We decided to have dinner at Yet Con Chicken Rice and Restaurant because it was highly recommended by 蔡瀾.The restaurant didn't have any grand decorations and it looked like 茶餐廳 in Hong Kong. Fortunately it was not crowded and we didn't need to wait.As the restaurant was famous for Hainanese Chicken Rice, we of course ordered this dish. The food was served very quickly. The chicken was soft even though it was frozen. The soy sauce was tasty and was a perfect match with the chicken. The chili sauce was a little salty and spicy, and could be improved. The most impressive food was the chicken rice which was very fragrant with enough moist and onion oil. We will definitely come back for the chicken rice. continue reading

After visiting the National Library, i was hungry but lazy to walk far for my dinner. Hence I decided to find a eatery selling local food.I walked into Yet Con and ordered Chicken Rice and Pork chop for 2 person. The price total was $21.60.The chicken looked like traditionally cooked using steaming method instead of soaking in hot water  like most other stalls nowadays. The skin of the chicken tasted salty and I thought it was salted chicken. The meat was well cooked, moist and sweetness of chicken meat. The pork chop was rather disappointing. The meat was rather thin and tasteless. But I do like the fried sliced potato in the tomato sauce, it went well with the sweet sourish sauce. The rice was good with enough moist and onion oil. There was no taste of Chicken fats in the rice. continue reading

The FoodI ordered the chicken rice set for one which comes with a plate of steamed white chicken, a bowl of rice and a bowl of soup. Coated with a layer of chicken broth, every grain of rice is incredibly fragrant and tasty. Gently drizzled with light soya sauce, the steamed tender white chicken tastes flavorful and delicious. The savory chilli sauce tastes more salty than spicy, could have improved on this. The PriceReasonably priced at $5 per setOverallI will definitely come back again and highly recommended to try this! continue reading

For more details and pictures, please visit: http://cheesemafia.blogspot.sg/2012/07/yet-con-hainanese-chicken-rice-purvis.htmlWe sought refuge in the air conditioned place at Yet Con Hainanese Chicken Rice Restaurant in the sweltering noon heat. Stepping into the old and no frills restaurant reminded me of classic Hong Kong eateries and for a moment it felt like I was out of Singapore. The place was bustling with people during the lunch hour. The 'Homemade' Barley ($1.50) was definitely not 'homemade' with its distinct artificial syrup flavoring that bore a strong resemblence to Yeo's barley drink. I was disappointed at the lack of barley pearls in the drink. Chicken Rice (Half a Chicken- $13, Rice- $0.60 per bowl) The chicken at Yet Con Restaurant is served as it is, without additional oil or sauce. I thought the chicken was succulent and tasty and loved the fact that it was not overly greasy. The chicken rice was very fragrant. We thought the chili sauce could be improved though, perhaps a little lime and some garlic could do the trick.Fish Maw with Chinese Cabbage and Assorted Meat ($20)The Fish Maw dish was a little on the pricey side but it was well worth it. The dish was well seasoned and bore chunks of seafood, meat and vegetables. The sauce was really good and I particularly enjoyed the fish maw. Hainanese Pork Chop ($10)This has got to be the highlight of the day. The pork chop was excellent and everyone at the table loved it. The breaded pork was crisp on the outside and tender on the inside, it went very well with the light tomato based sauce. Good place for a casual quick lunch! continue reading

My friend has been raving about this so-called famous chicken rice of all in Singapore. Finally i got to try it during one of the weekends for lunch time. Very crowded and squeezed between tables. And indeed abit run down shop. There isn't any fats so called in the kampong chicken meat, however, the taste was too plain for me. The chicken rice wasn't fragrance as others that I have eaten before. I guessed for healthy sake for chicken rice lovers, this is a good choice. continue reading
