Typical Pub fare. The beef burger is tasty but the burger bread buns are not as well done as they should be. Food is so-so, however the size overall portions are quite ok. The environment is nice and chilled by the beach.Find an empty bench by the sandy beach, kick back with a bottle of beer and have some fish & chips.

Café del Mar for a night out with the girlfriends! I ordered the Linguine Pescatora which is a fantastic pasta served with a generous portion of seafood over the yummy linguine. There are a lot of condiments too! Tender and tasty squid rings, juicy and fresh prawns amongst the fresh shellfish. It is really good! The sauce was very well prepared, providing a flavour which complemented the entire plate of pasta perfectly. Great food!

Although it is fried fish fingers but it is not very oily. You wouldn't feel sick after eating it. The fries are served hot unlike other resturant where they serve cold fries. It taste best with chilli sauce as i'm a chilli lover. This is a place where you can relax yourself with friends, enjoying the sand, beach and food at the same time.

Had a wicked time at Cafe del mar with OpenRicers. Check out the video of OpenRice Calvintimo downing a quick fuck. Anyway I had a mojito and it's totally refreshing. More about the food. Not sure if you are aware of it but hey, Cafe Del Mar serves lip-smacking food besides a unique range of cocktails. My top 3 picks have to be Classic Caesar Salad, Penne Carbonara and Baked Pacific Dory!!! I think caesar salads are still very tasty though, and underappreciated! Love the light and tangy flavor

I think caesar salads are still very tasty though, and underappreciated! Love the light and tangy flavor. Cafe Del Mar's version of this staple salad was just delicious with a simple tasty dressing, bacon bits, toasted cubed croutons and romaine lettuce.

As for the Penne Carbonara? I'm lost for words. Once I savoured this simple but highly satiating penne carbonara, I can't stop. As a true pasta fan, I loveeee rich creamy stuff like this that makes a rich, tasty supper! I could so imagine myself taking ENDLESS servings of this. Cafe Del Mar presented a really comforting version of the carbonara served piping hot tossed with extra Parmesan cheese and fresh prawns. Sigh. Anyway who doesn't love carbonara? Nothing can go wrong with this dish that's on virtually everyone's (everyone I know at least) list of comfort food. N-I-C-E

Another fav was the Baked Pacific Dory. Served with simple mashed potatoes and beans, alfalfa sprouts and thick, tasty butter sauce, the freshness of the fish really stood out! Am impressed by the remarkable flavor and texture of the fish

I'm quite impressed by the variety of dishes on the menu.

During this ORTU, we were pampered with 8 of their dishes that were specially selected by Kenath Low.

My favourites were the Penne Carbonara & Baked Pacific Dory.

Penne Carbonara - The salty bacon went well with the cream sauce. It was savoury, yet it wasn't "jelak" (rich).

Baked Pacific Dory - It doesn't have that fishy smell that some fish dishes have. Very fragrant due to the infused garlic butter. The dory is moist and tender. The confit cherry tomatoes & wasabi mashed are to die for!

Despite having to travel to an island off Singapore, it was worth every bite during dinner. Thank you for having me at ORTU! ^_^

The interior decor of the bungalow gives it a more formal dining area where you can host your guests to a feast or have a few games of pool. This place is sure to take your mind of your busy schedule and it’s a great place to have a meal or just indulge over drink at the bar.

If you like to soak in the sun or have a drink by the pool, do check out their outdoor area. It is nicely surrounded by palm trees to give this place a perfect feel of your little haven where you can get to indulge in their jacuzzis. Of course, how can you not have relaxing Cafe del Mar chill out music at the background to give you the full complete and perfect experience of a cafe by the sea?

Classic Caesar Salad ($12) - This traditional salad dish is the most popular item among diners. I love how the texture and taste of the Caesar dressing, bacon, croutons, romaine lettuce and sliced Parmesan cheese compliment such other so well. This got to be one of the best Caesar salad I’ve ever eaten and I would definitely come back for more! (The salad is also available with toppings of chicken or prawns at an additional $2 each.)

Bruschetta 1/2 dozen ($6) - Another classic, this traditional Italian dish was also laid on the dining table to work out our palate. Although it may look simple, the tomatoes, English parsley and garlic are serve on the crispy French toast and topped with cheese. This is a fantastic finger food to have it with some good o’ beer and chill out by the pool!

Linguine Pescatora ($20) - This fantastic pasta dish is served with a generous ragout of seafood over the linguine. Filled with tender squid rings, juicy prawns amongst the fresh and succulent shellfish, any seafood lovers definitely got to try this. The sauce base was marvellously prepared using plums, tomatoes garlic, olive oil and basil leaves giving it a sophisticated yet perfect flavour which complements the entire dish perfectly. I feel that the use of plums in a pasta sauce is quite a bold move and it will be an acquired taste for some.

Penne Carbonara ($16) - A classic Italian pasta and it’s a top pick for many who loves pasta with a creamy base sauce. The sauce made with eggs, cheese, olive oil and bacon sure drove all of us over the moon and praising this is one of the best Carbonara we have ever ate. The sauce isn’t too salty or thick and I love its smooth, creamy texture and the taste ain’t overwhelming at all. Overall, this is a good balance of the classic Italian and modern American way of preparing the Carbonara.

Baked Pacific Dory ($24) - The picture spoke a thousand words. Where else can you find such a beautiful baked golden brown Pacific Dory in its most pristine form? This heavenly creation is of the Chef’s Specialty, which he focuses a lot on the texture of the dory fish. Carefully baked to perfection and infused with the flavour of garlic butter, this dish will definitely hit the soft spots of many out there as it melts in your mouth. The baked dory fillet served with vegetable legume, confit cherry tomatoes and wasabi mashed. This dish is a must try whenever you visit Cafe del Mar!

Succulent Lamb Chops ($32) - These prime lamb racks are marinated and grilled to to perfection according to your preferred doneness. Do not underestimate these succulent pieces of lamb racks as the mint gravy served with it will give you a kick up your palate. It is served with gratin potatoes and ratatouille which will sure satisfy your appetite with it. I find that the mint gravy pretty interesting as it introduces new flavours to the lamb chops so to cover up the unwanted taste of the lamb.

Chocolate Fondue ($20) (Serves 2-4) - What else can you ask for after a meal but a luscious warm pot of melted dark chocolate with a feast of fruits and sweets? Served with marshmallows, rock melon, strawberries, kiwi, green apples, grapes and bananas, these lovely treats will guarantee to help you wash down the delicious meal which you just had. I personally find the taste of the green apples kind of weird as it’s being soaked in salt water, giving it a strong unfriendly salty taste even if I coat it thickly with the dark chocolate. (Additional of the above items can be added at $4 each)

Apple Crumble ($10) - A classic home-made dessert prepared with granny smith apples and served your preferred scoop of ice-cream. There are choices of vanilla, chocolate and strawberry flavoured ice-cream to go with the apple crumble. However, I wasn’t too interested in the apple crumble as the outer crust was very thick and granny smith apples were a tad too little in the middle of it. Half of the time, I was eating the vanilla ice-cream with the crumble which breaks into fine bits too easily.

So here goes the journey being late because of the tram taking forever, I arrived just a wee bit late to try the appetizer - the bruschetta. I was seated at the far end of the table, with the manager and OR staff while the other table is occupied with the other chosen OR reviewers. Kenath the manager was very friendly, I was overwhelmed! So cheers to ya, Mr Kenath!

The other OR staff was as equal as friendly, we could converse at almost anything.

Anyhow, back to the bruschetta, diced tomato cubes and melted cheese was just satisfactory, a good opening. It was almost tasteless so it doesn't overpower or cover the tastebuds of my tongue to prepare the main courses that we're going to dig in! While so, Kenath ordered me a mango smoothiewhich was thick enough to taste the real mango but not as thick until I was feeling full. It was a good sweet match for the hot weather out and the food we're about to try!

Next came along the tomato based seafood pasta. Their seafood selection in a portion with the size is worth for it's price (~$20 there) with large shrimps, shell and a round of big scallop piece! It was light, not tangy although it was just a bit bland for me - I'm used to eat a more saltier taste so this tastes a bit bland. But overall it should be just right!
Carbonara based penne with bacon/ham bits was a winner compared to the tomato though!
The cream was smooth and taste just right, but the bacon balanced the taste being it very salty - I really enjoyed it much, eating the bits of it! What I like as well about their pasta is that it's just right when they take it out from the boiling water. The pasta's still hard enough to enjoy a couple of chews before going much down the drain!

CHAMPION OF THE NIGHT, AS I WAS SAYING, is the pacific dory fillet with the best mashed potatoes ever tasted: as smooth and creamy like ice cream. This part is also their special point, mashed potato with mix of cheese and mashing it like mad to make this mash potato so soft.
This was a recommendation from Mr Manager himself, and this is a new menu that everyone ought to try when visiting this cafe. The fish, softly cooked with the spices which makes a little layer of crisp on the outside but soft, smooth and all-beautiful white meat inside, and the sauce when cooked has been absorbed, so even though the meat looks white untouched by any sauce, it has a hint of sweet taste within each bite. Fresh cherry tomatoes that gave the hard sour punch needs to be eaten in a small bite or the flavor of the fish can't be tasted. I had a full share for this, no one was finishing it so I taken every last bit of it and scrape off the potato as clean as possible!

The last main course which is the lamb dish has only a slight smell of the lamb but the sauce which quite tasted like BBQ sauce had also been absorbed. Succulent and tender meat at the first bite! It really is soft and the portion is just nice; easy to be eaten and hold as well.Again, mash potato as the side dish there! There's a hidden gem underneath the lamb chop, it's like a flat cheese croissant kind (I'm not sure how to describe) and it's good to be eaten by itself!

Finally, desserts to close which I was looking forward to the cafe has to offer. First was the apple crumble with a scoop of ice cream - the usual hot and cold combination! The apple crumble is just a pass, pretty normal compared to other apple crumbles. There's not much of a difference...it's just plainly right. However, the chocolate fondue set is an absolute worth for your wallet! Fondue is dark chocolate, which compliments bitter and sweet marshmallows, kiwi, strawberries, etc. fruits on the platter. And an additional fruit would only be charged at $1. It has a great array of fresh fruits and with the thick chocolate to accompany, it's the best way to end the big feast! Dark chocolate with sweets together is just right!

A round of drinks as the final closing was given, spiced up by the cafe's own bartender who gave an explanation to each drink. Mine was a new mix, which I quite forgot the name but it has something to do with lemon fizz, and as a non-drinker, I could finish 3/4 before getting too hot inside, which I hate for now because we're not eating in a cold cold place!

For the menu price which had undergo a big re-adjustment to be more affordable and with the ambiance, live DJ spinning on weekends, this place is hip to be seen and be in.

Photos were taken at night hence the hard flash - not very flattering! Hehehe

Thanks again to manager Kenath Low for giving a special treat and kindly bear with my stupid student pep talks and the laudable OR staff! Anyone must be damn weird in not commenting and joining ORTU. So therefore I suggest you all to join!
