My friend has been having this Thai food phase for months now, so whenever we would meet up for lunch or dinner, she’d take me to a Thai restaurant. Yesterday, it was Arroy Dee. A bunch of us (6 to be more specific) had our lunch there and boy, did we order a feast! For me, I ordered a personal Pineapple Fried Rice with Floss. It was only for $6 but it was big enough to feed 2 not so hungry pax. For sharing, my friend ordered the Garoupa fish, Pad Thai, Chicken, Mango Salad, and other rice dishes.Hmm. My dish was well cooked. The rice was very fragrant and tasty, you could eat it without any main dishes. I also tried the fish and it was quite tender without a lot of bones. I also tried the Chicken and there was a bit of spice—just enough to add a kick to this otherwise average dish. Overall, good food and excellent service. The staff was so attentive with what we needed. I think it's because my friend is a regular customer there. HAHA! continue reading

whenever I got cravings for tom yum soup, aroy dee will be the first to pop up in my "to-go-list". After they have relocated their restaurant to cater for more patrons (it used to be only accommodating 10 groups of patrons?), it was pretty easy for us to get a sit even when we reach there at around 7pm. ordered the usual tom yum goong, together with stirred fried kailan with garlic and coconut pork. Wanted to order cockles too, but I think they are not selling that anymore everything is good except the coconut pork. The fish is too salty and the coconut is way too heavy and thick in this dish. Will be better if the coconut sauce can be a little diluted. continue reading

We were craving for Thai food, as a result we ended up here!We had ordered two 'Green' dishes: Pahd Pak Krunmit (kind of mixed veggies, SGD 6) and Yum Voon Seng (Glass Noodle salad with seafood, SGD 8). Actually they aren't expensive, but quite small in portion... personally I don't think it worths such price We had also ordered one shell dish: Hoy Kang Luak (see hum, SGD 6). It is a reasonable portion dish for its price. However, maybe we were unlucky, most of the see hum we had, their shells were not opened yet, we could only taste very few out of all.. shells not open could be the result of not fresh enough The last dish is my favorite one - Tom Yum Goong soup (SGD 8 for medium size). Wow very strong taste of spice and very rich in ingredients! I was very impressed by it. The soup was a bit oily though, taste it once in a while is not bad! continue reading

Aroy Dee Thai Cafe is located at the first level of Sunshine Plaza facing NAFA. Ever since I tried the Tom Yum over here, I have been back several times. Over the few visits, I have noticed that Aroy Dee Thai Cafe is always very crowded during lunch time.Thai people are very patriotic. Thai Royal family Portrait are proudly displayed in most eateries, restaurants and shops in Thailand. Recently, I have noticed that most Thai restaurants in Singapore are displaying the Royal Family Portrait too.If you are there during lunch, they have the Set Lunch Menu (rice/noodle) that includes a main course and a drink (Lime/Guava/Mango/Freshly Brew Lemon Grass/Roselle Flower) for just $5.50.I ordered the Set Lunch 'Tom Yum Chicken with Steam Rice' and my choice of drink was lime. The Tom Yum (Tom Yam) Chicken was delicious! It was not oil and did not look spicy (not fiery red or orangey in colour). But well, appearances are deceiving... it was very spicy. Still it was so addictive that I finish everything! In addition, they were generous with the ingredients (button mushrooms, chicken chunks and tomato). The chicken chunks were tender and soft! A must order! Shiok!Aroy Dee Thai Cafe although is not very accessible; not near any MRT stations. The nearest MRT stations are Bugis and Dhoby Ghaut stations. Despite this, Aroy Dee Thai Cafe is very popular. The place is frequently packed. Well, the reason is because the food is great! If it is too crowded, no worries, there is Victor's Kitchen (great dim sum place) nearby! Whenever we feel like having some authentic cheap thai food, we will always head to our favourite thai place - aroy dee!normally during weekends dinner time there will be a small crowd and the shop people have to take out their foldable tables to accommodate the crowd. we were lucky that there were no queue when we reached and was quickly usher to an outdoor seat. we wanted to order our usual but realized that they had changed their menu so we order something which they recommended - their new tom yum steamboat for 2. the steamboat consist of the usual veggies, tang-hoon, pork meat and seafood. portion was decent enough for 2 medium eaters, but as a big eaters, we decided to order a side dish which we never try before but many diners seems to fancy - hum (cockle)! their cockles are boiled together with some lemon grass which enhance the smell and flavoring. now i know why many diners likes to order this side dish continue reading
