Special occasions are not the same without Bengawan Solo’s signature treats such as Kueh Lapis Sagu (rainbow layer cake), Ondeh Ondeh (coconut-coated glutinous rice balls filled with molten palm sugar), Kueh Lapis (spiced layer cake), and butter cakes and cookies. Located right at the entrance of the Arcade or next to Maki San is Bengawan solo. It gets pretty busy, as such I couldn't make a phone order. I had to personally come down and order a cake. They offer a wide variety of cakes and my personal favourite is their light strawberry cheesecake which for $27.80 is the cheapest Large sized cake that they sell. When ordering a cake, you can get a personalized message written on a chocolate block, which you will place on top of the cake. This large sized cake feeds 10 people as there are 10 super sweet and huge strawberries. The cake itself is very light, not too sweet, not gerlat and most of all, doesn't taste sinful!! Any girl on a diet would still be able to consume this cake!  continue reading

I bought a box of pandan chiffon cake from Bengawan Solo to bring to office. One box of the pandan cake costs around $12 if I remember correctly, which is quite expensive given that those no frills brand are selling them only at around $3 for a box. The pandan cake is quite dense and it is not as fluffy as those no frills brand. The cake is more moist as well, and in my opinion, it is also too sweet. I prefer my pandan chiffon cake to be more light tasting so that it is less heavy on the palette. Overall, I would say the taste does not really justify the premium price charged. continue reading

One of the more affordable places to go for snacks when other shops are closed for the day at the CBD area. This branch is pretty big, and lots of kueh varieties to choose from, except that the cashiers are foreigners, and they cant catch what the customers want at times.Tried the pineapple tart as one of my friends is a big fan of it and highly recommended it to me. However, it is not my thing. Its too buttery and the fillings are little. continue reading

Soon kueh from Bengawan Solo! (:It is hygenic because they place it on the tray with cling plastic therefore i think they are clean! And this soon kueh is filled with fillings like carrot, and normal filling inside. Just that the skin is abit thick, other than that, it is delicious and not really oily. I bought them to eat after lunch time. continue reading

It looks very beautiful right..It's my friend's birthday again,i really have many friends whose birthday is around this 2 months. But,that's also is a problem for me,to get FAT.The choco taste is quite nice, and the cake is also soft. But for me,im not really like the cream,so i will take some of it away before i eat.Overall,it is quite nice.It is nicer than the breadtalk one.But i more like the fruits cake from this shop. continue reading
