Googled this place to celebrate my friend's birthday. It was listed as one of the best Halal restaurant. However, it was to my disappointment that it did not live up to its name.We will given an outside seat even though a reservation has been made. The food was so-so but the cafe crew gave us a slight discount to make up for the discomfort.I may not return to this cafe again. continue reading

Vintage Deli is definitely a great place to chill out with friends. It is tucked at a corner with Arab Street. I didn't find it hard to find neither to get to this place at all. It was some minutes’ walk away from Bugis MRT. I was surprised this place was crowded when I arrived. I suppose it is quite well-known. I went with a friend there and I decided to order the Fish & Chip & Mushroom Soup while she ordered the Aglio Olio. I really like the Mushroom soup, it was so fresh and tasty accompanied with a garlic toast. The creaminess of the taste was just right. The Fish & Chip smelt so good when it was served and the crisp of the breaded batter was just right and tasted so delicious. My friend didn’t really like her Aglio Olio as she find it too salty. I tried some of hers but it tasted alright to me. Overall, I enjoyed my food and with the affordable pricing, it was definitely a plus. I would definitely return to the place again. continue reading

For full review and photos, please visit http://thumbsforfood.blogspot.sg/2012/10/vintage-delicafe-bussorah-street.htmlWhen we arrived there at 6.45p.m, the seats indoors were almost filled. It is quite a small restaurant with limited seating capacity of about less than 50 seats both indoors and outdoors, thus we were lucky to have a table for 2. So, be sure to make reservations if you're going there during meal times to avoid having to wait for a long time.We had a hard time finishing our main courses due to the big portion! We wanted to try their Tiramisu for dessert, but was too full to do so. The business is run by a family and thus, dining there really feels very homely.Overall, I feel that Vintage Delicafe serves unpretentious homely comfort food. I will come back to try their other dishes such as their grilled food and their Aglio Olio. When I left, the friendly staff asked me for some feedback, and I said that it was great portions and homely food. He quipped that it is indeed that they serve in huge portions and would be best that I go with a hungry stomach. For affordable comfort food, I think Vintage Delicafe is worth your try! But, don't forget to make reservations! continue reading

I would like to put a disclaimer first. There are no food shots here because each time I'm at Vintage Delicafe, I find myself completely mesmerized, my stomach growling in anticipation that by the time I do remember to take a picture, everythings gone.I hope that at least, my description (it might be a bit exaggerated), is enough to pique your curiosity to try out this quaint family-run delicafe. What is a delicafe anyway? Vintage opens after 1pm, which means it isn't really the type of place to hit for breakfast or even brunch. If you walk too fast along Bussorah Street, you might just miss it. I've been to Vintage more often than anywhere else in the Arab Street area. So much that I know the owner's son, remember which school he goes to and when he graduates, that his mother/aunt/sister seem to know what my order is without needing me to flip open the menu. There is only one thing and one thing alone I devour when I am there. When I say devour, it's the kind of hunger that brooks no room for argument or even conversation. You will find me the quietest within a group of friends, so rare, because I am completely entranced by what's placed before me.I daresay that everything on the menu is delectable. The fish and chips, steak, chicken chop and even bangers and mash are something that you should definitely try if you're far more experimental than I am. Oh... I've tried the rest but nothing quite beats my favourite - Black Pepper Beef Pasta.Vintage allows you to choose your level of spiciness. If you're a chilli nut like me, go for 2. At that level (I can take 3 and more but then it ruins the experience), the spice is just perfect. I've tried it with linguine, spaghetti and penne. This dish is best eaten with the last. The gravy, spices and all find their way into the hollow pasta and each bite is a sensory delight. There's just enough beef and bell peppers complementing the amount of food they give you. I don't know how they make it, all I know is that it's just really that damn good.Go there with a voracious appetite. The fish and chips serving is so generous that even at my hungriest, I need the help of a friend to finish it off. Service is always impeccable. It's just homely and you can strike a conversation with any of the family members. When it's not too busy, they'll even stop by and ask you how's the food and how's your day. If you're a regular, well then it's more than just small talk.Verdict? I just love Vintage Delicafe. From the cozy quaint atmosphere and decoration, to the friendly serving team (I don't even want to say crew because they really work together, like duh, it's family after all) and the food.I brought my fiance there for our anniversary dinner and from the moment he sank his teeth into the pasta, he's been bugging me to go back for more of it ;)Oh... the only problem is that it's a rather small restaurant, space-wise. So make sure to make reservations because the place gets packed during peak hours and if there is space, you might be seated close to the kitchen (no biggie for me). continue reading
