My first experience with Crystal Jade was in Hong Kong, Taikoo Shing, almost 20 years ago, the first time they opened up a shop.  I was very impressed by the quality of the noodle and Xiao Long Bao.  For 20 years I can see its success, expansion, acquisition by LVMH, Michelin.  But I also see the fast deterioration of the quality.  First the Xiao Lung Bao, it is perhaps the second best in the past behind Din Tai Feng.  Now now the skin is no longer non-burstable.Dan Dan noodle is also my favorite, the noodle is still hand-made, I believe, but the soup is just not 'elegant' no more.  In the past, the balance of sesame paste, vinegar, and chili oil is in good balance.  Now?  either too thick or too something.....no longer in balance.I must say I am no longer a fan of Crystal Jade and indeed I will avoid it if possible. There is another good similar restaurant serving similar noodle and Xiao Lung Bao, and this becomes my second best Xiao Lung Bao after Din Tai Feng........ continue reading

See my full reviews & photos at = http://chefquak.com/2015/01/12/nice-light-lunch-crystaljade-lamian-xiaolongbao-hollandv-on-11jan2015/went for a light lunch with wife & daughter @ crystal jade lamian xiaolongbao at hollandv yesterday on 11.1.2015.we ordered the usual xiaolongbao 小笼包. it was good as usual – great soup & tasty fillings, skin that held together & not thick. we added a second order later. ^^ordered the other favourite spicy dumplings 抄手 too. today this was not too good. the sauce seemed dilute, overall not flavourful enough & not as attractive as canton paradise.spicy chicken 口水鸡 was good as always. i enjoy this dish everytime. ^^soemthing new for me was the beef brisket ramen 牛腩拉面. happy to note that this was much better than i expected. the beef brisket 牛腩 was really good. there was a bit of beef tendon as well.this my daughter’s favourite. i didn’t think it was better than that served in sicc though. i used the spicy sauce from the spicy chicken 口水鸡 & the noodles were really nice & flavourful with the sauce.a relax lunch on a quiet sunday. continue reading

Have been hearing about this Crystal Jade branch which serves free flow original XLB from friends for years and I only got to try it for the first time this year! The steamboat offers pork, beef and lamb slices with more pork slice variety (collar or belly), seafood and a selection of mushrooms. The only downside about the place is that it is really crowded and the service is not that good. Though the steamboat is slightly more expensive as compared to the steamboats outside the XLB made it worth it continue reading

This poached la mian tastes good with the fragrance of the onion and compliments well with the light soya sauce added into it. However, it's abit plain as there are no more other ingredient besides onion. The skin of their Xiao Long Bao is a little thin such that it breaks easily when being taken up from the steamed basket, though it tastes good enough. Lunch Set Menu - Dim Sum + Noodle + Beverage = $8.80 nett.Overall, this lunch is quite value for money at a price of only $8.80. However, the environment is quite noisy during lunch time and it's like dining in a high class food court. On a second thought, what's there more to ask for when it cost only $8.80 for a 3 course set lunch? continue reading

The Crystal Jade restaurant is located near to Holland food center and there are 2 levels in total for customer to have their meals at the restaurant. The restaurant is quite crowded and there are not much walking space for customer to walk around to get their sauce (Which is placed at one corner of the restaurant) or to go to the washroom. As this is a steamboat buffet, the kitchen provide only those cooked dishes like La Main and etc which is not included in the buffet menu. Anyway, a look at the menu shows that they served quite a lot of variety of steamboat items which shows why there are so many people having their meals over there.Sauce corner where you can mix and match your own sauce for your dishes. The prawns are big and fresh but too bad, they are just one time serving of 2 stick per customer. The skin of the xiao long bao is quite thick and dry which is not really nice but the juice from the steam meat is not bad to eat.Not very nice in feel though there was still a bit of sweet Osmanthus smell after taste. This is really sago with coconut milk type of dessert. There is a strong coconut taste and if you do not like coconut taste, you can forgo this dessert totally. I actually thought there are at least some fruits like melon and etc to enhance the overall taste. continue reading
