Score exclusive Ippudo limited edition merchandise! Read on to find out how. Japan’s acclaimed ramen emporium brings its signature noodle dishes to Singapore and one lucky bunch of OpenRicers scored an invite to this exclusive Food Tasting at Ippudo!
Seven OpenRicers attended this Food Tasting session at Ippudo, arguably one of Singapore’s most stylish Japanese restaurants
Founded by Shigemi Kawahara, the famous “Ramen King” of Japan is the man behind this very successful chain of ramen eateries. Today there are 65 Ippudo outlets throughout Japan and international stores can be found in Taiwan, Seoul, Sydney and even New York. “I am thrilled at the opportunity to introduce Singaporeans to the many tastes and flavours of Ippudo’s ramen,” said Kawahara.
Clockwise from top left: Goma Q, Crispy Corn, Beef Tataki, Spicy Shrimp Mayo, Pork Bun
With seven famished OpenRicers and plenty of starters to feast on, our foodies wasted no time in gobbling up the delish morsels, starting with the pretty-looking Goma Q – a creation made from fresh Japanese cucumber topped with sesame seeds. Then came the deep-fried delight, the Spicy Shrimp Mayo served with spicy mayonnaise dip, followed by warm Pork Buns filled with Ippudo’s secret original sauce. After that there was more meat to indulge in, with the Beef Tataki – pan-seared wagyu beef slices served with a twist of tangy citrus yuzu sauce on the side. Last but not least, the Crispy Corn – which was covered in tempura batter and sprinkled with seasoning – was the final starter to finish before the OpenRicers dived into the mains.
Clockwise from top left: Shiromaru Motoaji, Akamaru Shin-aji, Karaka-Men, Yuzu Sherbet
Three ramen creations hogged the limelight this time round. The Shiromaru Motoaji, a classic Hakata-style ramen, is served with Ippudo’s original tonkotsu broth and rosu chashu (pork loin); Akamaru Shin-aji (also with Ippudo’s original tonkotsu broth) is enhanced with special blended miso paste and fragrant garlic oil and comes with buta bara (pork belly); and finally, the Karaka-Men – a spicy version of Ippudo’s original tonkotsu broth with fiery miso and ground pork. Ending things on a sweet note, the OpenRicers helped themselves to a glass of homemade yuzu sherbet with freeze dried strawberries.
