In my opinion, its overpriced!Did a takeaway today of Mutton biryani ($10.00) and chicken biryani ($8.00). Measly portion of mutton, 2 tiny pieces with tons of fat, gamey taste. Looked completely unappetizing.Portion of chicken, single drumstick that was tiny and what looked like half eaten breast piece, hardly any flesh.Overabundance of rice to disguise the lack of meat, extremely heavy on the cumin which gave a unpleasant chilli-heat aftertaste that I couldn't shake with every spoonful.I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. It displays a banner outside boasting something to the effect of its Google Reviews and Number #1 on search engines when you search for best biryani.I also find the restaurant lighting was a little dark and the place require some good cleaning up.If you must have your biryani fix, go to Islamic instead which gives you good portions and consistently above average standards of food. continue reading

Heard about this famous dum biryani stall from a friend. I was around the area and decided to try it out. I order the chicken dum biryani and a lime juice. The lime juice was disappointing and was not nice. One thing i like about biryani is the crispy papadums which taste good. The chicken biryani rice was fragrant but you need to be aware of the cloves and whole black pepper in the rice, better to pick it out of the rice. continue reading

Had the mutton biryani as people have popularised it here. However, it wasn't up to standard or expectations. You can't see the meat till you dig around, so the meat is buried deep in the rice. The rice I must say, is nicely cooked, separate and al dente, and is long grain basmati. It's nicely spiced. They claim not to use ghee but whatever other oil they're using seems to make me a bit sick. Maybe ghee would have been better? It's not less oily than ghee at all. It was so oily I had to wipe my mouth half way or risk having oil run down my chin. The worst thing about this mutton biryani is the fact that there are lots and lots of little bones that have broken off the mutton and is mixed into the rice. So everytime you chew on a mounthful of rice, you have to chew delicately and carefully in case you chew on some bone fragments which is really painful on the teeth and gums! This really annoyed me as I spent al ot of time using my tongue to pick out and spit out bone fragments! This dish cost $9! At Tekka Market, the mutton biryani only cost $6 to $7!The lime juice which is nothing special, cost $2 a glass. Not really recommended for the mutton biryani due to the bone fragment issue and the cost. The place doesn't look very clean or inviting either. The shop is mostly dark and the cook looked really disheveled and grubby! There is no menu here either so you don't know the prices till after you've eaten. I would not have gotten the mutton if I knew it cost $9 for a plate of bone fragments! continue reading

Just at the fringes of Little India is a nice Indian shop that sells delicious and healthy bryani! I ordered a plate of mutton dum bryani from Bismillah Biryani. They cook the basmati rice without using oil or ghee but yet there is a strong and tasty fragrance to it. The mutton is also quite yummy, not too tough but still chewy. However there is this incredibly spicy taste to the rice, however I cannot locate the source as there is no evidence of chilli at all. This place is a definite must-go if you like hot spicy tasty biryani! continue reading
