I first tried the food at Hot Tomato in Causeway Point a few years back. I was impressed with the pricing and quality of the food. Hence, I brought my colleagues to try their set lunch at their Star Vista branch.Hot Tomato brands themselves as a place to embrace the happiness that comes with good food. It is a casual western dining place i.e. a place to please your stomach and wallet! For Set Lunch, you can cherry pick the main course from the food menu. Suggest you opt for the "adds on" which is either $2.50 or $3.50 as it is quite worth it.For Lunch Express, add $2.50++ to any main course to get daily soup + drink (weekdays only from 11am to 3pm) and exclude PH.For All Day upgrades, add $3.50++ to any main course to get daily soup + drink (weekdays 3pm to 10.30pm) (weekends 11am to 10.30pm).Recommended Main CourseUsually, I will opt for either one of the below mentioned main course. However, they have a lot of different choices, depending on your personal preference.Fish & ChipsAt S$8.90, you will get Fish & Chips served with french fries, tartare sauce and served with salsa and crispy romaine lecttuce and small cherry tomatoes. The fish portion served was huge (see photo) and fresh! I like the fact that the batter was not too thick and hence you still retain a crunchy bite. The french fries were standard and nothing exceptional but decent. The small cherry tomatoes compliment the dory fish!Rotisserie Chicken Rosemary (half)At S$9.90, you will get one-half of a baby chicken, marinated with fresh herbs, lemon and olive oil, served with creamy mash potato and pepper gravy. The portion served was quite generous (even though it was one-half) and the chicken was well marinated and cooked appropriately. You get some thigh and breast meat for half a baby chicken. If you want a quick fix for a value for money meal, you can come to Hot Tomato! Beside the food, the service was alright and you do not have to wait long for the food (weekday). continue reading

Hot Tomato? Is the shop filled with tomato theme? Let's check it out.It was rather unusual or rare to see business that is guide dog friendly and Hot Tomato is just one of them. The number of seating in their outlet was rather limited and just before us, they had a reservation for a table of 13 and we had waited about 10 minutes before the table was ready for us. Perhaps we have to blame it on Friday. Fore ceilings in the restaurant has an interesting design with red cove lights. If you notice, it was illustrated with the outline of a tomato. On top of that the use of track lights on the ceiling had also did a good brightening up of the environment making a comfortable dining experience.Ordered 2 main courses for myself and my partner. Our set meals were all upgraded with soup, drink and garlic bread at additional cost of S$3.50.The additional Add-Ons were served first to fill our stomach while waiting for the main courses. Mushroom soup was thick and quite chunky with the mini chopped mushrooms, paired with crunchy oven baked garlic toasts. Drinks ordered were Ice Lemon Tea and Lime Juice and were not that sweet.Steak & Prawn The must try dishes on menu, a perfect pairing of sizzling steak and juicy prawn. Steak was well-cooked to perfect medium well doneness as requested accompanied by mushroom sauce in a saucer. The pair of grilled striking orange prawns, greens, and yellow spaghetti lifts the entire dish up with a eye catching presentation under the nice lighting.Cost: S$13.50Mix GrillA trio combination of Bratwurst Sausage , chicken and pork chop. Greens, spaghetti and sauce were provided in the dish, similar to the Steak & Prawn dish ordered. Grilled pork chop was thick in size, juicy with criss-cross burnt marks on it whereas chicken chop was its opposite, dry and color was dark brown with skin, looking abit burned whereas the bratwurst tastes pretty normal.Cost: S$13.50Overall from the 2 main courses order, I would say the standard and service observed was on the average scale. Do also look out for ongoing promotional Rates for set meal and upgrade base on specific timings to enjoy dishes worth of value. continue reading

We were here for a birthday celebration needing a table for 8 adults and 2 babies. The restaurant has enough space to cater for us. We are not the quietest bunch but the cafe did not give us "face" to see. I had this salmon and olive rice. Yummy treats for tummy. In addition, we tried their tiramisu which i find decent enough. We enjoyed the gathering there on a Sunday lunch. The restaurant has a loyalty card program too. Check out the restaurant ceiling . continue reading

Hot Tomato needs no introduction as as it has been around for a long while. Widely known as a casual Western dining restaurant, the ambiance is very relaxing and it's perfect for family and friends to gather for a hearty no-frills meal to fill the hungry stomachs.I was there on a weekend lunch and although the restaurant was almost filled with families, the service staff was very attentive and friendly, greeting me with a smile and showed me to my seat. I would say the service was impeccable for such a casual and inexpensive casual food establishment.Coming to the food, I had Fish & Chips ($8.50) which was served with a generous amount of chips and romaine salad. No complaints about the dory fish as the egg batter was nicely prepared, forming a light crust around the milky, moist and delicate fish meat. With a squeeze of the lemon and tartar sauce, it was perfect! One thing I note is that they do add salt to their fries, perfect for those who are health conscious. *Plus points!!!*With an additional $3.50, there's a choice to top up each combo with a Soup of the Day, Drinks and Garlic Bread Set. It was great value as the Hot Tomato Soup was very appetizing and garlic bread were toasted to golden crisp perfection. My friend had the Teriyaki Chicken Chop ($8.50) which again, had a generous and huge portion of succulent slice of chicken chop accompanied with Aglio Olio and salad. Although the sauce may seem a lot, it wasn't too salty or overpowering and has a tinge of black pepper to enhance its flavour. They do not serve ice-water so you have to top up 20 cents for it. Overall the food, service and ambiance was great considering the affordable food they serve here. This is definitely one of the place worth the visit if you're craving for great value casual Western dining! continue reading

Went to hot tomato for lunch with my friends on a weekday. The place was quite cosy and it was not really crowded. Ordered the grilled dory fish Grilled dory fish with aglio olio. The food was served quite fast! Personally, i feel that the fish was average but the skin was quite crispy. Their aglio olio was not bad as it was not very oily as compared to other places. Overall, the food was affordable and pretty nice Recommended and worth a try! continue reading
