Introduction
Tonkatsu features a cosy and comfort reminiscent of casual eateries in Japan. The decor is minimal but effective in creating a clean-cut look. The restaurant serves authentic Tonkatsu - the only Tonkatsu Specialty chain restaurant in Singapore. continue reading

For the full review, please visit: http://shokushisouseikatsu.blogspot.com/2013/11/comfort-food-at-premium-tonkichi.htmlTonkichi holds a special place in my heart for the fact that I am always assured of quality during each visit. I am wary of most tonkatsu offerings elsewhere because they tend to have these problems i.e. crust being too thick and oily, the meat being too dry due to overcooking or the oily and overly-rich aftertaste. Tonkichi is always able to produce consistently good tonkatsu and my favourite is the kurobuta which has more meat juices compared to other types of pork used in tonkatsu. However, as the kurobuta commands a premium price due to its quality and lesser quantity in the market, I only turn to this comfort food once in a while to satisfy my cravings.I also tried something this time i.e. the tsukune and momo with leeks. Surprisingly, I preferred the tsukune over the momo despite the expectation that the momo's texture should have been smoother than the tsukune. In all, if you are looking for quality Japanese food and is prepared to pay a bit more than usual, this is the place for you. continue reading

Tonkichi is a japanese restaurant chain owned by Pokka (now known as Sapporo Lion). It specializes in Pork Katsu dishes...many choices of premium pork cutlets to choose from. For dinner, I ordered a Rosu Katsu set that consists of crispy pork loin cutlet, rice and miso soup. I also ordered the Horenso Goma Ae appetizer to go with my set meal. Both dishes were yummy! One good thing about Tonkichi is their ice water, green tea, raw cabbage and fruit are complimentary items. I may not be a ramen fan,but the version here taste really good and I would not mind to revisit here just for this bowl of ramen. The ramen is chewy and the portion is also quite generous. THe soup base is really thick, creamy and sweet, which certainly is tasty. Sliced pork meat are very juicy and tender, that goes really well with this dish. The service here is also friendly and helpful too. continue reading

Was glad that i have listened to my friend to check out the Japanese dishes at Tonkichi. Have tried their japanese curry rice and is simply delicious and quite fine in their quality of food. But the best part which i like about this Japanese restaurant is that they offer free flow of cabbage, charcoal green tea and free top up of your japanese rice as well. The cabbage is really crunchy and love those natural sweetness from it which is very appetitizing and goes really well with the main course and rice. If dip in their sweet Japanese sauce will even taste better as well. continue reading

This is sinfully delicious, oily, fried, crispy and juicy! Very yummy especially when taken with the yellow mustard. I love it especially how the pork retains its juiciness despite being thoroughly fried. The cabbage at the sides proves to be refreshing for the meal, it takes off the jerlatness. Very welcoming indeed. Most people stick to eating the tonkutsu, but we decided that we should also try something else instead. This is the unagi roll that we orded, it is pretty good too! continue reading
