Parc Sovereign Hotel is a newly established mid-tier class hotel along the stretch of Tyrwhitt Road. Value adding to this hotel chain is Babette Restaurant & Bar that features French-Japanese cuisine. This unpretentious yet hipster restaurant is the first of its kind along Tyrwhitt Road. With a capacity of 64 seats, Babette is a perfect spot for lunch, dinner and drinks all day, err day!

Salmon & Soba; Thick slices of confit salmon served on a bed of springy soba noodles with tamagoyaki.

Highlight of Babette will be their Babette Chirashi Donburi ($19); Marinated assortment of fresh sashimi, tamago, and tobiko on warm rice. Each mouthful was delightful and refreshing at the same time. Health conscious peeps, this is da bomb! It's Instagram worthy too! Apologize that my picture doesn't do justice due to lighting.

Chilli Crab Pasta; A classic Singaporean favourite that comes with evenly distributed crabmeat topped with skillfully fried soft shell crab. A familiar taste with a twist!

Lastly, Lava Macha with Vanilla Ice Cream which sent me straight to heaven!

There you go, a review of Babette. Food lovers, this is a place not to miss! Alert to all drinkers, this is another night spot to explore, but remember, don't drink and drive.

Will love to try their Crackling Pork ($10) which takes 48hr of slow cooking and roasted to perfection.

daughter bought dinner @ babette on 18.9.2015 to celebrate an important occasion for her. ^^
ambience was quite cool i guess, though a much lower level of decor c/w say foc. the table & chairs were like canteen sitting.
service was really poor because of shortage of staff. we waited very long to be served even after signalling to the servers several times.
octopus tempura was poor. octopus was tough, batter was not tempura standard.
but perhaps that is to be expected. octopus are usually sous vide (eg our favourite tako kakiage at mikuni) or slow braised & grilled. octopus done by this preparation will almost certainly be tough.
cauliflower was ok i guess but non-descript.
passable i guess.
this barachirashi don must go down as the worst ever!
yes!! the worst barachirashi don in Singapore! they have pickled carrots & radish mixed in the barachirashi don??? made the don overly sour unlike a sweet vinegared don. never had such preparation before.
even the photos may look quite pretty, but in terms of taste, this would be 1 if sumiya’s is 7 & sun with moon@wheelock’s is 8.
the chilli crab linguine was also the worst i ever had.
chilli crab sauce was overly sweet. crabmeat had not much taste probably the very cheap frozen stuff.
it’s the standard of any fast food or cheap pasta joints.
the duck confit was very good though. may not be better than saveur or concettobut it had good crispy skin & the meat was very flavourful & not very sinewy.the don was not much taste also, but at least the duck confit was a saving grace. it was very expansive though at S$28 c/w saveur & concetto!
afterall, duck confit at saveur & concetto were just S$13.90! ie 1/2 the price!
the steak & foie gras don was the best of the lot!
the steak was very good.
think the steak was an average cut so the preparation was really quite good to give it nice bbq flavours & not tough texture.
chicken wings was surprisingly good. better than what my helper makes, which is a very good chicken wing. we added the order at the end & it took forever (like another 20mins) to arrive.
we had a bad experience though.
restuarant did not honour the chope’s black & white offer of a complimentary macha cake for every S$50 spent!
we spent S$257 & got only 1 complimentary macha lava cake! :-(
i asked for just a second macha lava cake (afterall we spent 5x the every S$50) but the restuarant refused. i guess the management & staff are not properly schooled in service recovery.
i did not like the macha lava cake either. macha was very sweet & very strange combination of flavours unlike the macha parfait kind of flavours which i like (say) at sun with moon. one good thing though was that my youngest daughter liked it. just as well we only had 1 complimentary cake.

I've never watched the film Babette's Feast, but I'm pretty sure the food served at the same-name restro-bar in Singapore is definitely Not as sleep-inducing as the film for me. One classic example is the Duck Confit Donburi $28 where the humble rice staple of Japanese students and office workers alike are prepared the French way. Or more precisely, the familiar kentang aka potato is upgraded to premium Japanese grains, drizzled with some mysterious Babette sauce and topped off with a crispy duck leg that was slightly leaden and dry.

The steak and foie gras donburi $28, draws from the humble gyudon, though it's difficult to equate both beef dishes in actuality. Yet I would happily trade a gyudon for this hearty bowl because the less-than-medium doneness steak is comfortingly soft, coming close to my best steak in Tokyo. The degree of seasoning might be a little harsh but just fine if you have them with the rice.

I love soba but the Salmon & Soba $17 did less to ruffle up my serenity. The sous-vide salmon was overdone and bland, falling out of sync with the sweet tamagoyaki and nori flakes, though I appreciated the smooth firm bites of buckwheat noodles.

On the other spectrum of the menu "Small plates and tapas" are some comfort dishes, meant to satisfy late night pangs without too much unnecessary calories. The Charred Cauliflower ($8) is an unusual order; white flower heads literally "charred" to the right softness, served with a very mild yuzu velouté and lots of aromatic fried ginger.

I thought avocados and octopus are two very unfriendly lowbrow ingredients but Babette has transformed them into something delicious. Avocado puree are sagely accessorized with fatty aburi, crunchy pickles, tomatoes in the Roasted Avocados $12 to produce an unfamiliar yet awesome texture. Think an inverted salmon tartare. TheOctopus salad with Japanese dressing $17 and citrus segments provided a perky slab of acid to cut thorough the smoky flavours of grilled octopus.

The food that night was a mixture of appealing and ho-hum, but not till I chanced upon another gastronomic epiphany of my life. Ladies and gentleman.......let us welcome the Matcha Lava Cake! *applauses*

Not a novelty as Smoulders has launched a petty and unsatisfactory version years ago. But this was a terrific, dream-come-true amalgamation of the East meets West. Like the Madame Butterfly in the realm of plated desserts. So delicate was the molten creation that my heart wrenched in agony as I tearing down the walls with a ting fork and let the gooey yet viscous matcha flow. Not only will you feel tremendous guilt with every bite, lusting at the mellowness of the brew. But you'll be left inconsolable and wanting more when you are done.

Due to the poor lighting at night, I couldn't capture good shots of the food. Thank goodness for it as the mains were very mehh. First, we had the Babette Chirashi Donburi (2Hands). Was quite disappointed to get such a small portion (yup more rice than sashimi) despite its price (roughly around $20). Definitely not the best around.

Next up, the Duck Confit Donburi (3Hands). Although the duck was nicely done, tender and crisp, it comes with rice. Seriously, i dont think rice compliments well with duck confit IMO. For $28, it was a came with a heftly pricetag and I left to rue its misses.

this Salmon & Soba (3Hands) was very average. More arrangement than culinary skills. Seemed like the mains didn't hit it well with the group of us. Thankfully, although the mains weren't fantastic, Babette had something up their sleeves which were their desserts.

Probably their specialty, the Matcha Lava Cake (4Hands) and the Chocolate Lava (4Hands) cake saved the day. Some might find the lava cakes too watery, but it felt that the matcha was real good. It takes skill to create such a good yet not that sweet dessert.

To end things off, we found this craft beer rather pleasant. To girls out there who dislike the taste of beer, this Yuzu(a sour citrus fruit) Beer will be your next best friend. A great concoction, going well with the truffle fries.

Overall Verdict: 3Hands. Great for dessert and drinks. It seems that their mains need plenty of improvements to attract the crowd. Worth a try due to the lava cakes, simply photo worthy and fit for the stomach.
Other Info. : mains were disappointing. desserts were good.

I found Babette to be very interesting with the French-Japanese food on the menu. A very refreshing new restaurant to check out if you're at the Lavender/Jln Besar stretch. Very easy to find since it's just opposite Chye Seng Huat Hardware.

Friendly staff. Nice chill decor.
Other Info. : Even though Babette is in a hotel, I like the fact that there's no dress code. I came in slippers and shorts and they still welcomed me!

Been driving past for a couple of weeks and finally had the time and the chance to go check out Babette. It's located in a new hotel called Parc Sovereign and serve a menu that is French-Japanese inspired.

Surprisingly, for a cafe that's newly opened (heard they only started business in 1st week of July '14), the crowd is pretty good.

The food was amazingly delicious. I had the "steak and foie gras donburi" and it was absolutely amazing. Steak was perfectly prepared, rice was soft and fluffy, and the foie gras was creamy and melt-in-your-mouth. Portion is also filling enough for $28 so quite worth the money considering that there's foiegras.

I also had the Grilled Octopus Salad. Best octopus I've tasted in a very long time. Tender, tsaty, and not overly seasoned. Wish there could have been a bit more octopus though.

Overall, it was a really enjoyable dining experience at Babette and I will definitely be back for more good food and drinks.
Other Info. : Happy Hour - 5 bottles for $39.
