Cheese lover would certainly like this bowl of mushroom cheesy baked rice. Generous amount of shredded cheese are topped on the rice which make it really fragrant and delicious. Large slices of the button mushrooms and tender chunky chicken meats are also one of the main ingredients which make this baked rice taste so good. We had once visited Pin Si some months ago and were back again to try the food following the renovation. There were some changes such as the missing red carpet and the noisy Formula One roar from the kitchen.That was ok, but one big change was the menu that had been reduced. Some of the items from the Pre-Reno menu were missing. :(We tried the Fried Kway Teow with cockles and had Hong Kong style coffee as well.Though the Fried kway Teow cost $6.00 a plate for an average-sized portion, it was truly worth it. The Fried Kway Teow brought back memories of the good old days where the fried kway teow experts prepared the dish with skill and precision. I was there with my mum & sister for dinnerWe wanna have new york new york for lunch,but the "pi pa chicken" look niceso decided to go for a try The pi pa chicken for take away was $6 but eat there cost about $9.90 which was quite expensive,the potion was quite a lot,chicken rice was a bit dry,not enough chicken fragrances,chicken was tender but lack of "pi pa" taste & the sauce was abit salty ,We also tried their "sheng mian" that was nice,noodles very crispy,sauces was just nice & the prawns,fish was very fresh & chewy Also must try their milk tea,it was very thick & nice but a bit too expensiveHot one cost $1.90 while cold one cost $2.80Service was just ok,we ordered chicken rice set,noodles,sweet & sour fish,kong ba bun,egg yolk prawn,but the staff only served fork& spoon to me & my sisterusually when we go to cafe,restaurants,even i ordered a small dessert,they will also automatic served extra spoon....but they won't,we asked for twice then they gave it to us,Our total cost about $53++Overall i rate 6/10…Read More

This is a long overdue review. Has got myself a box of lotus paste mooncakes from Pin Si from OpenRice. Well, I must said that this was one of the best lotus mooncakes that i ever tried recently. And their services were really promt and good.I have made a call to reserve my mooncakes, but i was in wrong as i was a little late, didnt make it at the time which i have arranged which was at 6pm. I have arrived around 7pm. And maybe their business was really good, all their lotus mooncakes were fully sold at that time when i arrrived at the restaurant.Realising the situation, Pin Si was quite fast to reponse to offer me to take a seat to have a drink while making arrangement for my mooncakes for the next day collection. Therefore i have left my contact number, hoping that i can collect the mooncakes the next day.Around 8pm, to my surprise i got a call from Pin Si, and they told me they got my mooncakes from the factory and asked for my address as they arranging the mooncakes delivery to be made around 10pm on the very night.Was really delighted for their special arrangement and happy to receive my mooncakes.And to my surprise, their mooncakes tasted really good and fresh. The lotus paste was very smooth and not too sweet. And the skin was very thin and freshly baked which tasted really very nice with the salted egg yolk. Yummy! Mooncake Festival was arriving, and I saw that Openrice was giving away 20 boxes of mooncakes from Pi Si. I heard from many that Pin Si had really nice food, though I have nv eaten there b4 and dunno whether I would like the food there or not. Since I just had to name where Pin Si Restaurant was, and may b able to win a box of their mooncakes, I decided to try my luck and participated. After a few weeks, I received an email frm Openrice, i had won! I was so happy and as the email stated i had to list the date i would like to collect, I replied it fast and was told i could go collect it on that date. However, when i went down with my mum, the staff told me there was no more stock!!! It was a wasted trip down all the way to Ang Mo Kio to collect it frm their cafe and they don't have stock?! My mum was really angry as she was very tired but had just decided to accompany me there. Emailed back Openrice and they helped me call up Pin Si :) , and told me i could go collect again after a few days, & luckily tat day really had stocks.Overall, the mooncake was nice, plus it has egg yolk in it. The mooncakes are also individually wrapped, which is gd as the mooncakes can stay fresh, unlike those which are exposed. However, (dun ask me why) but i like their packaging more. Coming from work, my friend and I didn't want to cook dinner anymore. So, we decided to end our day by eating at Pin Si. Despite having quite a crowd for dinner, I didn't have to wait long for my meal. It was also served really hot, which only meant that it was just cooked as soon as I ordered it. Pin Si unlike those typical Hong kong cafe, but they do have they unique way of style. Over all, i think this place is worth to go. Should pop by and try their food. I have grown up in a traditional family that celebrates all the chinese festivals including the Mid Autumn festival. It has always been mooncakes, chinese tea and lanterns to celebrate it. My grandpa has always been buying the old-fashioned mooncakes like those in lotus paste and mixed nuts. I grown up eating those. When everyone is busy shopping for mooncakes, a particular box of mooncake from Pin Si was presented to me. If you look at my picture, it left only 3, you must be wondering what happened to other one. I shared the missing one with my Grandpa. He said, it has been one of the best white lotus with salted egg yolk he ever tried in his 80 over years of living so far. And, he does not usually eat those with salted egg yolk, he always digged it out and discarded but he ate this particular one with the salted egg yolk! He must have really liked it.After taste it myself, i gotta agreed with Grandpa. Unlike some of the mass produced ones, these mooncakes really stood out. I can clearly taste the lotus flavor of the paste in moist and smooth texture with a thin layer of pastry. And, the egg yolk was creamy and flavorful. The overall sweetness was just right as well. I was very glad to be able to taste Pin Si mooncake at Pin Si Restaurant at Ang Mo Kio Hub.The mooncakes taste very good. The lotus paste taste not too sweet which is good. It tastes heavenly. The egg yolk made it more appetizing. It is a great complement to the aromatic flavor of the lotus filling. I wolfed down two mooncakes at one go. It was very tempting to eat it. The mooncake looks very beautiful. The box of 4 mooncakes costs $44.I also ordered a couple of dishes including sharksfin soup, peking duck and codfish for dinner. It was a great meal with my family. The picture of the Seafood Crispy Fried Noodle looked so appetizing, and so that was what I ordered.Despite having quite a crowd for dinner, I didn't have to wait long for my meal. It was also served really hot, which only meant that it was just cooked as soon as I ordered it. The noodles, which were submerged in their thick sauce, were still crispy. The tseafood ingredients as well as the bok choy were placed on top of the noodles. I would've preferred it to be mixed well with the noodles because I ate the ingredients first before proceeding with the noodles. This Cafe cum Restaurant is tucked in the basement of the Ang Mo Kio Hub.It is quite a small place, so it fills up pretty fast at lunch time.We tried lunch here for the first time yesterday, and we really had a gastronomical feast.Although the place was full, our orders were taken quickly and served very fast.We had the XO Fried Rice, Kai lan, Dry Red Chilli with Chicken and Deep Fried Prawn with Butter Sauce.,The XO Fried Rice was piping hot and a little spicy.This dish is one of Pin Si's signature items and is quite different from other types of fried rice I've had before. It went very well with the other dishes. The Kai Lan was fresh and chewy. The Chicken had cashew nuts and water chesnut seeds as well. The dish was delicious and full of flavour.The Prawns were equally good - the butter cream sauce was thick and enhanced the flavour of the prawns.The only problem was the noise from the exhaust pipes that made the restaurant sound like an F1 racing area!This, together with the music and the noise of the crowd made it quite difficult to have a peaceful lunch. Slurp! Pin Si Kitchen is like a chinese-hong kong style cafe. Their Sliced Fish Hor Fan is a MUST TRY!Fish is so tender and the taste is excellent. Although is a bit salty, but can't get enough of it. Apparently is the best Hor Fan ever. Not to mention, they have another excellent dish as well - indonesian curry prawn, though is a bit costly, at $16 but i think it worth the price, cost the prawn is those huge and fresh kind!Boyfriend tried the baked rice, they serve it in the wooden dim sum basket. It's quite special though, their baked rice taste good too. With tender pork chop and rich cheese topping.Milk tea serve in a very big cup and at an affordable price.
