With more than 22 'official' concoctions on the menu, made from a wide array of different flavoured shaved ices and toppings such as dried fruit, almond flakes and chocolate chips, it is simply a shaved ice wonderland here at Bing Bian. Not only that, all the ingredients used here are homemade and self-made in the Bing Bian kitchen itself, ensuring quality and consistency.

Prices are also extremely affordable with both the Yu Yuan and Shaved Ices going for $4.90 each and hot desserts like the Cheng Tng, Tau Suan with Fritters, Red Bean Soup and Tau Huey ranging between $1.70 - $2.50! Have I also mentioned that all the desserts here are made in-house?

Hot favourites include the Calamansi Ice Set (pictured left) which has that lovely citrus burst of fresh calamansi, chewiness and sweetness from the dried cranberries with some jelly and almond flakes as toppings. Simply refreshing and absolutely necessary in such a humid weathered country like ours.

And if you have been to Jiufen in Taiwan, then you would have definitely tried the famous Yu Yuan there! Bing Bian's version gives it a run for its money and if you have not had the chance to try the original, this comes pretty close. With more than 6 different flavoured shaved ices such as Soya, Peanut, Sesame, Taro and even Green Tea, these Yu Yuan are guaranteed to cater to all taste buds. The Yu Yuan balls made from sweet potato and taro are QQ in texture and a joy to chew without being too sweet.

As the owners of Bing Bian 冰变 had started their business with the goal of delivering 'happiness in a bowl' to their customers, I have to say that they had certainly achieved it for me. So make a trip down to Bing Bian soon for a sweet treat of shaved ice or to reminisce about Taiwan with some Yu Yuan.

Ordered Soya shaved ice with almond flakes and jelly. The roasted almond flakes was fresh and crunchy together with cold icy sweet chewy jelly , which I initially thought it was an odd combination but eventually turned out ok. I was fascinated by the choices of toppings they have, I want them all!!

Tried the shaved mango ice with almond. Those small round balls will burst when you bite into them and mango flavour will pour out! The portion of chopped mango is generous and sweet and juicy! The bits of almond flakes (not sure if they toasted it) adds a nice textural dimension to the dessert and gives it a lovely burst of warm mellowness among the sweetness. Very tasty!

This is the soya shave ice dessert from Bing Bian. Tried their warm beancurd before so this time round I decided to try the cold dessert at the branch here. The soya shave ice comes with red bean, mini pearls and yu yuan toppings. The soya shave ice doesn't taste solid enough, doesn't really have the soya flavor infused in it. Texture is not as nice too. Don't know it is because of the flavor I order, guess I will try the other flavors next time. The yu yuan is still the bomb though, nice and ch

What make this shop special is that their shave ice has got different flavors in it and it taste really good with it thick flavor. The texture of the shave us is somewhere in between sorbet and ice cream.

I chose to have the taro ice which comes with the yam and sweet potato chewy kind of topping. I even top up to have extra of these and I am glad I did so because it is the best I have tried (in Singapore)! For $4.90 you get yourself a big bowl of goodies, very worth it for sure. The shop owner (whom I suspect is the boss) is very friendly and chatty.

For sure I will be back for more of these goodies!

Saw this newly opened (?) dessert shop and decided to give it a try. There were many flavours of ice and toppings to choose from, and I chose to have the green tea flavoured one with red beans, jellies, and yuyuan (chewy sweet potato and yam balls). This combination would hardly go wrong and indeed, it tasted good on a hot day. Would be great if the serving was larger.
