IndoChine Holds Another Successful Wine and <br/>Cheese Event
2013-08-07
Wine, cheese, and the majestic view of Marina Bay atop the highest tree at Supertree Grove - these were just some of the things that the diners got to enjoy when they attended IndoChine’s Wine and Cheese Event on the 31st of July 2013.

For one night only, guests were treated to 6 types of cheese which were sourced from different parts of the world such as Italy and France. IndoChine’s Culinary Executive, Bernard Tan, picked the Grana Padano, Gorgonzola ‘Igor’, French Camembert, French Brie, Saint Paulin, and St. Maure for they were just some of the more popular kinds. For sure, even those who were not cheese connoisseurs would also appreciate their flavours. As for the wines, Steven Lee of Enoteca chose those which could go well with any of the cheeses - Benchmark Grant Burge Semillon Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz, Baron Philippe De Rothschild Sauvignon Blanc, and the Cabernet Sauvignon. For palate cleansers, other small bites such as fruit, raisins, olives, and some crackers were served. As soon as the sun went down, the celebratory mood was created to suit the occasion. Wine bottles were popped open and bartenders became busier serving glasses of these red and white drinks to a mixture of locals and expats. As for the cheese spread, the queue started to form with diners excited to mix and match these with their drinks.

The most popular out of the choices seemed to be the Grana Padano – an Italian hard cheese which tasted a lot like cheddar. It was bursting with flavour especially when matched with the Shiraz. As for the cheese with heavier flavour, such as the blue cheese, full-bodied red wines were the suggested choice of drink as both didn’t overpower each other’s taste.

Soothing music was played all throughout the night to complete IndoChine’s successful Wine and Cheese event. Because of the success of events such as these, Brand Manager Charmaine Choo mentioned that the restaurant group will hold another event real soon – so do keep a look out for the next edition! Tips on paring wine and cheese like a pro If you’re planning to join IndoChine’s next wine and cheese event at SuperTree Dining, here are a few tips to consider:
1. It’s recommended to pair lighter cheeses with lighter wines; and heavier cheese with full-bodied wines. This prevents the wine or the cheese from overpowering each other’s tastes; therefore enhancing both flavours. 2. The more pungent the cheese is, the sweeter the wine paired with it should be. For example, blue cheese will taste best when it’s eaten with sweeter wines such as Moscato. 3. Wine and cheese pairing is really all about preference. There’s no golden rule on which wine should go with this type of cheese or vice versa. The above mentioned are just guidelines which will make your pairing go smoothly.
