I was pretty near Toa Payoh & I use OpenRice apps to check for any nearby cupcakes that is worth a try, after looking through, I saw fiveone degree which is located opposite SPH building. I would say it's really a hidden gem, the places ain't any centralized area but their cakes & cupcakes get sold out after 8-9pm. Pretty good cupcakes you can find. The cupcake flavours would give you a headache because every single cupcake looks good and it's very tempting to get all of them. So I started with Chocolate cream cheese, pretty unique as all of us know the popular flavour which almost have the same concept, "Red Velvet"! Personally, moist sponge is my preference however, fiveone degree cupcakes are moist just a little but the cream cheese itself bring the flavour out. They're very generous with the toppings too!I feel that, it's worth the try though! continue reading

I wasn’t ready to get a full box of 6, so I asked to taste 1 first and picked the lemon earl grey flavor. It was definitely a treat biting into the soft and moist cupcake. The bakery definitely did not scrimp on the lemon frosting by packing even more of it within the cupcakes! With that, I had to grab more cupcakes home to feed the rest of the family! The Dark Chocolate Earl Grey cupcake is another recommended flavor which I had managed to get my hands on and it is simply divine! The crumbly bits on top the chocolate earl grey base definitely added some texture to the cupcake and makes it quite a pretty sight! In comparison to the other commercially available cupcakes, 51 fiveone Degree would be my choice. The rest of the flavors like salted caramel also received the thumbs up from my family, a rarity considering how picky they are about their food. I will head down soon to grab a block of their pandan chiffon cakes which is one of their signature items and gets sold out quickly!Do visit RoundTumTums.com for more updates on new foodie places! continue reading

How do actually define a great cupcake? I found fabulous cupcakes sold at Toa Payoh. The quantity of cupcakes made was limited every day, it subjected to availability especially their signature cupcakes. Light and fluffy cupcakes with different kind of flavours, I like the caramel cupcake the most. Both of them were light and fluffy, they were colourful and tasty. I knew it was exaggerated, but I really missed them badly. I will buy it again, costed $3.00 and above for each cupcake. continue reading

The bakery is near the MRT, under a rather old HDB housing block. As this bakery is most famous for its cupcakes, I decides to get myself a piece.Goodie Gold ($3.50)The cupcake tastes average. The interesting part about this cupcake is that it has a cube block of chocolate in the centre of the cake. I still feel the price is a bit over top, based on the food and location. continue reading

51 degree bakery has pretty good pastries. I tried their tarts and felt they were worth it for the price. I had the lemon meringue tart which tangy and sweet at the same time with a fluffy soft meringue topping that was nicely browned. The lemon curd was smooth and had strips of zest in it, while the crust was buttery and cookie like. Overall a good deal for the price. continue reading
