They had a promotion on tip-it.com.sg, it was $10 pricing for $20 value worth of food at Chiang Mai Palace. I had never thought of dining here before but the marketing really captured my eye, so I purchased 2 vouchers($40 spending value).Saturday night saw me over at Chiang Mai Palace, it was pretty dead there at Far East Square unlike weekdays office hours. It was just my boyfriend and I, and another table with 3 Caucasian girls to the whole restaurant. Nevertheless, the young thai waitress was polite and the food service was efficient. We ordered a beef green curry, it was our first time trying beef curry, usually it'd be always chicken or sometimes seafood. We also ordered a hot plate black pepper squid, stir-fried seafood glass noodles, red ruby dessert and a glass of lemon grass drink.Beef green curry was exceptionally good. The curry fragrant was deep and delicious. Curry gravy wasn't oily nor too sweet and the best part was the very generous portion of its main ingredient, sliced beef. Black pepper squid came fine, acceptably ordinary in its sizzling hot plate. The stir-fried seafood glass noodles was a mistake though as it was dry and tasted like tze char economic bee hoon, the seafood ingredients also contained mostly squid and two miserable prawns, which made us feel lousier because we already had a black pepper squid dish. To add to the fact that the squid texture wasn't exactly fresh to begin with, but a little rubbery and needed strength to chew. Too much of them made our teeth hurt. The red ruby dessert was delightful and just nice, the water chestnut rubies were juicy and crunchy, oh we did request for less sugar. Lastly, the lemon grass was a combination of syrup lemon grass and iced water, it came normal like anywhere else that do serve lemon grass drink.Summing up, I'd say it was acceptable for $20 to have all above stated, but I'd simply think twice if I had to pay $40. Because what we pay is what we get right? continue reading
