For more reviews, visit www.umakemehungry.comSpotted something familar while I'm checking out the stalls in Food Republic of Shaw centre and that is Toa Payoh Lorong 7 Teochew Fishball Noodles! Opted for the non spicy version of fishball noodle dry version with Mee Pok. Noodles was coated with generous amount of tomato ketchup which is a good reminisce of a traditional bowl of fishball noodles. At an obvious glance the fishball was generally bigger than the usual commercial packed sizes. Besides the ketchup noodles, what I like about their food was its homemade fishballs which were QQ, bouncy and a good texture.Though it may be oily but I still kind of like the good old taste! continue reading

I'm not a fishball noodle type of person, but was suddenly craving for it. I got myself the dry version and chose mee pok for the noodle. Because I didn't want chilli, they asked if I wanted ketchup instead so I said ok. The noodles were still al dente with a nice bite to it, and the ketchup gave the noodles a slight sweetness which I quite liked. There were also some pieces of lard which remained rather crispy even after being coated with ketchup. It was quite nice...didn't taste oily too. There were 5 huge fishballs given. Pretty yummy and very bouncy continue reading

This was the most attractive when I was browsing through all the Food Republic stalls to choose my lunch. This comes in two packaging, one for the noodles and one for the fishball soup. The noodles were coated with thick tomato sauce (because I opted for it instead of the chilli sauce), and was a little dry and sticky, I wished it could be slightly more moist. The fishballs were very yummy though! It was super springy and I was looking forward to eating the rest after trying one out. A set like this costs $5.One thing I didn't like about their packaging takeaway is that they contained the piping hot fishball soup in a plastic container. I think that's not too healthy and I refrained from drinking the soup.I think the best combination to order at this stall would be the dry meekia with tomato and a bit of chilli sauce, and don't order takeaway.  continue reading

Was lucky to get to try this stall early in the morning due to the fire drill at my office. Was served immediately, things were ready by then (it was 10am). Ordered the mee pok set, with 10% discount for safra members, that makes it $5.58. The meepok was surprisingly good, very well scalded and blended very well with the generous pork lard and green onions, my only gripe is that it was a tad too oily, fortunately it wasnt overly spicy. The ingredients you will be given, 3 fish ball, 3 fish cake and 2 fish dumpling. The fishball's a winner, very soft on the inside and still generally springy on hte bite, definitely home-made i feel. Its not exceptionally big but the size made up for it. The fish dumpling and fishcake were pretty normal but the fish cake slices maybe due to only 3 given were slightly thicker. Overall thumbs up except for the price. continue reading
