In a few more days, we will be celebrating Singapore’s 48th birthday. And how do we foodies celebrate it? With food, food, and more food! In celebrating National Day, one such destination you can go to for a delectable feast is The Jewel Box at Mount Faber. From 7 to 11 August 2013, you can enjoy value-for-money food & flights at the al fresco Sapphire restaurant there. Go on and indulge yourself in a spread of crabs, prawns, salmon sashimi, foie gras, durian desserts, as well as a wide array of barbequed meats. As an added treat, those born in August 1965 will dine for free. End the night by admiring the night sky while inside the Singapore Cable Car. All buffet diners will pay only $13 (instead of $26) for a joyride around the HarbourFront Precinct. The buffer dinner is from 6:30pm to 10:00pm and is priced at $48++ per adult and $38++ per child between the ages of 3 and 12. Don’t you think that the best way to celebrate Singapore’s birthday is by appreciating local culture? Well, you can always start with food. At Greenhouse, the famed buffet restaurant will highlight 7 Singaporean favourites at the buffet spread for lunch and dinner on 9 August 2013. The following are the Lobster Laksa, Singapore Chilli Alaskan Crab with Mantou Bun, Iberico Pork Char Kway Teow, Singapore Fried Noodles with Scallop and Langoustine, Crayfish Popiah, Fried Carrot Cake, and Ice Jelly with Fresh Fruit and Hasma topped with Champagne. These will be showcased alongside the restaurant’s signature dishes which include crustacean, Asian and Western mains, cheese, and desserts. The National Day buffet lunch is from 12pm to 2.30pm and is priced at $58++ for adults and $29++ for children between 6 and 12 years old. 1-Altitude’s biggest claim to fame is that it’s actually the highest rooftop bar in Singapore - and in the world. Situated on the rooftop of 1 Raffles Place (formerly OUB Centre), guests here get a picture perfect 360-degree view of the whole Marina Bay – including the fireworks display on National Day itself. If you’re planning to celebrate National Day, then take this chance to savour Executive Chef Chris Millar’s Gastronomic Menu at Stellar (its sister restaurant which also boasts an amazing view). There are about 19 items available and some of these are then Hokkaido Scallop, The Bone Marrow, and Truffle Gnocchi. Guests can mix and match the items from this menu, which are enjoyed as a four, five, or six-course meal ($95++, $120++ and $140++). To welcome Singapore’s National Day in a fancier way, head over to Dolce Vita. This Italian restaurant located in Mandarin Oriental will be offering a 5-course menu which consists of Perigord Foie Gras, Seared Hokkaido Scallop, Herbs Crust Atlantic Halibut, and Aged Angus Beef Tenderloin. End the dinner with a special dessert of Fruit of the Forest – made of Passionfruit, Tahitian vanilla and coconut foam. Indulge yourself in this sweet treat as you witness the magical fireworks display by the pool side.
