Tong Ji Mian Shi is one of stalls that scores among the diners. With lots of articles on the media where reviews were made over the years pasted below its sign board, emphasizing its Lotus Lor Mee which is one of its kind. (So far, I have not seen any places with such concoction) .Beside Lor Mee, they have other selections like Laksa and Fish Ball Soup / Noodle.Flat yellow noodles were served with fish cake, Ngor Hiang, braised lean meat, egg, dumplings and crispy bits. And its hard to go without a spoonful of black vinegar in a bowl of Lor Mee. Though gravy was rather blend without too much of braised taste, right amount of starch used were seen, giving a right texture and thickness. Thinly sliced lotus included which marks a difference to a traditional bowl of Lor Mee. Crunchy and was fried to golden brown perfection, somehow reminding me of Chinese New year Snack. With so much of rave, I'm expecting more from that bowl. Overall, I still prefer the traditional ones with pork belly and better flavour in terms of its braised sauce. For more reviews, visit www.umakemehungry.com continue reading

I was there for lunch. This stall seems to be a popular choice as a queue of few people was spotted right there. I decided to have Lor Mee for $3. Other selection like laksa, fishball minced meat noodle are available too. The portion was quite substantial to fill up a hungry tummy. The nicely cooked yellow noodle served with fishcake, ngor hiang, braised egg and some crispy bits. The red cut chilli enhanced the taste of the braised sauce to give it the right spiciness. This stall is manned by a friendly Uncle all by himself. A relatively long waiting time is to be expected during lunch. continue reading

The gravy was rather rich but it is not too spicy so it will be suitable for those who do not take very spicy stuff. Their laksa come in 2 prices,$ 2.50 and $3, the serving given is quite generous and could fill one stomach. They uses fresh coconut milk so the gravy is more fragrant. The noodle is cooked just nice too. continue reading

A disappointing meal for me. The newspaper cuttings and reports enticed me to try out this much sought out stall. Even my colleagues mentioned that this is a must try stall in this hawker centre. The gravy has nothing to shout about. The wanton, which is not usually served with Lor Mee, is crispy though it was mostly just skin. The meat was tender but not fragrant. The chilli paste did not aid in making the dish taste any better. continue reading

This lor mee is really tasty. It consist of egg, pork, fish cake, fried wanton, fried fish fillet and fried lotus root. The sauce is really fragrant and delicious. Not too sticky and it is very smooth. No sticky clumps! There are a lot of ingredients added and all of them are really fresh! A bowl of lor mee for $3 with lots of ingredients. It is really worthy ! Thumbs up! continue reading
