Signature Dishes
Lunched at Ah Yat Restaurant at The Village, located next to Jurong Bird Park. Was on a weekday and was rather crowded. Waited for around 10 minutes for the first dish to be served. Liked the fish skin as it was very crispy. The carrot cake was one of my favourites. Also had Shanghai dumplings and a few other dishes.Service was rather inefficient due to peak hours. Ambience was nice. Overall, I liked most of the food but the meal was expensive and servings were small.

I bought groupon voucher for SGD198 for 10 pax set lunch. However, I saw the promotion in front of the restaurant itself which require no booking or reservation. Maybe due to the public holiday, the restaurant was full of people. Most of them had dim sum instead of the Chinese tze char dishes. The set lunch we had was average. Despite that, the steamed egg cake impressed me. It is not usual ma lai gou which other dim sum place offered, but it's a type of egg cake will corn filling layer in between. The texture is smooth and moist which perfect to end my meal.

Some time back, I went with my relatives to Ah Yat for chinese food. We had ordered quite a number of dishes since there are a total of 8 of us. The service was just alright as it was a weekend and there are quite a lot of other customers in the restaurant which slowed down the service a bit. Since they had promotion on the peking duck, we decided to order it. The peking duck was just normal in my opinion. There is still quite a fair bit of fats on the skin of the duck which made it more greasy than crisp. The dipping sauce for the peking duck is good though, but it is a pity that the chef did not slice the skin more skillfully. The other dishes like the french beans, steamed fish, and fried chicken are just normal tasting. One dish which I found particularly memorable was the fried silver fish. It is actually our appetitiser and it is really addictive popping one after another into my mouth. The whole table liked it so much, we ordered a total of 3 plates of this appetitiser. Overall, the food is average and I will advise against ordering the peking duck if it is not on promotion since the standard is not really there.

Time to fill up our stomach before we start our prawning session at the village! This place is big and spacious with plenty of seats, glad we didn’t have to queue despite no reservations. The staff was speedy and attentive. Things were done in an orderly manner. As we ordered assorted dim sum, Buttery tart shell with silky egg custard, crispy crunch on the tart, and the soft textured eggs were great.Chee cheong fun was springy and mellowHar Gow skin was abit too thickHot char siew bun was fluffy and comforting to munch on.The rest was average, forgettable. Was more looking forward to the next dish..Until lastly my favorite is their Xiao Long Bao, very meaty and tasty. The skin thickness is just right and well folded so pretty.

The pork ribs here at Ah Yat is really delicious as the pork rib is covered with honey and the pork is sweet tto the taste. the pork rib is also not too fatty and the meat is really tender. love the combination of the sauce and the pork and the whole dish was just so flavorful and deliccious.would have no problem going for second helpings if there were more to spare!!! fried rice with silver fish was also really good as the rice was aromatic and so delicious with or without the addition of green chilli.
