Antoinette has been around for quite some time, tantalizing diners’ taste buds with their extensive menu. In December 2011, Antoinette finally launched an afternoon tea set menu, served only at Penhas and Palais branches from 2-5pm on weekdays.

As with the all the other branches, Antoinette Palais décor encompasses strong Parisian influences, and is sophisticated and elegant.

High Tea Set Menu is priced at $60++ for 2 persons, which includes a sumptuous variety of savories and sweets, along with 2 servings of coffee, tea (refillable), hot chocolate or juices. This works out to about $35/pax after GST and service charge, which I felt was a tad pricy for the slightly above average quality of the food, and inattentive service.

Osmanthus tea: A beautifully crafted sencha that has enchanting scent of summer-fresh flowers and the taste of ripe nectarines. Maofeng green tea is used as a base for this osmanthus flower blend. The tea had a light a delicate aroma.

The bottom tier comprises of sweet pastries and delectable savories:
-Petit finger sandwich of yuzu crab mimosa
-Foie gras terrine on toasted brioche with peach chutney
-Petit seafood bouchees
-Almond croissant
-Petit Pain au chocolate
-Hazelnut swirl

More delightful savories on the middle tier:
- Croissant filled with Serrano ham and Swiss Gruyere cheese
- Petit pain au lait with pink shrimp cocktail
-Smoke salmon profiterole with dill Chantilly
-Pita Pockets filled with smoke duck breast with pommery mustard

Dainty cakes and pastries on the top tier:
-Assorted petit macaron
-Petit Versailles (flourless chocolate sponge with 55% dark chocolate)
-Pear tart amandine
-Praline profiterole

The savories fared much better than the sweets, which came as a surprised to me as Antoinette bakes superb cakes. Overall the food was decent, but it certainly didn’t wow. On a positive note, the set was filling and everything came in pairs (some places only have 1 serving of a certain items), so there was no need to trouble ourselves to cut anything into half.
M wasn’t too hungry so she had a Nougatine Sundae($9): Praline ice cream with hazelnut nougatine, salty caramel and caramelized filo pastry. I nipped a little from her and it sent me straight to heaven. I will definitely visit Antoinette again just to have one whole cup to myself!

The egg omelette was really big but a bit too dry, especially the egg yolk which I think was a bit overly cooked. The toasted bread was soft and slightly crunchy on the outer layer. Sautéed onion with mushroom was quite tasty and not too oily, but would have been better if the portion can be more. Overall was not a too bad dining experience here.

Le Royale ($9, below) is a combination a dark chocolate mousse, almond meringue, hazelnut almond feuilletine, chocolate genoise and dark rum. In layman terms, it's a chocolate and hazelnut cake. This is for the chocolate lover as the chocolate was very rich and dense. The base was a hazelnut almond feuilletine which was akin to thin crispy waffles. Overall, the texture was rich and crispy. It was like eating a chocolate cake and hazelnut waffle biscuit.

This place was quite empty during a Saturday afternoon. Considering the whole of Singapore was in Orchard on a weekend, I think this is a great place to escape the crazy crowds for a nice afternoon tea.

We ordered Club Honey Baked Ham sandwich @ $15.00. The sandwich comes with honey backed ham slices, omelette, mayonnaise, plump tomatoes, potato chips, fresh lettuce and petit salad with house dressing. The presentation is as good as its taste.

Seafood Alio Olio @ $26.00. The spaghetti comes with mussels, scallops, squids, prawn cooked in white wine sauce with olive oil, chilli and Italian parsley. The seafood size are quite jumbo which makes the overall spaghetti worth its value.

Dessert choice was Chocolicieux @ S$9.00. Chocolate ice-cream with chocolate crumble and dark chocolate pieces. Sinful and yummy I would say.The crepe was nicely done. The combination of cold and hot does the wonder.

Overall dinner was pleasant with quiet surrounding at Palais Renaissance. It was a good decision to have dinner at this branch as no many people in the restaurant. I think partly due to the location is further away from the Orchard mrt station. Customers would prefer to go to Mandarin Gallery branch instead as the location is near to a MRT station.

We were shown the menu after we settle down at our table. Food prices are ok, on the high side but not too high. We each ordered a main dish and a dessert. Most of the mains tasted ok....my Burger Antoinette was quite yummy...and filling too.

The chicken patty was well marinated and pan fried to perfection, it was slightly charred but juicy and tender...coupled with plump tomato and crunchy lettuce and two perfectly toasted bread...very delish!

The desserts were quite disappointing...they looked so pretty and yummy but tasted mediocre, sad. My beautiful looking Saint Honore l'Amour was rather bland, the almond tart base was no longer crunchy...disappointed!

Overall, the dining experience was not what we expected. Service was not warm and welcoming. Food was mostly so so and desserts weren't as nice as they looked. The total bill for each pax was about $50 which was reasonable though. Don't forget to check out the pretty looking jewel box bill container.

Friends and I ordered Mont Blanc, Antoinette. The rest I didn't take note as they belonged to my friends's colleagues which I didn't know too well and it was my first time meeting them.

Mont Blanc is a smooth and sweet chestnut cream beautiful twirls topped on a buttery almond tart, simply heavenly.

A must-have when anyone visits this place is Antoinette, it looks as pretty as it tastes! Stares at it harder and you'll almost see a glow on its own. *pop* Sour raspberry coulis (yummy).

A place for the tai-tais, Antoinette serves up really expensive cakes. I tried the Antoinette strawberry shortcake but unfortunately found it really mediocre and certainly not worth the price. The cake itself was too oily and there was just too much cream. The shortcake itself did not have a crunchy taste. The strawberries tasted somewhat sour and thus not totally fresh.

Antoinette is known for their exquisite cakes, having tried their Antoinette signature earl grey cake, I decided to try their strawberry shortcake this time round. Not really a fan of strawberry shortcakes as they usually look very pretty but is actually average tasting. This one was no exception. There were large chunks of strawberries which were fresh. However, there was nothing special about the cake itself.

so we went to other place for dinner & came back around 8plus,this time was a chinese guy who served us,he was very nice & let us in,he told us that as they closing so it would be better than we can just ordered cake instead of main dish,& my main point is just having their cake,so we ordered some cake & macarons
As i read from some blog, their signature cake was antoinette,so i ordered that
antonitte was very creamy, thick chocolate with mild earl grey aroma,i like the thin layer crust below,as the whole cake was very creamy,i feel sick of it after 2-3bites

i also tried their saint honore l"amour ,this was a disappointed cake,i choose this cause it look so pinky & sweet,is actually rose syrup cake,it was too sweet, the crust was not as crispy like "antonitte",it tasted like "lau hong" biscuit
for service i got to say they still need to improve, the filipino waitress just standing there, won't automatic refill our drinks, when we asked her to help us take pic,she gave us a black face
Hope that next time i go,their service will improve

Luckily, this year I have found a good replacement. After leaving in room temperature for about 20min, the ultra-silky-ice-cream like milk chocolate mousse reached the perfect texture and the sweetness is cut through by the Mandarin orange custard and a pillowy dark chocolate sponge

Mandarina ($9)

I particularly adore the shiny dark chocolate and orange glaze around the cake which makes it even more appealing to the eyes. The caramelised almond pieces hidden at the base is an additional bonus for a crunchy bite.

Mandarin Orange Macaron($2.50)
The seasonal limited edition Mandarin Orange Macaron($2.50) may not be the best ones in town but reminds you that Chinese new year is coming. Unfortunately, the buttercream was anything but plain and the shell was too dry.

Galette De Rois ($5 per slice)

But out of all these, I like this traditional puff pastry filled with almond paste by Antoinette the best. Having tried at least 2 others( Tiong Bahru bakery and TWG) this year, this is so good that I am naming it the King of the King's cake.
Why? Simply because the layers of puff pastry holds its structure and kept the air holes well trapped in between, a good sign of a well baked pastry that do not require extra baking time in the oven( which I usually do as most pastries are underbaked like a chewy rubber) What's more its the most affordable deal out of all.

In conclusion, though I know these things might not appeal to traditionalists, but I'm pretty sure one would not regret trying them. Yes, they might appear sinful but I doubt they are any less sinful than what we have been eating during the festive season.

(around $12++). I think this dish is just normal, prefer the one with smoked salmon and scrambled eggs but toasts are good.

The Service
Service was not as good as expected as one of the waiters was not very clear when he repeated our orders. They were not very attentive when our cups were empty and we have to request twice for it to be refilled. But these are small things which do not deter me from returning.

The Ambiance
It is a really suitable place for friends, family or even couples. A very quiet cozy place where you can chill, probably because of its location.

The Price
Affordable prices for the breakfast food. Slightly on the high end for the desserts and main courses.

Overall
I will probably come back to try its desserts and I love its ambiance overall.
