Tokyo Sundubu Opens in Suntec City
2016-02-25
It is important to eat healthily, but more often than not, food abundant with nutrients are bland and tasteless. With the unveiling of the iconic restaurant chain, Tokyo Sundubu as one of the seven concepts of Eat at Seven, you won't have to face a conundrum between taste and health whilst deciding on your next meal. First established in Japan with 35 outlets under its brand, Tokyo Sundubu serves over 23 variations of collagen-rich Korean sundubu (stew) and has now extended its reach to our tropical shores. What makes the sundubu so well-received among the Japanese, especially the females, is the huge amount of proteins it is suffused with that help to strengthen body muscles, enhance metabolism as well as its collagen-infused base that is renowned for skin care repair. On top of that, the stew contains no more than 500 calories. With all those health and beauty benefits without any compromise on taste – it comes at no surprise that it is highly raved about! Here's what we tried:
Yuzu Tea
We were first served the refreshing Yuzu Tea ($3.50, pictured) that is essentially a traditional Korean tea infused with the citrus fruit, Yuzu. It is sweet and slightly sour but tastes pleasantly light overall.
Health & Beauty Sundubu
After whetting our appetites with the Yuzu Tea, we were then served the signature Health & Beauty Sundubu ($18, pictured) that came steaming hot with wafts of aromatic smoke percolating the air. The round-shaped collagen was presented separately in a small container for diners to mix into the stew themselves. Comprising of a delectable medley of ingredients such as asari clams, soft and silky handmade tofu, semi-raw egg, minced chicken and collagen soaked in a robust soup, the stew was not too heavy and feels pleasantly soothing to the palate. Tip: Mix the stew well in order to ensure that the raw egg completely blends into the soup. Then, consume the delicious stew together with the complimentary rice and namuru.
Seafood Sundubu
We also had the Seafood Sundubu ($24, pictured) that was rated as the top choice amongst its patrons in Japan. Comprising of five different kinds of seafood including clams, crab and prawns, the stew was extremely flavorful though we would much prefer the Health & Beauty Sundubu. If you are in the vicinity of Suntec City Mall, we would certainly recommend you to reinvigorate your body with the nutritious stews at Tokyo Sundubu!
