Fluffy pancakes, basil cream cheese, poached eggs, watermelon, almond flakes and toasted sesame
It was interesting that the pancakes were spread with basil cream cheese which gave them a unique taste.

Overall the food was delicious and filling. Service was spotty. I using the 1-for-1 Early Bites promotion from FEAST under MEClub mobile application. After successfully hunting down the cafe, we were welcomed by a clean and chic interior. Amongst the 3 of us, we had:1) Mushroom Soup - this came as part of a set and it's quite good. Not out of a can for sure.2) Seared Seabass in cream sauce - expected fishy taste but it was actually very delightful. Flavourful but not heavy with the cream sauce.3) Baked Seafood Pasta - fresh ingredients with the pasta done al dente. Though I found the pasta slightly bland, easily fixed with a few dash of salt.

Will return if in the area.

The ginseng panna cotta is an interesting one. Its cream infused with ginseng and wolfberries served with a honey and chrysanthemum sorbet. The sorbet came melted.. not sure if i was there too early for the dessert or? Other than the presentation, i enjoyed the dessert more.

Eggs Benedict were decently made - The poached eggs were soft and fluffy, prepared nicely and went very well with the ham and toast! THe hollandaise sauce was divine as well and complimented the eggs and ham very well. The frittata was extra special as its an italian open style omelette stuffed with all kinds of ingredients such as asparagus, onions, mushrooms and cheese! Good portion and awesome mix of flavours really made my day at Arbites! Arbite does offer many other dining options and dishes as well other than all day breakfast, so do give those a try! Seats are limited, so do be prepared to wait if you walk in!

I have decided to go for the brunch items because that was what I had came here for, thus the Eggs Benedict ($13.90) fit in into the bill perfectly. Flowy eggs topped on a bread with Hollandaise sauce spread on in between the Toasted Brioche, it was pretty decent for the first meal of the day. The Parma ham adds a bit of meatiness to the healthy mix of greens, and offered a savoury taste that went pretty well with the flowy eggs. Overall the Eggs Benedict was pretty good, as the flavours of each item ran pretty well with each other even when it comes to the dressing of the salad. I only wished that the Brioche was more crusty and it seemed pretty soft at the start and became a bit airy after being left for a while.

The Smoked Salmon Croissant ($14.90) had scrambled eggs and smoked salmon placed on the top of an open face Croissant. The Croissant was buttery and flaky but bot particularly crispy on the exterior. The Scrambled Eggs were runny just like how I preferred mine to be done, yet fully cooked through and flavoursome. Smoked Salmon was pretty fresh and gave a smoky taste to the whole dish, and the whole dish just seems pretty well balanced in taste as well.

We also ordered Truffle Fries ($12.90) to share. The fries are rather large, probably for the convenience to spread the mayo over. The fragrance of truffles were evident and aromatic, making every single fry irresistible in flavour and making us yearn for more. Usually the side dishes get forgotten after the mains have arrived, but we were just headed for the fries from time and again throughout the meal just so we can have a taste of it because we were just tempted by it.

Hubby was saying we would be better off having a more satisfying breakfast at the coffee shops downstairs, and all for a much lower price tag. For once, I couldn't help but agree with him.

Arbite is nestled in the sleepy area of Serangoon Garden where you get to avoid the bustle of crowds and can just enjoy a peaceful day hanging out with friends. It's located at level 2 of a shophouse building (the sign is quite big so you can't miss it) and the place is a lot smaller than I would've imagined it to be. The cafe is very small and when packed full of chatting people, it can get quite noisy. I wouldn't say it's a conducive environment for chilling with a book but for a quick meal in a nice cafe setting, this fits the bill. Fun note: They sell quite a bit of truffle oil and other truffle stuff in that green shelve by the counter. Take a browse and you may find something worth buying for the kitchen.

Cute photos framed on the wall. The design of this place is very minimalist and almost to the point of bare. Other than the touches of wooden tables and photo frames, there's not much other design in the place.

First up for our brunch is the Sea Salt Caramel Banana Pan Cake ($14.90). The design is so cute! They made a smiley face which I though is an adorable touch. The pancakes are fluffy and soft (no knives needed just use your fork). There are 3 layers of pancakes and between each layer is a thick smear of mashed bananas. They don't serve maple syrup (you have to request for it) as I think it is meant to be eaten with the caramel sauce. I prefer my pancakes drenched with maple so without it, it's a tad dry for me. The bananas are thick and cloying and makes it harder to swallow. I also didn't get any hint of the sea salt that's supposed to be sprinkled over this dish. The bits of walnuts are very tasty with the pancakes, and I do like the texture, but overall I wouldn't order it again.

We also had the Eggs Benedict ($11.90) and this is a very simple dish. A couple of poached eggs, some honey baked ham drizzled with hollandaise on brioche buns and a small salad in the middle. They don't have a smoked salmon version (I love Eggs Benny with salmon commonly known as Eggs Royale) but the eggs were cooked till they were perfectly runny and the buns were soft and acts as a nice "vehicle" to sop the eggs and ham up into my mouth. They were super generous with the hollandaise sauce and a hint of sour cream and even I found that it was more than enough! I like this dish enough (but it didn't leave me craving for more) BUT I have to note that it is quite a petite dish. If you're a big eater, it may not be enough.

Their Iced Mocha ($5) is simply awesome! Most of the time, the mochas in cafes are either too sweet or too bland. The Iced Mocha here is a perfect balance of coffee and sweetness. I'm so happy that the coffee to syrup ratio is well balanced that I don't feel like I'm slurping up pure syrup. Dense and a hint of smokey flavour and because it's iced they did the right move to make the drink stronger as the melting ice will dilute the flavour. If you're not here to eat, definitely order this and relax the afternoon away.

Lastly, we ended with this unique desert - the Gula Meleka Tiramisu ($8). For the uninitiated, Gula Melaka is brown sugar that's very sweet and has a heavy robust taste and typically used in Asian desserts. We were so intrigued with this East meets West fusion that we had to try it. The gula melaka is infused into the mascarpone and it's very strong! Actually from the first bite, the first thing that hit me was the alcohol flavour. Then slowly, as we ate, the gula meleka taste took over. By the time we finished half the dessert, we couldn't taste anything but the gula meleka. This ingredient has an overpowering taste and unfortunately, it consumed the delicate tiramisu till I feel like I was eating pure brown sugar. I couldn't taste the chocolate or mascarpone at all. So unless you have a MAJOR sweet tooth, I would skip this.

Overall, Arbite is a nice place to get a quick brunch. The food was a hit and miss for me but I like the ambience enough that I wouldn't mind coming back to try other items on the menu. The lunch menu did look very promising to that might be my next aim!

Seemingly surreptitiously located, you might miss it if you’re not focused. It’s housed somewhere a storey above Guardian, amongst the row of shophouses. Arbite serves a range of coffee and tea, around the price of $4 and $5.50 respectively. Contrary to most brunch cafes, it is actually commendable that they serve tea besides the hot beverage made from beans of a tree.

Hot Mocha ($4+) :: I just noticed that they mis-entered the bill – having keyed Iced Mocha ($5) instead of the Hot Mocha that I had. Well, thankfully it’s only a buck. Back to the Mocha, well, I was a little disappointed with it. I could barely taste the chocolate in the drink. Well unless it’s meant to be served without the European’s influence of the coffee-chocolate infusion, though I highly doubt so.

Arbite Breakfast ($15.90+) :: This English Breakfast is by far, the best I’ve had in Singapore. It looks promising on the menu already, and that was why I decided to have this instead of my usual Eggs Benedict (which they do serve too). Save for the nicely done creamy Scrambled Eggs, they actually have some pretty reasonable meaty veal bratwurst and sautéed mushrooms. They also have bacon (but not to any surprise, it’s done hard and dry like in almost everywhere else in Singapore), and sides like grilled tomato, pommes noisettes (fried potato balls) and baked beans. What makes me really happy, full and satisfied is that you can actually change your sides to any other (no top up needed if they are priced the same). Sides include grilled tomato ($2) plain ciabatta, eggs, baked beans (each at $3), sautéed mushrooms ($3.50), pommes noisettes, mash potato, garlic bread, honey baked ham, veal bratwurst, bacon (each at $4), smoked salmon ($5). So technically, you can build your own breakfast. What a wonderful morning it’d be, I can imagine.

Service is relatively acceptable. Iced Water is served.
The cafe can probably only sit about 30 – 40 people. So you might want to take note of the time you head there.

Arbite also serves lunch and dinner. They have a pretty extensive and elaborate menu I’d say. A must visit even if you stay at the other end of Singapore.

—> Note #1: They only charge 10% service charge. GST is waived.

It has been a while since I noticed Arbite, located in Serangoon Garden-a place that I visit at least twice a week either for food or banking matters. To be exact, it is located on the second floor of Guardian pharmacy, beside Sushi Tei. Recently posting of positive food review online, make me decide to visit this bistro. This review is based on our observations (Little Devil and Chubby Botak Koala) from a few visits there.

Some simple facts about Arbite, “It all began with a simple belief shared by three secondary school buddies, that good food should be affordable and accessible. And so good food is at the heart of it all because the best reward for an honest day's work is a hearty meal.” (Quoted from Arbite.com.sg)

Our first visit was for a quick brunch during our wedding anniversary. We had Foie Gras ($14.90), Gardener French Toast ($13.90) and Squid Ink Seafood Spaghettini ($24.90). When the Spaghettini arrived, it looks so appetizing. The giant-size seafood cover the top part of the plates. The squid ink pasta was handmade, cooked to al dente, springy and soak up the fresh seafood flavour with tomato base. This dish get our two thumbs up, super Yummyyy!! And we were saying to ourself, we need to come back more often.

Gardener French Toast & Foie Gras, shared a same basic ingredient, Brioche. The brioche has the perfect texture to pair with both dishes. For the French Toast, it is lightly coated with eggs and you can choose your dips of chocolate pot de crème, vanilla bean cream, berry compote and maple syrup. We like the cream berry compote and maple syrup. However the chocolate has a dense texture similar to nutella, I will like this dip if it is on melted chocolate form but LD being a nutella fan, simply loves the texture. The Foie Gras is pan fried to perfection, slightly crispy but melts in your mouth. It is a wonderful dish, although the generous apple & raisin compote can be a little to sweet for some people.

Our Second visit was for a quick desserts. Specials for the day. Sago Watermelon Creme Brulee ($8) and Chendol Panacotta ($8). These are the interpretations of modern desserts with Asian flavour. The brulee has a nice layer of crusted sugar on the top, the combination of sago, watermelon and crème, created a nice balance with the right sweetness and texture in this desserts.

Chendol Panacotta is a creative invention, but a little more difficult to palate. The panacotta is thick and has a good sweetness level in it. Texture is slightly condense but did not manage to hold the red bean and chendol in place. We have slight problem in accepting chendol flavour with cream and orange syrup, however have to give them brownie points for coming out with this desserts.

Third visit, Truffle Fries (S12.90), Pancakes ($14.90); and soup, salad, Braised Beef and Pork and Veal Sausage ($30 – UOB 1 for 1 promo). Truffle fries is house fries tossed with truffle sea salt, truffle oil and serve with truffle dip. The fries are nicely fried, crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The truffle oil is fragrant but subtle, while the truffle dip accentuate the flavour in the fries. For the pancakes, the presentation is amazing however the sweetness is a little overwhelming. Although the pancake is fluffy, the caramelised banana actually make the texture quite dense and hard to swallow.

For UOB 1 for 1 promo, it come with mushroom soup is thick and flavourful. The salad with vinaigrette dressing, is simple yet refreshing. The braised beef is tender and well cook. Paired with their popular brioche to soak up the gravy from the beef is a nice comfort food. Meanwhile, Pork and Veal sausages dish quite disappointing. The pepper in the pork is to overpowering, the veal sausages are dry and the additional ingredients in the mash potatoes made it taste weird.

So far, we find the ice lemon tea ($4) and ice passion fruit tea ($5) are quite refreshing.

Service has always been good. The service staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Decoration is simple. The wall on the staircase are decorated with lego bricks. The dining area is open and filled with natural lights during the day.

Overall, Arbite provide a good quality food using fresh ingredients. They refresh their menu quite regularly. For example, the squid ink pasta was off the menu on our recent visit, and replace with a Tagliatelle with prawns. However, based on the dishes served, we can be sure it will be top notch. Looking forward to our next visit there. Cheers!!

Arbite doesn’t have truffle fries on its menu, but you can request for it! can’t remember what was the price though. It was pretty good! Thick cut fries that were seasoned with the truffle essence. I still think PS café has the best truffle fries though! The seasoning is un-matchable haha.

Since it was brunch, so we chose stuff from the lunch menu as well
the grilled Moroccan chicken ($15.90) was a rather interesting dish. It’s a chicken thigh marinated in Moroccan spices, giving it a lovely flavour, and is served with pilaf rice, side salad and tomato olive salsa.

sis ordered the frittata ($14.90) which is an Italian style open face omelette filled with lots of ingredients! Bacon, asparagus, onions, potato, fresh tomatoes, olives, mushrooms and parmesan cheese. It was really a smorgasbord of flavours!

The sea salt caramel banana pancakes ($14.90) was alright…I felt it was not spectacular or anything but was pretty decent. The pancakes were fluffy with caramelized bananas layered in between them and drizzled with maple syrup.

And I have to say that I LOVED my eggs benedict ($11.90)!!! haha. no #1 fan of this dish and when I have a good version of it, I definitely have to rave about it
they use brioche at Arbite for the bread and I loved how soft and fluffy it was!! Perfect for soaking up the hollandaise sauce, which was provided in abundance which was another plus point
yummy! We wanted to try their desserts as well, but unfortunately it was too much for us xP I heard the wife’s chocolate cake is so awesome though!!!

Truffle Fries $10.90 With every bite, I could taste the truffle. The truffle mayo dip was good too even though I am usually turned off by the idea of mayonnaise. Arbite Breakfast $15.90
This plate of Arbite Breakfast was extremely filling and the girls could not finish it. I liked the sautéed mushrooms. The grilled tomato was charred on top but did not taste charred and was so juicy. One bite into the tomato and there was a burst of juices. The scrambled eggs were smooth and creamy. The toasted brioche tasted good when paired up with the butter provided. The potato balls were a tad dry and thus I did not finish them. The sausage was mediocre and everyone did not finish it as well. It seemed like the first bite of the sausage was not tempting enough to make us want more. It was quite a disappointment however the other items on the plate managed to compensate for it. a delectable spread of variety

Smoked Salmon Croissant $14.90
I liked this a lot too because I am a fan of croissants and things buttery so a buttery croissant is the perfect bread for me. The smoked salmon tasted just right, not too salty. It complemented the lighter flavour of the scrambled eggs well. Croissant + smoked salmon + scrambled egg: simple yet heavenly combination.

I was in Serangoon and looking for something to eat for dinner and decided to stick with Arbite as I have been there a couple of times and the food was good. I picked the grilled moroccan chicken, which is basically chicken marinated with moroccan spices. It came with rice and salad, but as I wasn't into tomatoes etc, the staff was nice enough to change it to fries. Overall it was well marinated but wasn't impressive. Should pick other main course and give this a miss.

I prefer menus with pictures but arbite's one was good enough because the descriptions were short and concise. We ordered the tri pepper spaghettini with soft shell crab to share. It’s an awesome plate of unique and springy noodles texture coupled with a cute crab. The crab was oily though. The overall taste was flavourful with good spices. Very refreshing bites! One good/bad thing is that Arbite’s interior is quite small. It looks like it could only hold a maximum of 40 people. We saw that most

Lucky us that we managed to grab a seat without reservations! Oh! My fav part of Arbite is the lego deco on the walls as we climbed the stairs up to the shop. Creative!
