This Carrot Cake stall in Chomp Chomp Food Centre is easy to recognize. The name of the shop is essentially just called "Carrot Cake 菜頭粿", the name of the dish it serves. In addition, this stall is located at the right most corner of the entrance. With its distinctive white signboard (compared to the other stalls with colourful signboard, this stall's signboard stands out like a thorn among the roses. It would hard to miss this stall. Unlike the name of the dish, Carrot Cake 菜頭粿 neither uses any carrot nor does it looks or taste like a cake. Instead, Carrot Cake is essentially steamed radish mixed with flour, usually fried with garlic, preserved radish (chye poh) and egg, and then garnished with spring onions. In Singapore, the Carrot Cake comes in two variety; either white or black. The difference between them is that for the latter, sweet black sauce is added. Carrot Cake 菜頭粿 sells fried White or Black Carrot Cake and Oyster Omelette. It has been said that this stall is more well known for its fried White Carrot Cake and Oyster Omelette.Black Carrot Cake $5We ordered a plate of Black Carrot Cake $5. Their Carrot Cakes come in either $3, $4 or $5. The food was served to us 20 minutes after we place our orders. Black Carrot Cake $5Black Carrot Cake $5As the saying goes, don't judge a book by its cover. The appearance of the Black Carrot Cake does not justify the taste. Prawns was fried together with the Black Carrot Cake. The Black Carrot Cake was quite good and well fried. Each piece of carrot cake was well coated with flavour. They were fragrant and had the right sweetness level. In addition, there were plenty of chye poh (salty), such that each bite would stimulate your sense as the saltiness and sweetness tease your taste bud.Other than being sweeter, the Black Carrot Cake is normally not as crispy as the White Carrot Cake due to the addition of the black sauce.Carrot Cake 菜頭粿 (Chomp Chomp Food Centre)#01-36 Chomp Chomp Food Centre20 Kensington Park Road, SerangoonSingapore 557269Opening Hours: Daily 530 pm to 12 midnight Closed on alternate TuesdayView FoodieFC's Singapore Food Map in a larger mapRead More

At $5, the portion of this white carrot cake is reasonable and it is also reasonably priced. The white carrot is soft and moist and slightly oily. The proportion of the eggs and carrot is just right and it goes well together. It is not a must try though as there is nothing special about it. Read More

Carrot cake is a really delicious and fragrant singaporean dish that most if not all hawker centres would have at one of their stalls. This carrot cake at Chomp Chomp is really not too bad and it is definitely fragrant and can be smelled in the air when one is miles away. Love the amount of fried egg that the cook used and the chilli is soooooo good! The black version is not too bad too!Read More

This is the traditional style/ singaporean style of fried carrot cake unlike the Hong Kong style fried carrot cake. I still prefer this type of fried carrot cake compared to Hong Kong style. There are two types of fried carrot cake- either fried it with black sauce or no black thick sauce. I've ordered the white version without black sauce. Saltness level is just nice for me and it's not oily. Good "wok hei" makes the carrot cake and eggs more fragrant too. Read More

I love eating carrot cakes, especially the white carrot cakes since it is where I can taste more of the eggs and the carrot cake itself. I ordered one plate of white carrot cake from this stall and my stomach is rumbling as I was queueing and waiting as I could smell the rich smell of carrot cake as the uncle is frying it. This stall also add prawns to the carrot cake which is an interesting twist to the dish. The prawns are very qq and fresh. As for the carrot cake, it is soft and yet not too lumpy and it is nicely coated with egg. Not too salty as well and it taste great on its own without chilli. Read More

I simply love carrot cakes, I tried the carrot here and I find it is one of the best I have eaten. There offer two kinds of carrot cakes, the white ones and the black ones. I tried their black carrot cake this time. One thing I love about their carrot cake is that the pieces are very chewy. They added a lot of eggs as well. The black sauce really makes the carrot cake taste so sweet. as a whole it is really tasty and delicious!Read More

I seldom go to Chomp Chomp Food Centre cos it's not very convenient, small and crowded. However, The food there is wonderful! So I felt like a child in a foodie's playground :)This Carrot Cake stall is well reviewed by other Openricers and I can see why.I like my carrot cake white cos I don't believe in dousing my food with too much sauce so that the original flavours are hidden. I found the carrot cake here well-flavoured, not soggy and the omlette cooked till it's just right. Will come back for more Read More

i totally love the carrot cake from chomp chomp. it is very fragrant. i normally order mine in white cos like this i can taste the actual goodness of the carrot cake. This one is really good. totally tasty. You can see from the queue how good it is. The carrot cake is very chewy and every piece has its flavor. I love the way the egg blend with the carrot cake. I give them two thumbs up!Read More

I patronized this stall as it was the first stall I spotted. I ordered and came back for it after 10 minutes. When I came back for it, it was still not yet ready so I chance upon how the Uncle cooked the carrot cake. Then I saw the Uncle added in prawns in the center of the frying pan. In my mind, "wow not bad argh, this stall add prawns - so special!" Not only the Uncle is generous with the prawns, he is generous with the egg too!I like my carrot cake with lots of egg and dark sauce; black black and this stall with prawn will definitely be the most special Carrot Cake stall I have in mind! The out of the norm Carrot Cake stall.Read More

This stall like many others served black and white fried carrot cake. But the owner can do both versions equally good! We would often get into a debate whether to order the white or black version lol ... The white version usually has a higher vote This would be a review on it's black version - simply carrot cake adding black, sweet sauce to it :)I was a little disappointed when I found out that the carrot cake was being outsourced and they didn't self-made it. But nevertheless, one would not mind at all :) It would still depend on the condiments and skills of individual to make a superb fried carrot cake! Even if you give me the same ingredients, I would not be able to chalk up one-tenth of it's taste ;pThe carrot cake is fried with a crispy outer layer and yet soft inside. A savory flavor also arises from the secret recipe fish sauce that they used :) Oh, we love it's wok hei taste too!Read More

As you walk into Chomp Chomp Food Centre, the first stall on the far right is always busy and that is where you can find what I feel is one of the best Carrot Cake stalls in Singapore.I really like the manner in which the dish is prepared - it is cooked just right and the ingredients add great flavour to it. The prawns are individually fried and added. You can have your carrot cake black or white! The most important part is how the dish is served. The carrot cake is not served as separate fried layers piled on top of one another.Instead, it is spread out on the plate or wrapper. That really makes a difference to the taste. Another plus point to this stall is the Assistant, who is really a Wonder woman. She takes orders and also takes note of all requests, collects money, serves customers at the centre and packs the take aways as well. On a busy evening she can be seen multi tasking with ease and I feel she is a great asset to the stall. I like the carrot cake here so much that I will not settle for any other stall when this one is closed!Read More
