Now in operation for more than half a decade, since 2008, Bar Bar Black Sheep is still going strong. With a name invoking the popular nursery rhyme 'Baa Baa Black Sheep', this quaint bar with several outlets scattered across Singapore was among the 1st to combine casual open-air dining, pocket friendly drinks, and multi-ethnic cuisine under one roof.

Ambience at Bar Bar Black Sheep is designed to be laid-back and casual, with an open-air concept. As the entire floor space is open, it makes for a very welcoming and vibrant atmosphere, though rainy or warm weather does tend to affect it slightly. The cooling systems around the interior help to alleviate the heat of the day somewhat, but it's not as cool as an air-conditioned place. Expect eclectic but solid wooden furniture, colour themes of light brown against black, and warm, dim lighting.

Service at Bar Bar Black Sheep is casual... too casual. Staff are friendly, and knowledgeable enough to make basic recommendations, but can't describe too much about the food or drinks. Drinks may sometimes be served on wrong coasters, or simply placed the wrong way when presented. They also don't serve complimentary water. Still, I shouldn't complain too much, as Bar Bar Black Sheep has no service charge, and no tax (no GST). At least the service is quick, with good efficiency.

Food at Bar Bar Black Sheep is multi-ethnic, primarily consisting of American, Indian, and Thai cuisine. However, not all outlets feature all 3 cuisines. I find their food to generally be tasty, good enough to pass a typical cafe standard, much better than a hawker centre / food court, but not as good as a proper fine dining restaurant specialising in that cuisine. Their North Indian & American dishes stood out for me. Portions are nicely sized for 1, and prices are wallet friendly for a bar, budget about SGD $27 per person for a meal here.

The Beer Kronenbourg Blanc (SGD $13) is available on tap here, which makes this among the cheaper prices you'll pay for this brand. This Belgian white beer has a bright golden colour, with a light, clean body that tastes of citrus and fruits, almost like a juice, very refreshing and easy to drink with little bitterness.

The Blue Cheese Burger (SGD $15.90) features a thick, meaty, juicy, hand formed minced beef patty, with sliced cucumber, tomato, and lettuce, sandwiched between toasted buttery sesame seed burger buns that are spread with blue cheese. The result is extremely flavourful, you get the moist beef which has a smoky grilled taste, the tangy sharpness of the blue cheese, and the messy juices of the vegetables, followed by the earthy taste of the burger buns. Real simple, but real good.

Bar Bar Black Sheep at Cluny Court has got to be one of the most charming, tucked away places in Bukit Timah away from the prying eyes of passers-by. The entire place is gorgeous, charming and has a really laid back feel to it. Not to mention, the stunning array of food choices here that include Asian (local), Thai and Western food -the menu is mind-bogglingly extensive! Also: they have great happy hour prices all day: $10 nett for house pour spirits, $8 for Kronenbourg 1664/Blanc as well as champagne. What was that ?-I can't hear you over the sound of chugging!

We ordered a Spaghetti Carbonara and a Chicken Pad Thai for $12.90 each, a Kronenbourg 1664 and a House Pour Rum & Coke for $8 and $10 respectively.

The carbonara is really creamy -a bit too thick and creamy for my liking, but bacon fans would enjoy this tremendously for the flavour of the bacon completely permeates this dish (yum!). There's a slightly smoky element to this dish that is complemented by the creaminess. I found it a bit much though -then again I cannot be said to be a fan of cream-based pasta.

The Pad Thai was surprisingly good! The noodles had a slightly springy/elastic quality which was delicious -there definitely was wok hei and the seasonings were done to perfection. I loved the crushed peanuts and chilli flakes on the side -not to mention a hint of lime to add the extra 'oomph'! I must say that the freshness of the chicken was remarkable. The meat had a fantastically tender quality that was neither dry nor flaky -top marks for this aspect.

Nothing like a cold glass of Kronenbourg 1664 to round off your day
Fans of Hoegaarden and Erdinger (as I am) will enjoy this beer as its incredibly smooth -the aftertaste also carries a hint of fruitiness in my opinion. Easy to drink and chill out with

The rum & coke tends to fluctuate a little between glasses -its sometimes stronger when different bartenders mix it.

We really enjoyed the whole atmosphere -for a sports bar, it had a charming quality to it amidst the liveliness. Definitely would recommend this place to anyone bringing someone on a date to somewhere different that isn't pretentious yet definitely classy. The atmosphere is nearly electric in this one and the service is pretty good too. The best part is that the prices are all nett so what you see is what you get! With such a stunning variety of dishes to try, we can't exactly recommend a particular dish given that we've only tried two, but it appears to us that the burgers seem quite popular, as well as the side dishes to share!

It was definitely worth the effort, given that it wasnt crowded on a weekend, food was great and loved the atmosphere. You are basically hidden behind walls yet the open concept keeps the place airy and alfresco.

It serves thai, indian and western food so theres something for everyone. A great place for gatherings i would say.

crispy white bait starters are a must try!

Chicken tikka was a good portion for the price and not too oily, a little dry but tasty nonetheless.

I know the green gooey stuff doesnt look at all appetizing but its one of my favourite indian dish! its made from pureed spinach and has feta cheese in them. Wonderful to find generous servings of cheese in it. Burger was on the smaller side and a little dry but acceptable.

Be warned though, no free water (not even tap!) but no service charge either.
