Targeted for their famous Tom Yum Soup, we decided to order two traditional sourly spicy soup. Shrimps, Shallots and other ingredients were fresh and soaked perfectly with spices broth. The price was $13.95 for Seafood version. Beverages to me were both overly thick and sweet, I requested a staff to bring me additional ices. Overall, my rating for BaliThai was still above expectation. Typical mid-ranged restaurant, although not cheap but it was a good place to chill out with established culinary.

First up were the sides i.e. prawn cake and stuffed chicken wings. You can get these at literally every Thai restaurant so it's a readily available dish. Unfortunately, the version served on this day tasted a bit odd. The prawn cake appeared thinner than usual so I could taste more of the batter outside rather than the filing. The chicken wing looked much lighter in colour than usual so the skin didn't have that crispy taste and the filling was rather bland.

As for the customised main dish, I chose seafood horfun in satay sauce which was what I tasted before. Strangely speaking, the 2nd time I tasted it felt a bit different and it felt oiler as you went further down the plate.

It does feel as if inconsistency is the key here because service was also less attentive than my first visit to this branch. I've tried other Bali Thai branches which were of a similar standard so it remains to be seen if it has improved now.

The plain rice was fragrant and not too soggy. The chicken meats are quite tender and juicy, which the floor coating was quite crunchy and not too oily. The sweet tomato and chilli paste used in this dish is just alright, which not overly sweet nor too spicy. Egg omelette was abit too over cooked, which the egg yolk was quite dry and abit tough. Over all was alright but base on the price of $8.80 per plate, it was abit too high in price. May not want to buy it again due to its high price.

The lunch crowd wasn't as hectic as I had expected -perhaps due to the quality of the food here, yikes. We were ushered to a table quickly, and the best thing about this place is that they have an option for you to customise your noodles -you choose a noodle time, the main ingredient you'd like (vegetables, seafood, etc), and the style it's fried in.

I opted for the phad thai noodle with vegetables fried with basil & chilli. This cost slightly over $10.

The noodles were really not much -the phad thai noodle had this distinct ricey smell (the exact smell you get when you buy kuay teow from the wet market!), and the basil/chilli had no real flavour. The vegetables weren't a lush green and they were slightly overcooked. The fried noodles were a completely lacklustre attempt to recreate the true Thai flavours. Overall, while it wasn't too salty, it also had no flavour nor aroma to speak of.

The tom yum soup cost slightly over $10 as well, and it came in a clay, earthern pot. This was a nice touch as it helped to keep the heat in very nicely. However, the soup was a letdown. There was way too much lemongrass in the soup, and the flavours didn't fuse with each other nor provide a smooth transition. The flavours were way too isolated, the initial taste was (too) sour, then came the hit of spiciness, followed by the sickly sweet aftertaste that didn't sit so well with me. While there were ample ingredients (mussels, prawns and squid...), we would have rathered they cut down on the lemongrass instead.

All in all, BALIThai is not exactly the best out there for Thai food and if you need to satisfy a thai food craving, this isn't the place for it. The fried noodles had no real aroma nor flavour that was remotely decent, let alone impressive. The clay pot kind of made me anticipate something more for the soup, but it still fell flat. If you do try this place, maybe you want to give their rice & dishes a try. A colleague tried the fried rice and commented that it wasn't up to standard as well.

But the pad thai was really good!!!! For $10.80, the serving size is much better than what I usually order at other places and of course, much nicer according to taste. Plus, there’s a generous amount of prawns!! It was just really good!!
One of the better pad thai in singapore!

The grilled chicken chop that came with my meal was huge and tasty. However I felt there's still plenty of room for improvement for their Phai Thai. In my opinion, it does not taste like the authentic Phai Thai which I had tasted before from many other different dining places. It tasted more to me like stirred fried guo tiao. I also felt it was not spicy enough. AND the vegetables were raw. Yucks! The raw taste of the vegetables certainly spoil my mood during my meal and I am not a big fan of raw vegetables. If there's one thing that they can improve for this meal, it would be to cook these raw vegetables so that it can better complement the dish.

Well, you don't exactly get to make your own noodles, but it's quite an interesting concept. First you pick the type of main dish you want to have: seafood, chicken, prawn and others. Then you choose the noodles: kway teow, pad thai, glass noodles, egg noddle and finally you pick the sauce to go with your "creation". I ordered a Seafood Kway Teow with Garlic Pepper ($12.50) since I don't take chili too well and they did not have many non-spicy sauces. The kway teow was still rather chewy which i

I just had my lunch at Bali Thai. Came across a very interesting concept in their menu where they allow you to mix and match the choice of your noodle (eg. Egg noodle, Glass noodle, Hokkien noodle, Kway Teow, Phad Thai noodle), ingredients of various choices to pick from and also the type of sauce.

For my lunch, I picked the glass noodle, seafood ingredients and Tom Yum sauce. I felt that the glass noodle was a bit too dry. It could have been better if they served the glass noodle that's not so dry and comes with some Tom Yum gravy. I also felt that the Tom Yum wasn't that spicy at all. I even felt it tasted a bit diluted, when I compared it with other Tom Yum dishes that I had tried before.

For the ingredient portion, they did give a reasonable portion. My meal comes with 2 mussels, 2 prawns, 2 squids and plenty of button mushrooms and carrots. However I felt it could have been better if they provide more prawns/squids/mussels instead of sticking to 2 for each of them.

Throughout the meal, soothing Thai songs played in the background. Although I don't understand a single word of Thai, but some songs are soothing and catchy and I felt it certainly enhance the diner's meal experience. Even the inner decorations had a Thai feel to it. The whole atmosphere feels very Thai.

The waiters/waitresses service were good too. They were very attentive and prompt in serving you when you signal to them. They are also quite polite too when they are taking orders.

My meal cost $10.90. With GST and service charge, final cost was around $12.75. Still quite reasonable for a meal at Orchard, but I felt it's a little expensive, considering that there are only 2 prawns & 2 squids & 2 mussels.

I love the green curry at bali thai, one of the best I have tasted. I especially love the pandan rice. I do not recommend anyone to just eat the plain rice. I am someone who does not like plain rice, but i must say the pandan rice is super nice- I even refilled my portion 3 times!! Yes you are refill your rice for free. Ambience is alright, very suitable for family and a group of friends.

Enjoy the best of both worlds at BaliThai. A mixture of both balinese and thai food. What more can you ask for. I decided to order something simple and had the sweet sour chicken. Well, it was not at great as i thought it would be. The gravy was too sweet and the rice was a little dry. If you prefer something spicy, you may want to try the basil fried rice. It was much better, tastier and spicier. The price is quite reasonable also and the service is good.

My boyfriend and I were famished and just wanted to settle down quickly. This leaded to us having to make it simple and walked into BALIthai for a proper dinner, since I've never tried the food there anyway and I like trying new places but clearly for a start, I felt it was already a bad choice. Upon arrival, we sat ourselves down with menus. As soon as we had decided our orders, we tried to get a waiter's attention but to no avail as most of them were hanging around the kitchen with their backs faced to the crowd. It took some time for one of them to finally come by our table and took our orders, except that she wasn't very knowledgeable about the menu herself.

"We're ordering from the Create Your Own Noodles."

"Uhhh, -gives uncertain face-"

"Yes, I'd like the grilled chicken chop, with pad thai noodles, and pad thai sauce."

"Um. -continues to give uncertain face- Okayyy."

"I'd also like to request to have it with less oil or is it possible, no oil? more vegetables?"

"(whispers) Errrr, I'm not sure, I've to check... -gives finger gesture-.."

"It's okay. Less oil is good enough."

"(whispers) Errrrr, I still don't know, I've to check but I'll write it down."

"Ok, do y'all serve crackers anyway?"

"-with the still uncertain face- Um. I'm Nottt. Too. Sure......... I don't think we have."

The receipt clipboard was soon placed on our table by another staff who was also timid and soft in his statements. But never mind that as I was glad my receipt printed "Pad Thai Noodles w/ Chicken Chop -no oil -more vegetables."........ except I shouldn't have been glad at all.

The pad thai that came after 20 minutes of waiting turned out not to be no oil or less oil or understandably, like regular stir-fried noodles. But ironically, it was terribly soaked in oil. So much so I could visually see mini puddles of oil flowing along the perimeter of my pile of noodles. Oil stains were also around the white plate. This of course made me responded by telling another waiter how I felt and again, a reply of "Errrrrr, -uncertain face- let me check with my manager." The manager then presented herself and asked us what the issue was. I told her I was upset how my pad thai didn't turn out as requested, showing her the printed receipt as we spoke. She casually responded by "Oh, pad thai is always oily. It should be like that." This made me stirred and I then told her I made a request and it was stated to be possible. With that, she rudely responded, "So you want to cancel your order?" and I came to answer, "Yes".

We took our leave and had dinner at a fast food restaurant elsewhere. I apologize if I come across as a customer with problematic requests but shouldn't restaurants honour their words if made promised? Either that or BALIthai needs better communication between both themselves and customers.
