was recommended by friend, decided to go and try it out. it was weekend thus waiting time is longer, about 10mins to get our seats. ordered and serving time is quite fast about 15mins or so. was surprise that actually their rice is able to refill! which is special compared to other japanese resturant. food wise was very nice worth the price. refill drink is kind of slow.

I will go liang court almost every 2 weeks for dinner
this time i tried their toji mixed set, there's beef, pork cutlet & prawn, but i told them i don't want the beef, also told them don't want onions, but end up they still put onionsmad
I like their rice,very soft,tofu was fresh & silky
Pork cutlet was a bit hard, prawn was nice, waiting time took about 20mins during weekend dinner
As my previous time i went,i mention that they won't auto refill water, after 1months plus, still the same situation huffy

usually i go liang court for their curry, but since yayoiken open,i had hard time choosing which to eat,as i love bothlol
Last month i went, they having some season limited edition pork cutlet set
i don't really like pork but their pork is very chewy ,tender,i love their salad, very refreshing
The rice they offer unlimited top up but is impossible for us to eat another bowl,as one set portion is quite a lot,This time also tried their fried ika that the waiter recommend us,
It tasted quite hard, not very nice,we can't really finish so we ask for take away & they never charge us any extra take away fee, which was great ,one thing they need to improve is ,hope they can automatic refill our greentea instead of we keep calling them.

Nice Japanese Food
Smile 2013-01-30

Yayoiken

This nicely nested restaurant in the corner of Meidi-Ya Supermarket at Liang Court serves affordable nice Japanese food.

My hubby and I ordered Shima hokke set and switch miso soup toKaikiru soup(Clam shell) and Mix toji set.

The serving was quick. The portion of the food was also good especially Shima hokke (Fish) it was not just fillet but the "body" of the fish was served well pan-fried.

The Mix toji was also tasty.

Of course their rice was nice and free refill was available.

I love their preserved vegetable that was on the table too.

I like to commend also on their service which was excellent and they are very well-trained for their customer service. I will return and enjoy their good food and good service.

Recommended Dish(es):
Shima hokke

Homely Japanese Fare
Smile 2013-01-16

Yayoiken restaurant is nicely situated right at the entrance of Meidi-ya supermarket at Liang Court. I decided to have my dinner here as i was attracted by the colourful display case of their food (plastic models).

I ordered a saba miso set as i simply love this dish and i will always order it wherever it is available.

The food was served pretty fast. Each set contain our main dish, a miso soup, a small cold tofu and a bowl of rice.

My saba miso is really good! The saba is well-braised in the miso sauce that the miso flavour is presence in the fish. The accompanied eggplants and beans makes the dish more colourful and healthy. You can eat them plain, but i suggest you to coat it with the miso sauce to get the best taste. =)
Nevertheless, the miso soup and the miso sauce is quite salty, but paired with the plump starchy japanese rice, the whole meal is so satisfying!

Will visit again soon!

Dinner with Colleagues
Just OK 2013-01-12

Finally have the chance to try Yayoiken which is next Medi-ya supermarket located at Liang Court. Thanks to my colleagues for the dinner treat. It's walking distance approximately 10-15mins from Clark Quay MRT Station.
The view of the restaurant taking using iPhone 4S.

 menu

Foods that we ordered that night :-

Gyoza aka Japanese dumplings @ SGD4.90.
The skin of the dumplings are thin enough that we able to taste the ingredients in it. Gyoza taste nice with the ready sauce made.

Miso Katsu Set SGD 13.90
Simmered pork cutlet with miso paste set.
The pork cutlet was nicely done and the meat texture was not too hard. The potatoes are cooked well as well. Presentation is splendid as well.

Combo Hamburg set SGD18.90
Combo steaks with hamburg, wiener sausages and bacon set.
This set is a combination of japanese-western style. Nevertheless the taste is good. The bacon and wiener sausages are nicely grilled and you can taste the grill taste. Not too oily and it as nicely cooked.
The salad was quite a big portion. It is a refreshing appetizer and able to cleanse after the greasy sizzling combo set.

Special Steak Mix Set SGD19.90
Beef, chicken & hamburg steak on hotplate set. The staff was considerate when he takes his order. He will ask how we would like the beef to be done. So the slice beef turned out to be just the way i want it to be. The meat texture is tender and easy to chew. There is also mayonnaise to dip with and the taste is delicious as well. I like the sliced bacon as well.

Momoji Set SGD13.90
Beef, fried prawn and pork cutlet topped with egg set. It is a filling set as the set has so many ingredients to go with the plain rice. Nothing special of the set but the taste is good in terms of the quality of the foods.

Overall dinner was pleasant and the serving time is within 20minutes time. The restaurant serves affordable japanese meal sets that suits the taste buds of locals. I would definitely drop by again for the food quality.

Good, affordable and generous
Smile 2012-08-10

Chanced upon this one day was curious as it seems new. First impression: I thought the menu seems pretty affordable and there was a crowd in the restaurant so I guess it must be not bad. Decided that i must go back.
So anyway this is what i had when i went to restaurant. Was so famished that I didnt pay attention to the names of the dishes.
This was my very porky dish. Very good and generous amount of pork belly, swipe it to and fro, dip it in raw egg and it becomes excellent! My only grouse was that the sauce was a little too sweet! Quite jerlat at the end of the meal but well... I dont mind the portion! Ha! This dish was slightly more expensive compared to the rest at $19.90.

This is how the entire set looks like

My friend's dish. Fried prawns, beef and chicken or was it pork cutlet. Pretty good and generous too at $12.90.

Good & affordable Japanese
Smile 2012-07-04

I have this arbitrary goal of trying every Japanese restaurnant in Liang Court, so last night for quick dinner I went to Yayoiken. It was about 7pm and we immediately got a table. The service was excellent and the staff even warned me that the iced green tea didn't have free refills when I ordered it (it's only $1, so it's ok!).

I was really craving cold udon, and the only place on the menu I could find it was in a set, so I ordered the Oyako don + Zaru Udon. It came quickly and the presentation was really good. The oyako don (chicken, egg, rice) was okay but not great... it was maybe a little undercooked and the egg made everything else wet. It was bland too, even after I added soy sauce. But I absolutely loved the cold Udon! I slurped all the thick, smooth noodles up. Yum!

My boyfriend had a set with stir-fried pork, rice, miso soup, and a side salad that was even cheaper than my set. His was $9.90 and mine was $12.90. With drinks and tax/service, the bill was still under $30 making this a really great value. I'll definitely be back to try something else!

Went there for lunch with colleagues. I ordered Chicken Namban Set. When the food was arrived, it was quite tempting. First bite, the chicken was not bad. It was fried chicken but in teriyaki sauce. The chicken was fresh and pipping hot. It was chewy and tender and even goes well with the sauce. The chicken was moist and juicy too. Their rice was not bad too, not too hard or sticky. Its like eating japanese rice. Their rice is free flow. As for the miso soup, I think it was average. Their salad was nice, fresh and the sauce was good. Green tea also free flow. Overall, the food was not bad.

   Average

First time trying this Japanese Restaurant and was recommended by my friend. Long queue during lunch hours. I ordered Katsu Curry (chicken cutlet+miso soup+salad) and Gyoza. The quality and authenticity was amazing. First bite, the chicken was average. Meat was a little bit hard to chew, however it remained crisp despite the sauce and not too fatty too. Miso soup was my personal favourite. Savory and thick. The salad was good. It was quite fresh and really goes well with the salad sauce. I like the rice. It was soft in texture. The shrimp gyoza was not bad too. A nice crispy dumpling skin over flavourful shrimp. I can tasted the freshness of the shrimp. Overall, the food was average.
