Ann Chin Poh Piah is known for its handmade delicacies - Poh Piah and had quite a long history. Its hard to come across hawkers that are going through the long process producing the thin layer of Poh Piah skin painstakingly by hand on their searing hot pan. I was quite lucky to see that Ann Chin's helper was in the process of making the skins. The exterior was freshly made. Its soft, thin and chewy nature had shown a big difference as compared to those machine made ones.Generously stuff with boiled "mang kuang" (turnips) and deliciously combined with eggs, lettuce, peanuts and beansprouts. Though such ingredients were moist and would often soften or even had the Poh Piah skin torn, Ann Chin's fragile skin was not affected. In fact, fillings were well retained and a bite of it let off the flavourful juicy Mang Kuang. Yums!Cost: $1.60 Each continue reading

Chinatown Complex Market and Food Centre is filled with old uncles/patrons and occasionally tourists from all around the world with Chinatown as one of the tourist attractions in Singapore. Nearby here if you're seated at the right spot, you can see the temple and the crowd of tourists. Nice place to walk around and check out the road side stalls. We decided to try the Popiah (2 for $3) from Ann Chin and found that their popiah was pretty good! There was generous portion of fillings and the skin was well wrapped and secured so you can pop it all one piece one shot in your mouth. Satisfying! continue reading

Visit : http://www.dairycream.blogspot.sg/2013/05/ann-chin-popiah-chinatown-complex-market.html for full postAfter my failed attempt to have Ann Chin Popiah at Singapore Food Trail @Singapore Flyer, I headed to Chinatown Hawker Centre where the actual store is located as it sells my two favourite hawker food popiah and kueh pie tee!I thought I was lucky as the hawker centre had just been opened for a few days since it shut down for refurbishment. We ordered two popiah (one for $1.60/two for $3) one spicy and one plain. Overall, they were one of the better popiahs in Singapore, and as always, I prefer spicy to plain. The resilient skin did not wilt when it contacted the moist filling. There is also the crunchy fritters and peanuts, but the mangkwang (turnip) was not very flavorful. In fact, I like the kueh pie tee ($3 for 6 pieces) with the crispy prawns sitted on top. The shells have been arranged in the container and are filled upon order. Try putting the entire thing in your mouth (if it is big enough) and let the flavors explode in your mouth. The fillings were warm, juicy and crunchy. Instead of popiah, the kueh pie tee would be something that I would want to have again. But, I just realised I missed out the Satay Bee Hoon on the right. Need to go back soon to have my fix! Full post: www.dairycream.blogspot.sg continue reading
