When it comes to Korean cuisine, I prefer the traditional or more homely dishes such as bibimbap, japchae instead of the big pot stew or BBQ. So I thought this casual Korean restaurant with outlets in many countries might be a good place to satisfy that occasion Korean food cravings. After all, it focuses on the "Bibimbap" and makes it flexible. Diners can customize their bibimbap by choosing the type of rice, topping and sauce. We had the Hotstone Bibimbap with Black Rice, Spicy Pork and Sesame sauce ($16) as well as the Bibimbap ($15) in the same combination but with Citron Soysauce. With a just a dollar difference, the Hotstone version would definitely be a better option if you like your food warm. As a highly versatile dish that can be paired with a variety of colorful toppings, I like this customized concept as it simplifies this Korean rice dish but preserves the texture and flavours. At least, we no longer have to stick to THAT sweet red sauce.

Ginseng Orange Salad was not available so we switched to Pan Fried Tofu and Stir Fry Kimchee Pork ($14) which were larger than shown on menu. The plain tofu complemented the salty stir fry but I thought why don't they just cut the tofu and stir-fry everything together?

The seasonal edition Gangnam Style Fried Chicken ($12) came with three different sauces -salt/sweet/spicy. The golden fried chicken that contained surprising bits of chilli and vegetables, were tender with crisp exterior. Since it was already very salted, the salt dip doesn't serve any purpose.

The Sweet Potato Mattang ($6) were similar to the Japanese Daigaku-Imo, not crunchy but soft and mushy. Topped with crispy rice crackers and walnuts, they were coated in just the right amount of honey but not exactly piping hot.

Food is overall quite good but the poor service were too glaring to go undetected. It's never a rule of courtesy to remove diner's plate without asking if they have finished with the food.

If you love healthy Korean food, bibigo is a place you can come. Kimchi fried rice is pretty good and tasty! Because it's in a hotpot, it's kept warm throughout the meal. Very shiok to enjoy each mouthful of piping hot rice. One thing i like about Korean food is their side dishes but don't expect too much from here. And i think can only refill once or twice only! But their kimchi is pretty good! For $16, i think it's quite reasonable priced for what i'm getting =)

I was hesitating between the different toppings because I was really spoilt for choice between char-grilled bulgogi, chicken teriyaki and grilled spicy pork. They all appeal to me! But I ended up getting the grilled spicy pork. (See picture above.)

I also went for the kohot sauce (i am not sure what it is but it sounded spicy so i went for it) and white rice.

The end result is this:

The whole meal is really filling with the soup and side dishes (nothing worth mentioning). I did not regret getting the grilled spicy pork as they were really nice and did not disappoint. Spicy.
Despite the outward appearance, with the exception of the meat, the sauce was not as spicy as I had assumed it to be. Still the end result looks appealing.

However I do think it is slightly on the high side because there wasn't a lot of meat given in the dish. Still, I had come back for the hot-stone bibimbap ($16). Looks delish when I saw the other patrons digging into their food!

But this is something i can accept. Its somewhat affordable. It costs me $17 and its more of a quick meal. The drink is not bad, quite refreshing. This bibimbap is cooked with black rice and it has spicy pork & egg with sesame & spicy sauce. Out of so many dishes, this is probably the one that i ate the most. The sides are not fantastic though.

Lunch time came over to Bibigo at Raffles City Shopping Centre. Reached at 12:15pm and i waited for 10 minutes which is reasonable waiting time. Ordered this mushroom beef rice set which consists of beef, mushroom, pea and rice with the special sauce! They served it on the hot stone pot which makes the meal tastier and it came along with different side dishes. And the amount of kimchi they gave is alot though it looks little because it is being stacked up. Ordered for tea too, genmai tea! tota

My orders for a gal outing! Squid & Pork Bulgogi - $24The squid & pork was pretty good with a nice char-grilled aroma. It will be even better (for me) if it was not so spicy. I got to eat this with a glass of ice water on standby lor.. Luckily, there were vegetables for us to wrap the bulgogi, which definitely helped to tone down the spiciness. Additional vegetables need to pay, however the waiter was kind enough to give us a few more servings free. No harm asking. HeheGinseng Chicken Soup - $22

Ginseng Chicken Soup - $22
Hmm, this was rather disappointing. The soup was not flavorful enough and the chicken was a tad dry. I was expecting similar quality like the one I had in Korea since this place seems quite authentic.

Spicy Rice Cake - $14

I quite like the dish because I like anything that is starchy & sticky, erm like mochi? Beside the rice cake, that were also sweet potato, which was quite hard to differentiate from the rice cake since they were all about the same size covered with the red sauce. We were having a "hard" time fishing for the sweet potato!

I ordered a 'Jangjorim Bibimbap' from their new menu. It is actually a hot stone white rice with braised pork in soy sauce, fried egg, mushroom and zucchini served with Jangjorim sauce on the side. I asked whether i can change the rice to other types but it is not possible. I had fun mixing the the sauce with all the ingredients inside the hot stone. It was really tasty as the individual pork, mushroom and zucchini ingredients were very well marinated. I enjoyed it very much.

There are many Korean restaurants in Singapore now but I have not really tried them. For a Korean restaurant, the only Korean I saw was a manager. The wait staff were mainly Filipinos so they could not really provide me with a whole lot of information other than what was on the menu. The Char-grilled Bulgogi ($22) looked really appetising so we ordered that, along with a side order of rice. The meat was lean and the marinates were tasty. Could go for seconds.

Next, we had the famous Ginseng chicken soup ($22). This dish is apparently quite popular, and can sometimes be sold out early in the day. I found this dish unique as it was stuffed with glutinous rice. It can get a bit messy when you are trying to slice the chicken and the rice just spills out. The broth was tasty, and the whole dish is very satisfying.

My favourite is the Hot Stone Bibimbap ($16). There is a selection of grains you can go for, and in my opinion, everyone should choose the black rice. It is sticky, but not cloying, and the grains have so much flavour and are plump and chewy. You really need to try it to find out. Mixed with the sauce and the vegetables, it was so delicious and yet so healthy (no fried or oily stuff) that you really have t hand it to the Koreans.

I came to this restaurant when it first opened a couple of months back. I love my Korean food and bibimbap is one of them on the list. The concept is healthy eating, my friend ordered a hot stone bibimbap each, with my condiments being non-spicy. We also ordered fried zucchini, something like tempura chicken and it was quite oily, but the paired sauce made it so yummy we polished the whole plate.it is a healthy choice.

The only squabble that I have is the slow moving queue. That is, of course, due to the limited spaces that they have. Of course you can’t expect to finish your meal here like how you can just chow down a bowl of fish ball noodles. The food is pretty nice and tasty if you mix the right sauces together. I personally, will avoid the spicy sauce as it’s just too funky for me. A nice hot and simple soup makes up for a hearty healthy meal.
