Was very much attracted by its tartar sauce the previous time I patronized this stall and thus, I'm back for its Fish & Chips. For a plate of $6 Fish & Chips, there's two piece of fish, garlic bread, baked beans, coleslaw, french fries and of course, its famous fruits tartar sauce. The fish is fried till golden crispy, outer batter is very crispy while the fish inside is very soft, suitable for all ages. The garlic bread was toasted lightly and the garlic smell and taste is very fragrance, really good. As for the baked beans and coleslaw, quite normal. The french fries is very crispy as well, much better as compared to other western food stalls. Its fruit tartar sauce is actually the killer. When accompanied with the fish or french fries, it gives a unique sour yet sweet taste. It goes well with the garlic bread as well. Other than Fish & Chips, they do serve dishes like Chicken Chop, Chicken Cutlet and even Siziling hot-plates as well. The price ranges from $5.00 to $10.00, which is very reasonable for the portion and quality of the food. Worth a try when you're in the vicinity. continue reading

5 Star Corner is a western stall in Hougang Central that sells hotplates, chicken chops, steaks etc, which is very typical of most western places located in coffee shops and food courts before names like Aston’s Express, Lava Rock and Char Grill Bar became familiar to us. I also noticed quite a number of people who were dining there were having western food too.I ordered the Chicken Chop ($5.00). The chicken was tender and juicy and was easy to cut. The skin was also crispy. The French fries were thin but fried golden, nicely salted and crispy. However it lacked the fluff of potatoes, partially due to its size. The garlic bread is freshly sliced and spreaded with garlic spread by the staff, though I would have preferred it to have a stronger taste of garlic. The coleslaw was a bit of a letdown being lukewarm though. For the full review and more photos, please visit: http://jiaksimipng.wordpress.com/2013/03/19/5-star-corner-blk-805-hougang-central/ continue reading

This Coffee Shop is hidden at an extreme end of Hougang Central. Not being to there for a long while, but I know their western food is good.So after buying books for my son, we travel down to the store for lunch.Shared with my girl their Black Pepper Steak and my hubby tried their Black Pepper Pork Chop.It come with Bake Potato, beans, a garlic bread and some mixed vege. The sauces are generous but spicy, is what we like but too spicy for my girl. Both meat are tenderly cooked not rubberly at all.Meat portion is big too.The Steak is S$10.50 and Pork is S$8.50They are selling normal plate steak and other western food as low as S$5.50 but serve with fries instead of bake potato. continue reading
