About this Restaurant:
In 2001, inspired by an unforgettable experience at an eatery in Wan Chai, Mr John Lim founded Wan Chai HongKong Tea Room. Here at Wan Chai, Hong Kong specialties such as shrimp wonton noodles are made available. What adds a unique touch to the dining experience at Wan Chai is the subtle twist given to the usual staples, snacks and beverages of a typical cha chan teng, simply by blending in ingredients of another culture, such as the teriyaki beef with onion and mushroom steamed rice and baked seafood rice with wasabi cheese.

Signature Dishes: Century Egg W/ Minced Pork Porridge, Chicken with Sausage & Black Mushroom Steamed rice, Prawn Paste Chicken

Was looking for a place to have dinner at lot 1 but most places were quite packed. We headed for the basement of lot 1 and was surprised to find wan chai half empty!! And since the prices look pretty reasonable, comparable to food court, maybe just $1 or $2 more, we decide to settle for dinner there!!

We ordered two plates of wanton shrimp noodles (dry) and a cup of yuan yang! The shrimp wantons were big and rather filling, so it's quite worth it. But the dish was abit salty and maybe more vegetables could take the salty taste away. Yuan yang was thick and sweet!

By the time we left, the place was full! A good place to go if you want to go with lesser crowd!

Good Value, Good food

bowlmad
I ordered the chicken and Chinese sausage rice set for take-away. I waited for less than 20 mins for my food to arrive which was rather fast compared to other modern restaurants. The chicken was boiled to just the right texture and the taste of it was juicy and flavourful. The whole meal cost me about 6.5 but it was rather worth it as the portion was huge and the dishes were plentiful! lol

nice dish
Smile 2012-06-13

i went to wan chai for dinner with my friends. I was kind of spoilt for choice as I scanned through the menu. There were quite a lot of food. I finally settled for the yuan yang baked rice. there were seafood in the dish. I found the seafood really fresh. The prawn especially was very sweet and succulent. The mussels was so juicy and tasty. All the seafood were seasoned perfectly. The rice is very fragrant, they used some tomato sauce. The tomato sauce added some acidity to the dish. I love the cheesiness of the dish. As a whole I thought it was really good.

A Satisfying Dinner @ Wan Chai
Smile 2012-04-29

Met up with my friends to catch a movie and before that, we went to Wan Chai Hong Kong Tea Room @ Lot 1 to have our dinner. I loved the Chicken leg baked rice from there, so I didnt waste time in ordering that for my meal.

The place requires patrons to tick their orders on a slip of paper and walk over to the cashier to place the order. Though they serve the food to the table. A nice touch to the rice was that a bowl of soup accompanied every main you order. The whole meal cost me $9.10, inclusive a GST of 60cents.

Chicken Leg Baked Rice
Portion was huge, I managed to eat only 3/4 of the whole plate before I gave up trying to stuff myself. The chicken leg was also big, and the skin was really nice and tasty. Flesh was tender, though it was pretty oily. There were carrots at the side, though I didnt touch them. The amount of cheese was just nice, but rice portion was too much for me. The sauce with the rice was too salty to my liking.

Soup
The soup smelt like some herbal concoction of some sort, but it was actually veggies (I presume it was seaweed) soup. There was a very strong taste of seaweed which I disliked, so I drank only 5 mouthfuls of it and as my friend said it was good for health, she drank finished my whole bowl of soup after that.

Overall, satisfying meal as portion is very worth the price; I was really full. smile

Ice lemon tea

Soya bean milk

   Yuan Yang

Hong Kong's yuan yang is really very nice..!
It's hong kong style milk tea.
Dont know why,it is a bit different from the normal one.
Maybe there are some special ingredient.
The sweetness is just right. Not too sweet.

shredded pork w sze chuan vege w crispy noodles

It was piping hot.
The gravy was peppery and tasty.
It was very filling, I love the crispiness of the noodles soaking in the tasty gravy.

    Beef egg rice $7.2

Tasteless. The beef and egg is normal. everything is average here. No more second time.

Ordered the curry chicken baked rice at Wan chai hong kong tea room at lot 1 and i find it rather worth it. Firstly, the price is reasonable. It's around less than $10.Secondly, the food tasted really good and it's not very oily even though the cheese is quite alot. And the portion is quite big! Thirdly, the service is fast. I manage to get my food in less than 15 mins.

Other than that, they also serve a wide range of food such as soup, noodles and even dessert which taste equally tasty!

Baked scallop, salmon and asparagus rice with cheese $10
I don’t quite enjoy their salmon fish as it produces some fishy smell which doesn’t look and taste appealing to me. I still prefer the pork chop baked rice more.

Prawn paste chicken X3 pieces $5.50
The smell of the prawn paste chicken and the crispy and sizzling hot of the chicken with the smoke immersed in to your eyes and nose with every bite of the crispy and yummy chicken. This is simply heaven.

Ice hongkong Yuan Yang $3 with a vanilla ice cream on top.
The cold version would be topped with ice cream, although it was not mentioned in the menu. With the bitter and sweet taste of the drink and the ice cream respectively, it makes the whole drink addictive!

The porridge is also nice.
It is very smooth and soft, and i like the taste of the pork.
It is really nice..! And the century egg is also very Q.

I love Hong Kong's tea and coffe drinks. I ordered their warm teh and my friend ordered their coffee. The tea is thicker and more creamy than those you drink at coffee shops. Absolutely delicious! The tea is thick and has a very strong taste of tea. I like this kind of tea. The coffee is thick with condensed milk and coffee taste as well

delicious baked cheese chicken curry rice
Smile 2011-11-20

I went to wan chai with a group of friends for a meal, I ordered their baked cheese chicken curry rice. it really taste as good as it sound. The rice is baked just right, there are some charred rice stuck at the side of the dish. The chicken drumstick is indeed huge. It was very tender and juicy as well. They really spammed a lot of cheese. Every bite you take, you can taste their cheese. The curry flavour added a little something to the dish, makes it very mouth watering.

Chicken baked rice
Smile 2011-06-21

This is the first time that i have tried the wan chai at lot 1 and i realized that the food is actually not bad.

I had the chicken baked rice, which comes with generous serving of chicken, mushroom, cheese and flavored rice. I love cheese! There was an option to trade up to chicken drumstick for addition $1.50 which i did not, but regretted in the end. They gave a lot of chicken but the chicken breast meat were too dry.

It comes with a free soup of the day too, which was delicious but, i was too full after the baked rice to finished it.

Fish baked rice
Smile 2011-06-18

This is one of my favorite places for its baked rice. It comes with a soup of the day, which is usually very delicious. The soup today was corn soup, which was flavorful and sweet.

I ordered the fish baked rice this time. The rice is not soggy, nicely baked with lots of cheese that fills the entire plate. The fish is soft and goes very well with the cheese and cream. The portion of the rice is quite a lot and I could not finish them, especially with the amount of cheese that makes one even fuller.
