Was hungry while doing cny shopping in chinatown and ventured to this horfun stall with the newspaper articles all over, wanting to try the chicken horfun. Alas, was sold out by 2 pm and had to settle with plain horfun + prawn wanton soup as didn't like crayfish. The order was served fast within 7 mins after ordering but had to queue behind 3 people before ordering.Soup had a strong prawn smell but otherwise bland as I believe the stallholder didn't add other seasoning. There were 5 wantons in the soup. Each wanton only had a large prawn each with a little fish paste to hold the wanton skin together. Fresh but nothing to rave about as taste very bland without seasoning.Horfun was heated in hot water and had some brown sauce with two kailan leaves. Nothing special in taste.Disposable utensils were used to serve the food but glad that there wasn't additional charge of $0.50 imposed on takeaway orders (same disposable chopsticks and spoon used, just the translucent container is different from dine-in).Price is reasonable for the prawns used considering that prawns costs more nearing cny. But will not make another visit as not outstanding in terms of taste. continue reading

This is one of the popular stalls at Hong Lim Food Complex and I heard that the queue starts forming once the owner opens his stall at 11am! They are so popular that it closes around 3pm! True enough, I was there close to 12pm and there were already a long queue. I waited for around 10 minutes before it got to my turn and I had their signature crayfish and prawn hor fun! The crayfish meat comes off so easily and the prawns were so fresh. I also love the slippery texture of the hor fun, which was nicely soaked up by the delicious sauce! This is one of those dish that you could never get sick of eating again and again. continue reading

One of my favourite for this stall is shredded chicken prawn hor fun, same sauce used for all with fresh prawns and vegetables. their sauce is very fragrant with rich prawn taste, the chilli is a good combination with hor fun, very tasty and spicy for the hor fun, this stall is very famous in Hong Lim, normally long queue during lunch hours, I always like to go and eat if got the chance, their takeaway cost 50cents more with more portions given with sauce separated. All of the hor fun is good in this stall except for their dumplings not worth to order, too expensive. continue reading

(+) Unique and probably one of its kind to be found in local hawker centres.(+) Generous serving of 1 whole crayfish with roe and several large prawns.(+) Thick and very flavoursome gravy and you could distinctly taste the 'seafood-ness'.(+) Hor Fun were soft, henceforth a perfect element to the overwhelming gravy.(+) Fresh crayfish and prawns were used.(+) Very succulent flesh, springy and definitely bursting with flavours.(+) Perfect for seafood-lovers, price and quality wise!(-) The long queue.(-) Definitely a no-no for people who cannot stand overwhelming seafood aroma.(-) You either love it or hate it.Verdict: 8.5/10 continue reading

The FoodI ordered a small plate of crayfish hor fun which comes with 2 pieces of medium halved prawns, 1 piece of large halved prawn and 2 pieces of halved crayfish. Drenched with thick savory gravy that is well concentrated with crustacean sweetness, the thin kway teow is smooth and very flavorful. The crayfish are fresh and have fleshy meat that is so tender and tasty. Lastly, the fresh prawns are also delightfully sweet and juicy. The PriceReasonably priced at $4.50 per plateOverallI will definitely come back again and highly recommended to try this! continue reading
