Happy Pi(e) Day: Pies You Must Try

It’s almost Epic Pi Day and we think there’s no better way to celebrate this exceptionally significant occasion other than with our favourite pies from the island! Done in various forms and flavours, they come sweet, savoury, piled with sugar glazed fruits in crusts that either flaky or soft and crumbly. Either way, it’s a beautiful mess. We’ve picked seven for your “pie stops”.

1. Pie Face’s Chunky Steak Pie

With a highly successful run since its grand opening in Singapore a few months back, Pie Face is already on to its third outlet at nex, Serangoon. This will be their first takeaway-only concept. Boasting a wide range of both savoury and sweet pies, they also offer the most affordable and value-for-money pies here. Our pick: Chunky Steak Pie – This little gem houses a golden pot within it. Chunks of tender beef are accompanied by carrots, onions and potatoes in rich and tasty gravy. We also love how the puff pastry is just the right amount of flaky. 2. Windowsill Pies' Grasshopper Pie

Windowsill Pies is a favourite amongst all sweet pie lovers. They not only operate their own café, they also supply to other successful cafes in Singapore such as Penny University. The pies here are also baked daily, so you will get the freshest slices of these dessert pies. Our pick: Grasshopper Pie – It is no wonder that this mint green concoction is a favourite amongst new and returning customers of Windowsill Pies. 3. Oven Marvel’s Chicken Pie

With a range of pastries and muffins in store, Oven Marvel is a perfect place to grab-and-go a little pick-me-up on lazy afternoons. Our pick: Chicken Pie – The flaky puff pastry is accompanied by generous chunks of chicken in a creamy sauced that is filled with peas, corn and carrots. 4. Mulligan’s Steak & Cheese Pie

A well-known Irish pub in Clarke Quay, Mulligan’s is known for serving pub food and beer. However, they also offer a range of savoury pies as dinner mains that are perfect for sharing too. Our pick: Steak & Cheese Pie – The name of this dish is tempting enough. Nothing tastes quite like chunks of steak with cheese that is topped off with a crumbly pie crust. 5. Don’s Signature Chicken Pie

With more than 5 outlets islandwide, Don’s chicken pies are a hit everywhere. Other than their signature pies they also serve sweet treats such as Kueh Lapis. Our pick: Signature Chicken Pie – Despite the other tempting flavours, we still prefer the classic. For just $5.90, you get a bigger-than-average sized pie filled generously with chicken, eggs and potatoes. 6. Winchester Pies’ Shepherd’s Pie

The wafting aroma might just catch your attention while you pass through Pasarbella at the Grandstand. These freshly baked pies only go for $9.90 each and are worth every penny. A reasonable selection of both sweet and savoury pies is available for you to pick from. Our pick: Shepherd’s Pie – One word, addictive. 7. Pies & Coffee’s Wagyu Beef Cheek Pie

If you like to have your pies with freshly-brewed coffee, this is the place to be. Pies & Coffee is a perfect place to relax on a weekend afternoon with your friends. Our pick: Wagyu Beef Cheek Pie – Huge and tender chunks of Wagyu beef is housed inside a perfectly baked pie crust. The pies here also come with a generous dollop of mash potatoes on the side to have with your pie.
