last month I went Singapore for a business trip. I mentioned to my colleague that I actually have not tried the Bak Kui Teh before. She then bring me to this very authentic restaurant. The name means like this is the founder of the dish. I ask for the most basic one and my friend suggest to order a few more dishes to share. Honestly the taste is much better then I expect. If you wonder why there is a long line at the steps of this restaurant daily and nightly, and if you wonder why so many photographs of celebrities grace the wall of this simple little eatery, well then I suggest you give it a try.I have been to Founder Bak Kut Teh many times, and have tried a lot of other decidedly famous ones over the years as well - but this still reigns as one of my top favorites. That is despite the queue and hurried service. Anyway, tonight the Beau and I graced the restaurant once more.The Beau took the Founder Bak Kut Teh (SGD$8.00) that came with a bowl of white rice. The meat was tender enough, and the soup was piping hot and very tasteful with strong peppery overhaul - perfect for a rainy evening like the one we were enjoying.I selected the Pig's Intestine's Soup (SGD$6.50) with no rice. Rest assured that it would also be served with the same delicious and distinctive white pepper stock soup. The innards were all right - some chewy, some tender, some springy in texture, but all were good.The side dishes such as salted vegetables, braised peanuts, braised eggs etc are all tasty and serve as wonderful accompaniment as well. This is one of the famous bak tuk teh places in Singapore which I like it a lot. My friends and I have ordered 3 bowls of signature founders pork ribs soup, xian cai, 2 servings of you tiao, 2 serving of rice and peanuts and total bill come up to $37 which i find it quite reasonable for the standard of the food.the soup is peppery at to the right extent. not too peppery nor too plain. and the pork ribs meat are tender and nice. xian cai and youtiao taste good too. moreover, the staff are very quick in their service to help you top up the soup.however, do prepare to queue if you are here during peak meal timings.overall, i feel that the standard of the food is worth the wait.…Read More

The FoodI ordered bak kut teh with normal ribs ($6), you tiao ($1.50), pig trotters ($6) and preserved vegetables ($3). If not for the pig trotters, I don't think I will be back to this Bak Kut Teh shop so fast. Since the place open till quite late even during a weekday night, we have no choice but to head over for supper (since my friend is craving for something soupy). I ordered a pig trotter all to myself and thankfully the taste reminds as the last time I visited. The 'fats' (full of collagen) basically melts in your mouth and doesn't have the "foul smell". Disappointed by the drop of standard compare to my previous visit which was more than 6 months ago. Despite the many celebrities photos hanging all around the shop, I guess there's really nothing much to shout out about the food here, except for their pig trotters in black sauce. The soup tasted so peppery and salty, zero taste of the ribs or herbs and I feel like I am drinking just pepper soy sauce soup. As a pork hunter, Bak Kut Teh is one of my favourite food. In Singapore, Bak Kut Teh is normally cooked in pepper-tasted soup, unlike Malaysia, most of the Bak Kut Teh soups are herbal-based.Along the Balestier Road, Founder Bak Kut Teh is the best for me. The place is so famous until we actually queued up 30 minutes for a table for two persons by the road side. Indeed, walls inside the restaurant are filled with the numerous photographs of famous artists, either local or overseas.I prefer the Teochew style, light in color but uses more pepper in the soup. It was decent but peppery, melting my heart everytime I drink. Costed $6.00 per bowl, excluding the rice.Unfortunely, it no longer hot and crispy when it was served. A bit oily for me, they should reheated it before the serving. Costed $1.50 per small bowl.Nothing special for the peanuts, the taste just nice which was not too salty. Costed $2.00 per plate ordered.Never thought the pork ribs not only could look so attractive but also yummy and flavourful. I can say that the quality of braised pork ribs has always been consistent all throughout. Had BKT craving for dinner again! This time my pilgrimmage led me to the famous Founder BKT. The spare ribs soup is white based and peppery - my favourite! :) Spare ribs were tender and I coaxed the meat off its bones with a soft tug of my teeth, super awesome! Also ordered the Kidney soup, another of my favourites, and it didn't disappoint in terms of serving size and quality.Companions and I spammed the side dishes too - apart from the essential youtiao and preserved veg, we got ourselves some pig skin, pig's intestines (braised to perfection), braised peanuts and tang-oh *(i loved the soupy tang-oh!!). This place is great as they open till past midnight. I love to drizzle my entire rice with dark soya sauce and submerged all the you tiao into the soup. I like the taste of the soup as it is really flavourful with a tinge of peppery taste. It is not that spicy and is pretty tolerable for people who can't take spicy stuffs. My sister was craving for bak kut teh in the middle of the night so I drove her and my mum to founder bak kut teh for supper. The bak kut teh taste really good, the soup is very peppery and tasty. It is not too salty and very rich in flavours. The bak kut is very tender and soft, it went well with the chilli black sauce dip. We ordered you tiao and salted vegetable. The you tiao goes really well with the soup, it absorbs the soup and softens. The salted vegetable is really nice, not too salty and goes well with the rice.
