the Frog with Ginger Onion with the plain porridge. And throw in some of the frog legs will make this plain porridge so delicious that you wonder why it cost 60 cents.

Overall, Tiong Shian Porridge is certainty a place to come for its porridge, claypot frog leg and raw fish! If the place is packed, there are seats upstairs. Not a bad place except that it can get really warm. Be prepared to sweat it out. But for the food, it is well worth it! Can't really compare to the one at Geyland Lorong 9 as I have forgotten the taste (the last time I was there was 8 years ago). Many gems in Chinatown to explore. Lots of good food nearby. I will certainly be back if I have the time.

Best porride ever
Smile 2012-12-18

Raw fish with no fishy taste

   Smell nice porride

   Clay pot frog

Was craving for porridge after return home from holiday for 1 week as we arrive late at night. Brought by a friend to tiong shian porridge centre with our western friend from Australia. We really enjoyed having the porridge here as it just smell nice and fast to get our food. We have tried the fish porridge, pork porridge but what I like most was the clay pot frog with add on of plain porridge costing 60cent more that the cook together clay pot frog porridge and the raw fish that the store was famous for and well, it really taste nice as the meat was soft and tender compared to other clay pot or home cook frog porridge. I would say it all mixed well with the sauce, ingredient and just nice to taste the sauce on it own and together stir in the plain porridge. Well, I wish there's we're more frog leg inside as I craving for it even fill the last drip and the western friend was also asking n when we would be coming to eat again and not miss him out as he enjoyed the porridge that much. The service is also quite nice as the stall personnel saw that there are a few people eating on our table that we only ordered the clay pot frog and 1 plain porridge at first, that they actually give us the exact number of small bowl according to E number if people on the table. This could be the reason that they think we can share and try the porridge and the clay pot frog and the raw fish together and won't drop on the table. After trying, we ordered more porridge and it quite fast to get it again. The raw fish was fresh and tasty as it was smooth and soft with no fishy taste like others and taste sour which mixed well with the lime. Nice to taste it raw individually and as we'll as with the porridge and the clay pot frog. The price for all this is also affordable and worth especially when you crave for something nice and fulling at night .overall, the place is clean in the coffee shop environment although there always people selling packet of tissue to customer who are eating their meal.

Braised tofu
Just OK 2012-07-26

A must order right here if you come to have porridge got to be the braised tofu. The tofu is nicely braised using the braised sauce then topped with dried shallots and spring onions before served. The texture of the tofu is nicely soft and smooth. It goes so well with any type of porridge. The taste can be further enhanced by dipping in the special chilli provided but i would very much like to go without it.

Craypot frog leg
Smile 2012-07-14

This pot of fragrant frog legs is one of my main reason why I have patrolling this stall for more than two years already. The frog meat is very tender and juicy, and with the different types of seasoning added to it, make the taste really good and goes well with plain rice and porridge as well. The price is also consider quite reasonable as well and you may want to order other side dishes to go along with this delicious dish as well... yummy!

delicious sliced raw fish
Smile 2012-05-04

My girlfriend was craving for porridge so we specially drove to new bridge road to order their delicious frog leg porridge. We also ordered their raw fish slices as well. the porridge is very thick and solid. The frog leg gravy is very tasty, it goes absolutely well with the porridge. The frog leg is very chewy. The gravy infused into the frog leg and making the meat very delicious and tasty. The raw sliced fish is really good, the meat is very fresh and it simply melts in your mouth. It is seasoned perfectly, with a little spice from the chilli slice. It is one of the best sliced fish I have tasted.

Raw fish with plain porridge
Smile 2012-05-03

This porridge stall at Chinatown is really quite unique as raw fish instead of cooked fish is served with their plain porridge. The raw fish are thick in texture and are reallly fresh with no fish sting sell in it. The porridge is thick in texture and is topped with deep fried chopped onions and spring onions to add in that slight fragrant in it. The combination of this two items are really special as you would not feel that you are eating the raw fish and at the same time too heavenly enjoying the porridge. Great job by the stall owner and really look forward to more surprising dishes from him soon.

I like the sauce of the frog and i will use it to scoop to the porridge! The sauce is with black sauce and there's vegetable inside to mix the taste together. From the claypot, you can see it is using traditional style to cook them, therefore it taste nicer than normal kind.

They are also good, willing to give us more fried garlic when requested.

The chicken feet is also nice, chewy and delicious with the sauce! And all of these worth its price!

porridge!
Smile 2011-12-02

I love the first bite of their raw fish, it was fresh, tastes was good, it tossed with spring onion, fried onion and chilli were perfectly accomplished. Frog leg swam in a pool of dark sauce, the meat was springy, sauce tasted right, one would just forget about the look of a live frog and kept sink their teeth into such lovely meat. I like their plain porridge though, right consistency and price is only S$0.6.
