After years of waiting, Jollibee has finally landed in Singapore. Due to the Filipinos’ love for this fast food brand, you can expect a mad crowd of people flocking to Lucky Plaza just so they can have their cravings of Yumburgers, Spaghetti, and the ever-famous Chickenjoy. Trust us, it may take some time before you get your turn and have some of what it has to offer.
To satiate your cravings for something Pinoy, OpenRice has listed down some eateries in this mall which you can visit first…that is, until the Jollibee fever has died down. Here they are!
1. Happy V Fried Chicken
The next best thing after Jollibee, Happy V is quite similar to this fast food chain in terms of food. It also has combo meals such as the Hotdog Sandwich, Spaghetti with Chicken, Burger Steak, and Chicken with Rice.
Interestingly enough, its spaghetti tastes so much like the one from Jollibee. The sauce is sweet and even has hotdog bits in it!
2. Jologs Bistro
Jologs Bistro doesn’t sell your usual burger, fries, and spaghetti. Its menu leans more towards Filipino novelty dishes, which are usually composed of Sinangag (garlic fried rice), egg, and your choice of various meats in marinades.
Aside from these items, it also has a couple of non-rice dishes such as the Pancit (noodles), Crispy Pata (fried pork knuckle), and a variety of Filipino desserts. Usual price for a meal here is about $7 and that includes unlimited drinks.
3. Kabayan
This affordable cafeteria-style restaurant located on the 3rd level of Lucky Plaza mall offers just about anything. Its interior is reminiscent of a typical provincial home with the capiz windows, big and heavy wooden tables and even chairs.
As for the dishes, it serves typical favourites which include Sinigang (Tamarind soup), Pork Adobo, Nilagang Baka (Beef Stew with Clear Broth), and other hotplate dishes. Must-try items here are its various rice cakes.
4. Barrio Fiesta
Fiesta is a Filipino word which means feast. So, you can assume that you can have a hearty feast in this small eatery located at Lucky Plaza. Though the menu here isn’t as extensive as its outlets in the Philippines, you can still get to enjoy classic favourites of pork, chicken, and beef dishes! Do you care for that sour soup called Sinigang? Or perhaps that beef soup, Nilaga?
5. Chicken Inasal
Tucked in a corner of Lucky Plaza is this small eatery, which you can consider as a hidden gem. Its specialty is, of course, chicken. But this is quite different from your usual barbecued or roasted ones, because the way this is cooked is quite different. First of all, it has a unique flavour for it uses different ingredients for its marinade and basting sauce. It is then cooked over hot charcoal, which makes the dish tastier and adds that smokey flavour. Aside from its signature dish, you can also enjoy this with other items, drinks, and desserts from the menu!
