Tako Ball with Eggs
Smile 2013-05-16

This time round I ordered the Matcha Soy drink which was quite refreshing and most importantly, it made you less guilty eating the 3 tako balls after reading the posters on the benefits of Matcha at the seating area. Haha... Self-deceiving? Saw now they served tako balls with eggs, think it should be new item. I ordered it and it was really really good! Will come back for it soon!

Fish shaped pancake
Just OK 2013-05-06

I was craving for a small snack and this japanese stall caught my eye - they have fish-shaped pancakes (which are cute) with different fillings - e.g. bacon and cheese, red bean, custard, etc. I went for the safe and conventional choice of a red bean pancake. It's a healthy snack, but taste-wise, it's only average; the red bean paste not too sweet and you could taste a little of the beans. Nothing special though.

Japanese Takoyaki and Yakisoba
Smile 2013-04-24

There are lots of takoyaki and yakisoba available in many places, but this place serves up a pretty good version of it. I guess you can never go quite wrong with a Japanese chef preparing Japanese fare.

Yakisoba.

Generous amount of it, topped with lots of bonito flakes, served piping hot. My favourite part has to be the thick layer of egg and the thick layer of sauces.

Octopus takoyaki

The chunk of octopus meat inside each takoyaki ball is quite big, and the batter is light and fluffy.

We actually meant to eat these as a teatime snack while walking around ION Orchard, but the food was so filling and satisfying we didn't need any dinner that day.

Taiyaki - Red bean in a fish?!
Just OK 2013-04-15

Whenever I'm feeling peckish in town, I like to head down to the food basement in Ion because it has such a wide variety of good food to choose from. In fact, I've become so attached to a particular Japanese snack that I even get my family to buy it home for me if they go down to Town. And this snack is no other than the fish-shaped cake - Taiyaki!

Of course, the stall is more popular for its Takoyaki balls than the Taiyaki cakes but that's a review for another day. They offer freshly made Taiyaki in a variety of flavours but being a traditionalist, I tend to opt for the red bean filled Taiyaki. That said, the banana-filled Chocolate Taiyaki is an innovative and delicious twist for this traditional Japanese snack!

The red bean filling is sweet and generously slathered over the fish-dough and if you're bored, it is fun to watch the staff make the cakes, which of course, looks way easier than it actually is. That said, I've found that the quality of the cake varies each time I buy it. While its obviously best eaten fresh out of the pan, being still warm and crispy, there are times that the dough is still soft and chewy even at the edges, which are supposed to be crispy! So, do keep that in mind and do what I like to call "strategic ordering". I like to stand and observe the staff making the cakes and also, which cakes are already made. It's your best bet to order a flavour that isn't already on the display so that staff will make you a fresh one!

Do try this snack out the next time you're in town and tell me how you like it and which flavours you prefer! Don't forget to order

   octopus takoyaki

This is really good! the octopus is big! and the outside is really crispy while its soft inside. one can probably finish 8-10 pieces easily smile

   osaka tamago yakisoba

This is something like fried noodles? i ordered the one with the eggs. there's seafood one as well. the noodle actually tastes a bit weird. like there's some vinegar taste. not really to my liking but its not awful. depends on your own taste and preference i may say.

Probably can drop by and try their takoyaki while shopping at ION! smile

Great Takoyaki
Smile 2013-03-05

The takoyaki here is amazing, and apparently one of the best in Singapore. Located in the busy food basement of Ion, the queue is sometimes long but it is definitely worth the wait. I love the octopus takoyaki the most. The is a perfect food stop when you're shopping in the orchard area smile

The takoyaki is made on the spot, and when you eat it, it is crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. lol

just the tako balls!
Just OK 2013-03-03

so mum wanted some dessert for a sweet treat.

i decided on some azuki fish pancakes for her.

she loves those.

and at $1.80, it seemed too expensive for her.

but they were making it fresh so that was a strong to-buy option right now. smile

so we waited.

and watched as he made those pretty taco balls with rice krispies and huge tako pieces.

don't mind me when i say yummylicious.

the fish wasn't that nice compared to the tako balls. sad

tako balls!
Smile 2013-02-28

the authentic tako balls from Japan. they are probably the best tako balls sold in singapore. they do maintain their quality, for instance if the tako balls are left too long at the hot plate. they throw them away and make new ones for the customers. they offer different types of toppings for those who love a new taste of tako. i prefer the original one though. perfect for tea or dessert!

Cries 2013-02-28

I was there for lunch today, wanna have it there but not enough time ,so i take away
After they renovated ,it much more spacious ,There's a counter for yakisoba & inside another for their takoyaki ,I tried their osaka tamago yaki for $5.90
Was a bit disappointed,The noodles was very dry & got a sour taste,There's some cabbage & pork but the pork was very hard & some are just bone without meat huffy
Eggs was overcooked so very dry too, waiting time was about 15mins ,while waiting i wanna get takoyaki, but i was quite confused, there's a 4-5 customers in the queue so i just queued behind them, for about 5mins,i was wondering how come the queue won't move, then i realize that actually those have already paid but just stand there waiting for their takoyaki & they should indicate one queue for waiting & one queue for ordering, like that i'm wasting my time queue for nothinghuffy
& also during peak hour, there's only 1 staff taking order, payment & pack takoyaki for customers,That why waiting time was long
I tried their takoyaki ,not bad,but their yakisoba really failed

Nice takoyaki!!
Smile 2013-02-13

Takoyaki here is really really nice! I love the one with octopus inside tongue The taste is very chewy and not that salty as compared to other takoyakis I've tried. The meat portion inside was also filling. The queue however was quite long but it was worth the wait! Oh and it's best to match the food with Macha drink to quench the tastesmile This is good especially for take aways!

Tamago Yakisoba
Just OK 2013-02-01

Went to ION Orchard for lunch and decided to give this a try. The stall sells takoyaki, as well as yakisoba. There are also seats behind the stall, catering to customers who want to dine there instead. They provide a large bin, for diners to clear up after themselves to maintain the cleanliness of the dining area (similar to fast food restaurants)

   Tamago Yakisoba

Ordered the tamago yakisoba. It came with a huge piece of egg. Found that the yakisoba was pretty normal, nothing special. In fact, I found the noodles a tad too oily and didn't even finish it. It's the type that you get sick of after a while.

Service was pretty okay, with the staff being friendly and polite.

Tamago Yakisoba
Just OK 2013-01-31

Dropped by Gindaco for lunch and decided to try out their Tamago Yakisoba.

The yakisoba was served with a huge portion of fried egg, topped with Japanese mayonnaise and bonito flakes. The noodles closest to the layer of egg was sufficiently drenched in the sauces drizzled on the top of the egg whereas the same cannot be said for the noodles nearing the base of the plate - they mostly ended up being dry, lacking a punch in the flavour department and unappetising.

Window shopping in town area, suddenly mouth itchy again, despite Ion basement going under face lifting that still doesn't chase me away from snacking my favourite food Takoyaki.
Big round Crispy skin packed with flavorful gooey and hot fillings, beware of the hot filling oozing out when taking the first bite.
Extra sauce, extra mayo, extra fish flakes ! Totally worth the queuing.

Takoyaki
Just OK 2012-07-31

Takoyaki has been my favourite snack. It is a joy in eating them. I tried for the first time to have my favourite takoyaki to served with egg salad. The taste was a pleasant surprise but it did not manage to wow me. The takoyaki balls were not as hot this time as i went during their off peak period. It still has got a layer of crisp surface but moist within. It is still good to eat.

Takoyaki Balls
Just OK 2012-06-12

We had their excellent takoyaki balls with an absolutely delish egg mayo topping and signature sauce! The takoyaki balls were served straight from the pan and were pipping hot! I would say the octopus filling was unfortunately not very generous, with each ball containing a small piece of octopus. Nonetheless the thick, chewy bits of octopus encased in soft, fluffy flour ball layers really makes the takoyaki balls here make an irresistible combination.

However, the egg mayo topping provided was very disappointingly little, with just two small scoops on top of the balls. The egg mayo topping was not too bad; it didn't exactly enhance the flavours of the tako balls, but I guess it served as a nice topping for another additional mushy ingredient (or maybe additional calories!) to go with the balls.
