Introduction
A household name in Singapore, Bengawan Solo is synonymous with traditional cakes and kueh made using the highest quality ingredients and time-honoured methods of preparation. Special occasions are not the same without Bengawan Solo’s signature treats such as Kueh Lapis Sagu (rainbow layer cake), Ondeh Ondeh (coconut-coated glutinous rice balls filled with molten palm sugar), Kueh Lapis (spiced layer cake), and butter cakes and cookies. Knowing travellers often buy a box of these delectable cakes to enjoy on their plane journeys, or as tasty gifts for friends back home. continue reading

My family wanted to have some pandan cake for breakfast and I happened to pass by Bengawan Solo, so I got a whole pandan cake. As you can see it doesn't look as nice as that from Prima Deli's - colour is a bit dull; taste wise, Prima Deli's is more fluffly and soft, while Bengawan Solo's is more dense and moist. I would say that the pandan cake from Prima Deli is tastier, but this one is also average. continue reading

In my opinion, the coffee cake here is one of their best items. It is always the go-to birthday cake amongst my friends.$20.80 for Regular Size$30.80 for Large Size$2.70 for individual sliceI'm not a big fan of cakes & pastries, so I'm rather selective when it comes to this category of food. If you hate chiffon cakes slathered on with a thick layer of cream that leaves a layer of oil on your tongue like I do, this coffee cake is nothing like that. There is not much cream in this cake at all! The chiffon layers are thicker than most other cakes, and they are soft and light. The thin layer of cream between the chiffon has a deep coffee flavour, and doesn't leave any oil slick on my tongue. The amount of sweetness is just right, not extraordinarily sweet like other traditional cream-slathered cakes.Even when there are no birthday events, I find the cake delightful enough to takeaway a slice for a snack or dessert. The generous amount of walnut and chocolate goes very well with the deep coffee flavour. continue reading

This is the first time I'm trying the Bangawan log cake. This is a chocolate log cake. from appearance, I think it looked slightly plain, would be good if they have a bit more deco. Taste wise, I think it is good, not too sweet. Will definitely get it again next year.Other products which I liked from Bangawan are their pineapple tarts, kuah lapis, fruits cake. Definitely a good choice for all occasions. continue reading

I love the walnut cakes from Bangawan Solo. Bought one for my daughter's birthday.Just the right cake for a child, as it is not too creamy, or too sweet. To beautify the cake, has gotton my child to decorate it with the candle holders, and figurines. So we create our ownstyle cake. It'll be good if they have slightly larger size during non-CNY period. Had wanted to get one for my daughter's party in school, but no big size avail. continue reading

The ang ku kueh is really fresh and they don't keep them overnight, i think. I assume they don't keep it over night because i was transferred to compass point to work for one month and my shop is just right in front of their shop . Then, their ang ku kueh, just most of the finger food will be sold out and they never bring out anymore to sell and end up leaving a lot behind when it is evening time going to night time. They only have one type of filling which is the yellow "dou sa" which taste sweet . Nice. The thickness of the batter, should be thinner as i prefer thin one and rich filling. But most people would find this ang ku kueh nice .The steam cake is alright, the sugar could be given more as i love my cake with a lot of sugar . The cake texture is soft and fluffy. The only thing is , i suspect they used coloring :x. continue reading
