I know that Bushells isn't exactly the poster-child for the desserts scene in Singapore. Located at the corner (and perhaps away from the chaotic and noisy nightlife) of Clarke Quay, it's pretty much a sweet place to sit back with friends. My friend and I didn't have dinner here and even though I don't normally do reviews for places when I don't eat their signature mains/what's good there, this one deserves an extraordinary mention. We shared the cheesecake ($9.50... Close to $11 after ++!), I believe it's a chocolate chip cheesecake. Honestly it's a really huuuuuge slice and I could never finish it alone without tiring of the richness. The cake is honestly one of the best cheesecakes I've ever eaten (ignoring the humongous slice that no one I know can polish off by themselves). The cheesecake is rich, smooth and every bit as decadent as it looks. The chocolate chips are bitter and semi-sweet, giving a nice bitter-ish finish to the otherwise cloying cake. The base is crumbled cookie bits (probably oreo, we're thinking?) Delicious. It's a perfect cake and it's ideal for sharing.Bushells is furnished with lots of stone and wood, giving off a very Mediterranean feel more than its Australian influences evident in its menu. The service is good and the prices are steep (mains are about $30-40 per plate), but I'm sure its worth it. This cheesecake speaks volumes.I doubt reservations are required though, it was pretty quiet even at around 8ish on a Wednesday evening. The place is also quite big, great for gatherings. continue reading
