There are a few famous confectioneries around Balestier area and one of them is 603 Balestier! It is located at the other end of the famous Loong Fatt along a row of shophouses facing the road. They sell the most extensive range of tau sar piahs I've come across so far, such as durian, yam filling etc. As this is my first time here, I decided to buy the normal traditional sweet/salty ones. My family loves the salty variant and I bought home a box! I had them the next day and they still tasted good! The filling is thick and the taste is perfect! One of the best in Singapore thus far! continue reading

Stop by Balestier Rd on Sunday to get tau sar piah but the shop was closed. So I walked down a few shops away to 603 instead. There are various fillings available- pineapple, lotus and others like lao po bing, log cakes, etc. Bought a box of 10 pcs with a mix of salted and sweet ones. It costs me six bucks. They are kept warm which I felt on my lap. The tau sar are full, smaller piah but taller if one goes for the filling. Actually, I prefer the salted one which has a fragrance rushing in on its 1st bite. The sweet one has sesame on it. It melts in your mouth when eaten warm and the taste and quality retained on the next day eating. continue reading

Whenever I drive pass Balestier, my wife would ask if I can stop by 603 Tao Sar Piah to buy some for our family. Their Tao Sar Piah is very fresh and it is always warm when you eat it immediately. We will always but a mix of sweet and salty ones. The pastry is not hard and the filling is just the right proportion. When you sink your teeth into it, be assured that you will have both the pastry and the fillings in your mouth. The moment is just priceless. It only cost 70 cents each.. continue reading

Along the whole stretch of Balestier Road there are numerous bakery selling Tau Sar Piah. Besides the classic salty and sweet Tau Sar Piah, 603 Tau Sar Piah offers different assortment of flavors including unique flavors such as coffee and durian. Between classic salty and sweet Tau Sar Piah, I prefer their sweet Tau Sar Piah. The sweet lotus bean paste together with the buttery flakey pastry is a perfect combination. The Tau Sar Piah retains its quality even after a few days. That’s why it’s one of my favorite pastry. continue reading

This shop had been there for very long. My family just happen to drove past that area and decided to get tau sar piah as we really love it many years ago. This shop sell a lot of flavours for the tau sar piah, like green tea, coffee, durian, etc, unlike the usual ones which only have salty and sweet. They have label on the tau sar piah itself so even if you takeaway with the mix flavours, you do not have to worry not being able to differentiate among the flavours. Different flavours have different prices, but it varies from 60cents to $1 each. However, i feel that they have lost the traditional taste as the fillings inside were very hard and the crust was not as crispy as before. The standard has dropped drastically from few years back and it does not taste as nice as before.I really miss their traditional and original taste which i tasted a few years back from their shop. continue reading
