From a home-based bakery, Two bakers has landed foot at jalan besar café hotspot, serving French and American pastries that are lovingly handcrafted and baked fresh daily in the cafe by Le Cordon Bleu Paris trained chef. Two Bakers were located stones away from tiramisu hero, window by the sills and bravery café. We were greeted with a most attractive cake display. The entire café has great ambiance. It was really a nice place to chill and relax. The beautiful cakes barThe entire café was really spacious as seen below. The sablee was used to create the tender, buttery crust filled with the yuzu lemon curd. It was sour sweet curd appetizes us for more cakes, but we have to be careful with our calories intake for fear of being fat. Le Chocolat Noir ($9.80) & Yuzu Lemon Tart ($7.80)Le Chocolat Noir was made up of 55% dark chocolate mousse with hazelnut and praline feuilletine base. The mousse was rich and smooth while the hazelnut and praline base was crunchy. Love the match between them. SingaporeA pretty cosy place to chill at during weekdays as it wasn't really crowded. Location is quite accessible, its less than 10mins walk from Lavender Mrt or Farrer Park Mrt. Co-owned by two talented chefs from Le Cordon Bleu Paris, who love to bake and explore new recipes, thus the name "Two Bakers" came about.(1) Purple Gold Tart $7.80- What's in it? Lavender infused chocolate ganache, caramel ganache, roasted almond bits and caramel tuile. The wedd of chocolate + caramel results in this very sweet tasting tart, best suits chocolate lovers (like me). Almond bits didn't play much part because it was too little to provide with the additional crunch or nut fragrance. Tart shell was firm but teeth still manageable.(2) Yuzu Summer Cake $9.80- The Yuzu lemon yogurt mousse was smooth & creamy but tasted too zesty, sourish which i prefer to be less. The matcha sponge within is redundant as matcha taste was too weak and Yuzu taste was too overwhelming.(3) Halloween themed baked goodsA) Greedy Val Cake $7.0- The chocolate cake is very soft and moist. The cake itself wasn't too sweet, sweetness only comes from the vanilla buttercream. Love the melt-in-your-mouth Rasberry coated meringue.(B) Wicked John Cake $7.0- The content of the Wicked John cake is exactly the same with the Greedy Val, except that it is drizzled with Rasberry glaze instead of chocolate.(4) Halloween themed Macarons $3.50 per pc/ $12 for 4.-Flavours are Yuzu, Rose, Matcha and Lavender Chocolate. I can honestly tell you I bought them because they looked pretty in Halloween costumes, it is the appearance that attracted me first. Taste wise, the flavours are quite distinctive and shells are crisp.Verdict: Quite love this place because it is quiet in the afternoon and I could have proper chat with my friends without disturbance. Staff are very courteous and approachable. Taste of baked goods are definitely above average but my personal choice are their cakes. I think their cakes flare better compared to rest. Two bakers also serve coffee, snacks and other mains. I will be back continue reading

Two Le Cordon Bleu Paris trained chefs, a cook, together with passion and a dream, that's how Two Bakers got started. Specializing in artisan pastries and desserts, Two Bakers has fearlessly hopped on the bandwagon together with existing congregation of cafes at Jalan Besar. From time to time, Two Bakers will tag along festive occasions, whip up unique food menu and boost the festive atmosphere with creative decorations.I had the Two Bakers TYB (Tau Yu Bak - $13.80) which is a braised pulled pork sandwich served with a fried egg and ciabatta. Nicely done oriental styled pulled pork that was tender and juicy. My friend had the Beef Stew ($15.80) which was a Christmas special. Serving portion was generous with tender beef chunks as majority along side with potatoes, carrots and celery.I had a delightful cup of latte ($5.5) served with Chakra blend (Brazil, Ethiopian Sidamo, Guatemala beans) from Strangers' Reunion. Chocolatey, earthy and caramel notes served warm during a chilly rainy night, such a bliss. We also had the Chicken Drumlets ($9.8) that came with ten drumplets. It was crunchy and savory, pretty awesome stuff. This is definitely one of the better cafes in Jalan Besar despite being the youngest kid down the block.More pics and thoughts at http://lepakwithyaops.com/two-bakers-artisan-pastries-and-sweets-at-88-horne-road continue reading

I thought I had pretty much exhausted most of the cafes along Lavendar area, then I heard about Two Bakers Cafe opening. Hence, that was the decided dinner venue for The Beau and I this evening.Yes, it is so new that it is days' old. As cafes go, they are not very huge, and the usual setting applies - all rectangular wooden tables, metal chairs and a long pastry / coffee counter . Nonetheless, the ambience was warm and welcoming amidst the chillax vibes. For mains, we shared the Bow Tie Napolitan (SGD$13.80), add Grilled Chicken (SGD$2.00) - well, the bow-tie pasta was adorable. The seemingly rich tomato sauce was surprisingly just right in flavor without being too strong or sour - redolent of tomato's flavor, but with just the right note. The mushrooms and rocket leaves were lovely additions, as well as the succulent grilled chicken slices. I had the Quesadilla (SGD$9.00) for my mains, adding Bacon (SGD$1.50) - a lovely sandy-textured crust enclaving spicy sauce, chilli pepper and melted cheese within -and my added bacon to add on to the flavorful fillings. We also had the Luncheon Meat Fries (SGD$7.80) added on as an afterthought (no thanks to my inane craving) - slim, crispy strips of deepfried luncheon meat. This was nice because it was not too salty, unlike those we had at other cafes. For full review and more photos, please feel free to visit:http://thearcticstar.blogspot.sg/2014/10/dinner-at-two-bakers-cafe.html continue reading
