The choices are limitless.But extensive menus aren't usually good news for diners.Cha Gio.I like my Viet rolls... FRIED.Crisp exterior and juicy stuffings within.Dip into spicy sweet sour sauce for the perfect final touch.Now we were terribly hungry!Mix fruit tea.There couldn't be a worse sounding name.It sounded like fruit cocktail.But of course this was herbal tea which O.D.ed on sugar syrup.White fungus, red dates, barley, lotus root, dried longan and I have no other clue what else was within.But this was by far better than plum or passion juice.Three prawns, perfect for the three girls In a word?Refreshing.Juicy sacs of the pomelo, delightfully crunchy onion slices, carrot, cucumber and diced chicken meat.All tossed together in an addictively tangy dressing.Beef balls and tender beef slices.Where was my extensive raw slivers of beansprout? The soup was savoury.But tasted more of seasoning than anything else.And no it wasn't quite the pho I was eagerly looking forward to.This was thin in width but thicker than I expected.Dinner came up to about $15 per pax for the three of us plus drinks.It wasn't expensive but the food wasn't the taste of Vietnam I was looking for either.

My friend and I had taken a shopping trip to Chinatown. Being in Chinatown, we expected to have cheap and good eats. However, we just couldn't seem to find the Hawker Centre, and ended up spending A LOT on our lunch.One of the few places that were open at the time we went was Yummy Viet. The sign board said they offered lunch sets for around $8. We were already a little reluctant to enter after seeing the price, but we went in anyway. After taking a look at the menu, we realized that MANY of the menu items were $8.90 ++++.I believe the only thing that was at $8.90 was the Chicken Noodles. Despite it being the cheapest, I just couldn't stand being in a Vietnamese Restaurant and only eating Chicken Noodles. I had to try the Pho instead. The whole set lunch cost me around $11.00+.With the Lunch Set, you get a choice of drink, appetizer and the main course.I had a sore throat that day, so I was hoping that the Plum Juice would alleviate the pain. However, their plum juice was not concentrated enough. It was a little diluted, making the taste somewhat bland - neither sour nor sweet. I ordered some Spring Rolls for my appetizer. These weren't too bad. The first few bites they were good, but subsequently they made me feel a little "heavy". It was extremely oily, first of all. My ideal spring roll is one that is lightly fried, that includes a good balance between the vegetables and meat to make it light and "spring(the season)"-like. However, the meat in these spring rolls were rather overwhelming. On the plus side, it meant that they are generous with the meat. Yet, too much can make you sick. Fortunately it came with a sweet and sour sauce that helped balance the heaviness of the spring roll. Ah...Pho. The pride of Vietnamese Cuisine. The Menu even spared the dish a page to explain the brilliance of the bowl of noodles in beef stock. It mentioned that the stock is boiled for hours to make sure the flavor stays within the soup. It got me so excited, but the moment I got it and tried it, I was a little disappointed. I really wondered if the soup had been boiled for hours. I feel like any local Prawn Mee had more flavor in its stock that the one at Yummy Viet. The thin beef slices were also a little on the tough side. The impression I got after the meal was that I didn't get my money's worth. Part of the reason might be because I had intended to eat yummy, cheap hawker food. Of course, this might have clouded my judgment. Nonetheless, next time I go to China town, i will probably phoget Yummy Viet, and go find some cheapo la mian.

I was at Chinatown after having a haircut and decide to meet a friend working nearby for a quick lunch. Anyway, we decide to have something different and not too expensive also, and so we decide to have our lunch at Yummy Viet. The food is really quite good. I have ordered a summer rolls and my friend has ordered a beef cube with marcaroni which were both good. The only sad thing is their service, a bit slow in preparing their food. Other wise, it should be a great dining place for vietnam food lover. Its something new and interesting to try.
