I had my new year's eve dinner at Ambush Junction 8. Unlike Christmas eve, this time restaurants were not really packed, we didn't need to be on the waiting list to get the seat. However, some menus don't have the photo on the menu book (the menu book resembles a magazine btw), thus we had to guess how it would look like, and for some, we really had no idea what the hell they were. Pan Seared Salmon & French Lentils - $18.50
The salmon fillet was big and tender. The creamy sauce was delicious as well and had pancetta (Italian pork belly bacon) bits in it. Presentation wise, visually pretty.

Sausage Plate - $14.90
with Cheese Knacker sausages, potato rosti, and saeurkraut
This menu allows you to choose 1 kind of sausage (out of 4: Cheese Knacker, Bockwurst, French Chicken Garlic, and the other one which I forget haha) and 1 kind of starch (out of 4: potato rosti, potato puree, fries, and pasta). The rosti was decent, it was crispy on the outer part and not too oily. I'm not really fond of sour cream, so I skipped it. Thumbs up for the sausage. The cheese bits oozed out as I cut the sausage. The sausage was quite big in size and juicy, no complain from me.

Overall, it was a nice final meal of 2014. Finally, I would like to say happy new year 2015! Wish you all had a great time in 2014 and look forward to a much better life in 2015.

I got the set lunch, which comes with a Soup of the Day, a Main and a Drink.

Soup of the day was Cream of Corn, and it was the soup that's the highlight of the whole meal... Soup was comforting to drink, add in pepper for a spicy kick. There were some corn kernels in the soup too, for added crunch. I liked the soup.

Moving on to the Vongole, the wine base was too overpowering. It felt like I was "eating" a very strong alcoholic drink. Linguine could have been a little softer. If I would want to eat vongole, I will go to Peperoni Pizzeria instead, where they are more generous with the pasta and venus clams. Also, their white wine base is done to perfection.

I chose the Iced Lemon Tea for my drink, don't bother getting it because it's not sweet, despite adding sugar syrup in it.

Doubt I'll be back anytime soon, given that there are so many other better food establishments serving better pastas. Even the pastas at Pizza Hut are better than Ambush, in my opinion.

For the pasta you could choose the type of pasta you wanted- linguine, spaghetti or penne. I chose spaghetti. The fish roe didn't had much taste. The sauce was quite bland, not really creamy and had a strong seafood taste(not really nice). However after adding salt and pepper, it tasted a whole lot better.

Swedish Meatballs with Chips, $8.80
Even though this was only a starter, it was the dish which I enjoyed most. The fries and the meatballs were extremely flavourful and amazing. Must try!

Recommend everyone give this place a try, prices are decent and worthwhile! I am looking forward to try the rest of the dishes on the menu soon

I have been to Ambush a few times and I do feel that their Paella is best out of all their mains. This time I tried Marinera Paella ($13.20) and it did not disappoint. The Paelle came with generous portion of Seafood like Mussel, prawns and scallop, and the Paella soaked up all the tomato flavour. Every mouthful is delicious!

And lastly, this is a must order for me every time I come Ambush - Clam Pot ($13.80) with Vinc Blanc & Smoked Streaky Bacon sauce. The pot is delicious on it's own, but if you add some salt to it, the flavour totally gets enchanced and becomes more fragrant and yummy! I actually found out about this accidentally when I dipped my fries into the pot for extra flavour and I'm glad I did!

So far I've only been the outlet at Bishan and the place is usually not very crowded thus making it a great place to hang out and have a catch up session with your friends!

No biasness, I just cannot accept its black colour although I knew it was squid ink sauce. For today, I decided to give it a chance. I bravely to take adventure to eat it, my whole mouth and lips became black while eating. To be frank, it was super nice in taste but it was very ugly to have black teeth and tongue. The pasta texture was still the same, I like its gravy full of seafood fragrant. Portion wise, it was enough and fair. Normal price range, it was $14.80.

We placed our orders and the serving was within 20 minutes time. My friend ordered Paella seafood @S$14.80. It’s one of the Spanish paellas choice which served western fried rice. Served with fresh seafoods such as mussels, squids, shelled marine and tomato sauce gives the sweetness taste of the main course.

The staff is attentive to customers’ needs and they are friendly polite too. Fast-paced service and the turnover operation was quite fast. It can be one of the option for casual European dinning with a bunch of friends.

This was a dinner choice for a casual night with some friends and I'm glad I made the decision to book prior - was surprised there was a wait for table on a weekday evening!

The usual Ambush styple for deco but slightly different from its Plaza Sing outlet - casual vibes and wooden furnitutre.

German style potato pancake (rosti) ($7.50) - I liked this as its plain and simple but some commented that it was too thin.

Mini sausage platter ($8.80) - grilled mini chicken garlic and chicken cheese sausage with mustard and brown sauce dip - Good for sharing (and with some beer!) - the sausages were nicely warm from the grilling and goes very well with the mild mustard.

Baby scallop and flying fish roe - squid ink sauce ($14.80) - My main course which I struggled to finish. Plenty of fresh scallops with a heap of linguini which was just nicely al dente for me. Squid ink itself doesnt have any taste but I choose to believe it was healthy - which I read somewhere...but not a good dish for a date!

Crispy chicken and seaweed - alio olio ambush style ($13) - Very good - so much so I wish I had ordered this. The ambush style alio olio was very tasty with mild spicy seasoning, the chicken was not oily and the seaweed sprinkled over the top added a nice taste to the whole dish. Big porton too.

Paella seafood ($14.80) - Slightly disappointing after the excellent pasta dishes. While the seafood was fresh and quite a generous portion, the rice was too soggy for my liking and the tomato sauce tasted just medicore.

Cauliflower soup & ice tea ($5.50) - You can add this to any main course, but I'll advise against it if you get Cauliflower soup like us. No hint of the veg at all - basically we can only tell it's a cream soup, that's all.

Service was quite prompt despite us sitting in a corner. Wil definitley return for their mussels next time!

I would always prefer Ambush over other food establishments as service is usually good, and they have a variety of food choices at reasonable prices. I really liked their rosti, which costs $7.50. It is crispy thin and pan fried till golden brown, and goes well with the sour cream sauce; good for 3 to share but it would surely be a favourite amongst everyone. I also had the salmon pasta with thai basil sauce, which costs $13+. Very appetizing and salmon is fresh.

It isn't my first visit at Ambush, my first time was at Jurong Point's outlet and it was a pretty good - didn't think much about it sort of experience because at that time I haven't dealt much with bad pastas to appreciate how good it is.

I like the wood-based layout of all their outlets, having been physically there at Jurong Point's and Plaza Sing's and now Junction 8's outlets. It gives me a very clean, cozy and comfortable feeling, a perfect setting to eat comfort food. You can also find Ambush at the basement of Takashimaya and a newly opened, glitzy branch at JEM.

Their menu is in the form of an Ambush newspaper; I was so fascinated the first time I saw it! Salad selections include Salmon Belly ($10.20), Duck Confit ($10.80) and Parma Ham & Pineapple ($10.80). You can have Appetizers that range from $3.20 to $8.80.

What you see is what you pay.

My favourite section of the menu and thus the zoom-in focus:

Bacon & Ham Cream Sauce - $11.20: This was what I ordered the first time I went, a little heavy on the palate as usual just like most cream pastas, but not so much that I wasn't able to finish it. Very much less jelat than Raindrops Cafe's version, which was too heavy to be finished in one seating.

Tiger Prawn & Bacon - Garlic Butter & Pine Nuts - $13.20: This is officially my favourite pasta ever. Beef bolognaise will always be my comfort pasta food but THIS has won my heart and stomach over completely with its mouthwatering pasta combination. A slight garlic buttery sheen over the spaghetti noodles and the peeled (Oh, the number one tip to convince a lazy eater to eat prawns) lovely fresh juicy yummy prawns had me wolfing it down my throat at record speed. It's two thumbs up from me. I swear this dish can single-handedly bring me back to Ambush repeatedly. You know it's good when I think I can finish two portions at one go.

The icing to the cake of this experience was the excellent service staff who were attentive, entertaining and really friendly despite having almost a full house that day. A stamp of quality and reassurance for a good, fuss-free dinner place.

Clam & Mussel Pot is a major love! We ordered the pot with Vinc Blanc & Smoked Streaky Bacon for cooking style and it so nice! Mussels if not fresh or prepared properly will sometimes have these fishy taste but these doesnt have that at all!

And although I think the soupy sauce is not meant to be drank directly (abit salty) but I cant help but take sips after sips. So delicious!

Definitely recommend the Clam & Mussel pot (you can take clam only if you dont want mussels), but not the aglio olio!

So I had dinner at Ambush, Bishan. I ordered the pasta with chicken. And the chicken was really good. It was tasty, crunchy, crispy. For the pasta, well it was too bland. I had too add a bit of salt and pepper just so I can taste something. I was quite disappointed... it looked so good in photo.
