Great chill out place

On my latest visit to Ulu Ulu Cafe Lounge there was a big crowd unlike other occasions when the place was more intimate and less busy. Perhaps it was because there was a special buffet dinner for a private function with a live band playing for them. Apart from not getting my favourite table it was every bit as enjoyable and satisfying as before but more noisy!
Without a doubt the food there is good and substantial for the prices they charge, which is really very cheap considering the quality they provide. My favourite dish is still the Slow Roast Chicken Stew in White Wine Sauce. Most of the friends that I have brought there also agree that this dish is unique and not available any where else in Singapore. The chicken curry is also good, not too spicy or too rich. It has a flavour that is uniquely theirs. Not like the usual Indian or Malay curries you get elsewhere. Not sure why this site lists pizza as their speciality as it is not available on the menu. However you can make a special request for a naan inspired sort-of-pizza with toppings such as sliced tandoori chicken, pepperoni, seafood or anything you feel like as long as they have stock. The beef stew is a hit with my sister who says it is the best she has had in a long time.
Apart from the food the beer is CHEAP and they have good coffee. The chocolate brownie is to die for...
The dining area is large and yet they also have a lounge area where you can shift to after dinner for drinks and a chat. There is a pool table and a karom board! it's been a long time since I've even seen a karom board! If you'd rather somewhere warmer or you smoke you can also sit outside in the al fresco area under the stars. It has nice greenery and a mish mash of different tables and chairs.
All in all I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for a different kind of atmosphere, it is afterall located in an offshore supply base. A long drive unless you live nearby, but we called for a cab and it came in 5 minutes! A bit rough and industrial but charming.
