Instead of watching your favourite Korean dramas with mouthwatering envy as the main characters dig into buckets of fried chicken paired with bottles of ice cold beer, experience this popular chimaek culture at month-old Chir Chir Fusion Chicken Factory, cooped in the basement of 313@Somerset. A second outlet is already slated to be open at Bedok Point later this month!
Exuding casual vibes, the 78-seater restaurant is designed to resemble a chicken run with adorable eggshell displays, cartoonish illustrations on each wooden chair and buzzers affixed to every table, allowing you to alert the wait-staff easily.
Crispy, Garlicky or Spicy?
What’s unique about Korean fried chicken is its eggshell-thin skin with a generous coat of various marinades. Chir Chir (pronounced 'chi-ruh chi-ruh') imports their sauces from Seoul, keeping that consistency in flavour across all their outlets worldwide.
Have their signature fried chicken whole, as boneless tenders or wings in three flavours available: Crispy, Garlicky and Spicy.
Of the three, the fragrant Garlicky Wings! ($28.90 for 7 pcs) was our favourite. Covered in their house-made soy sauce and minced garlic, the tender wings came with extra fried garlic cloves, roasted sweet potatoes and fried toppoki – though we do prefer the Korean rice cake in its softer state.
Whipped cream specials
Freshly whipped cream makes an appearance atop dishes like Nest Snow ($32.90), where spicy Cajun chicken tenders sit on a bed of sweet potato purée, Honey Grape Salad ($18.90) and their signature tipple, the Chir Cream Beer ($13.90 for 350ml, $18.90 for 650ml) – inspired by a ‘latte kiss’ in the hit Korean drama, Secret Garden.
