Introduction
Dian Xiao Er originates from the traditional way of calling waiter “Xiao Er” in a teahouse, who is the brainchild of combining herbs with roast duck meat. It symbolizes a pit-stop for travellers (customers) to rest and replenish their energy fully before setting off to continue their hectic journeys again. The ambience at Dian Xiao Er is thus intentionally planned to be rustic and raw, providing a unique inn-dining experience with the careful selection of materials. This complements the freshness of our Signature Herbal Roast Ducks, prepared and roasted in the display kitchen daily. Customers can expect to experience a choice of dining ambience varying from dining inside a traditional Chinese courtyard to dining inside a rustic timber shed at the foot of a stone cliff. Dian Xiao Er not only provides to the travellers a place of warmth, satisfaction and happiness as they indulge in the delectable dishes, it is also a place for them to interact and build relationships with one another. Dian Xiao Er also symbolizes an element of blessing and fellowship as everyone is brought together in Dian Xiao Er over a hearty meal. continue reading

My dad is back from Shanghai and we are going to Airport to pick him up. Since it is dinner time, we decide to go to Dian Xiao Er at Terminal 3 level 3 for our dinner. I like the herbal duck here, the skin is crispy and the duck meat is tender and soft. They have 3 kind of herbal duck to choose from. 1) Duck roasted with Angelica Herb, 2) Duck roasted with 10 wonder Herb and 3) Duck roasted with Wild Ginseng. We prefer the duck roasted with Angelica Herb ($35.90 for large size), the sauce and the duck has strong taste of the angelica herb and is so nice to go with white rice too.Sweet and Sour Pork ($17.60), the sweet and sour pork here is alright, the pork is still slightly crispy after it is cooked with the sweet and sour sauce. Their sweet and sour sauce has well balanced taste of sweet and sour.Chinese Spinach ($24.30), the soup that is cooked with the vegetable is nice and tasty. Most importantly, it is not too salty.Fish Maw Soup ($33.60), this is my favourite dish in Dian Xiao Er, the soup is thick, sweet and has generous servings of fish maw and shredded chicken. I like to add vinegar and pepper into my soup.Baby Kai Lan ($18.90), the vegetable is not overcooked and is nice.Fried Shrimp Egg ($21.60), normal, nothing much to rave. continue reading

If you really dunno where to eat after you pick up a person from the airport, I recommend to go to Dian Xiao Er. At first I didn't know that they have some nice food here, but since I'm quite bored with the restaurants available at departure halls, I head to this place and found that I should try and come again some other times. It was quite overwhelming when 2 persons eating 3 dished here. hahaha... As per recommended by the waiter & the menu also recommends this dish as their signature dish, we ordered Roasted Duck with Ten Wonder Herbs, followed by Mongolian Spare Ribs & Wheatgrass Tofu. As expected, the Roasted Duck tasted really brilliant. the roasted duck blends well with the herb sauce. Mongolian Spare Ribs was a bit spicy for me but taste quite nice, a little bit too hard to chew for me tho. Wheatgrass Tofu was a very interesting dish name to try, but the taste is just almost the same as spinach tofu sold in other restaurants.Service was quite fast and quite pleasant. We didn't queue for a long time, despite the small place provided there. Price is still affordable and worth to try. I will definitely go again for the roasted duck. continue reading

Dian Xiao Er, as many know it, is famous for its herbal duck. The gravy is neither too sweet nor salty, just right, and goes very well with a bowl of plain rice. The smallest portion for the herbal duck is sufficient for 2, but a big eater would be able to finish it easily. The duck meat was not too tough, and well marinated. Didn't quite like the layer of fats beneath the skin though, but the skin was crispy. Service on a Sunday at the Changi Airport branch was horrible, long queue, took too long to serve drinks and food. continue reading

Went to airport to farewell for my friend as she was going to fly to Japan to do her attachment. We had decided to organize the farewell at Dian Xiao Er(DXE) as she is going to stay at Japan for 3 months and all of us think that she will be missing the Chinese cuisine as in Japan it is hardly to find a local, cheap and delicious Chinese restaurant. We had order two set of dinner set. One set A dinner for 4 person and one Healthy set dinner for 5 person. We had total of 9 person. As we want to try more variety of dishes, we decided to go for two set dinner instead of order one set dinner for 9 person. The difference is that the portion offered is smaller for both of the dinner set but we had the chances to try more variety of dishes. We had tried the ten wonder roasted duck. This dish is the main signature dish from DXE. It really did tasted nice. I like the roasted duck. It was tender and it smell very nice with the herbs marinated onto it. There are three sauce for the roasted duck. One of them is the ten wonder which is what we ordered, this sauce is more chef recommended as it is the sweetest among the three sauce and the herbs fragrance is not that strong compare to the rest. This sauce is more suitable for some of the customer and children who don't like and cannot withstand with the taste of the strong herbs. We had ordered the wheat tofu. This wheat tofu is made by the restaurant themselves. The wheat tofu is fried then it is served with sauce together with broccoli, some seafood and veggie. This dish is also chef recommended as the wheat tofu is a more healthy choice for city people who lead a busy lifestyle. The saltiness was just nice for me and i like the tofu. The tofu had a crispy outer skin with a very fine soft texture for the inner flash. This dish name is baby kailan. The kailan is fried with chilies and green lime and thus the dish has a very unique taste. It tasted sour and spicy at the same time. The veggie was very fresh and well-cooked. The taste of sour and spicy was just nice for me. It tasted very "harmony" together with the veggie and the sauce. I like it very much. This dish called dong po rou. I think this dish was just normal for me. The pork was a little bit oily for me. But still ok for overall. The sauce was a little bit too oily and cold for me as it cool down very fast. For the healthy dinner set, they had herbal jelly as dessert. The herbal jelly tasted normal, nothing special to impress me. And the syrup offered is just melted white sugar instead of honey. I don't like it.Will visit DXE again as i want to try others food. continue reading

Went to have dinner at airport yesterday which we decided to go Dian Xiao Er as basically we miss eating the signature dish. DUCK !!! We order a medium duck cook with 10 herb, definitely duck was kinda superb but don't like the herb taste as i prefer the angelica herbal. Order the chinese spinach, golden tofu and the chicken which i don't like the sweet taste. The pork belly was kinda nice which was a big portion. Will go back again to have the duck again. continue reading
